The only reason the absolute value is used in that situation is on variables to indicate that the root is the primary square root, which must be positive.

        I just did a ***** job of explaining that, but I think I might have gotten my point across.

        woman=money*time
        time=money
        woman=(money)^2
        etc.

        |a| = √(a^2)
        whereas it is correct to say a=(√a)^2

        in the former, a negative a would become positive after squaring, and then the square root makes it undefined by positive or negative
        in the latter, a negative a would be converted to an imaginary number, and then squared would return it to its correct negative state
