But she always gave essay tests so that there was something she could at least take 1 point off of. Then she gave us an all multiple choice exam and we got excited that someone could make a 100. It turned out that for one of the questions, there was no correct answer. Her justification was that if you had come up to her desk and said they were all wrong, she would have told you to mark E on the answer sheet.

When I had them in college, for trick questions in which the correct answer was still a possible answer, the results indicated that more students got the answer right by not having a clue and guessing than by actually figuring out the trick. In other words, it just made smart students get a worse grade.
One time I actually caught the trick to a multiple choice problem, checked with a TA during the exam, and was told to ignore the trick. Then I got the problem wrong.
