It takes the raptor (25 m/s)/(4 m/s^2) = 6.25 seconds to get to that speed, so you can ignore the max if it takes the raptor longer than 6.25 seconds to catch you. You set the equations equal to each other. 40m + 6 m/s = (1/2)4m/s^2. The 1/2 is because the raptor is accelerating. You move everything to one side and simplify, so 2t^2 + 6t + 40 = 0. Factor or use the quadratic equation and you get t = 6.22 seconds. Thats how long it takes the raptor to catch you. 6.22s X 6 m/s = 37m with sig figs. Thats the right way anyway.
