- arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -13/+70I must say, on behalf of all Americans, I apologize for our stupid, uneducated people.
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+53there are stupid people everywhere
especially since they decided to interview people who looked like dumbass hicks and bums - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41Ah yes, another random interview bit where they interview 1000 people and pick out 10 idiots. I'm sure stupid people don't exist anywhere else in the world.
- dankoleary, on 10/12/2007, -8/+42Half the people they interviewed were hobos. America, F$#7 Yeah!
- jorisb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34Then how did you end up posting here?
- Drew7, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35I can understand how this could be funny to people down there, but even still, it is an unfair depiction of actual American feelings about the world. Americans are, for the better part, nice people, who just want to get along with all the other countries. The only things that frustrate that are Islamic terrorists and an American president who misleads his own people on a daily basis.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -11/+38The video itself is just stupid. They interview hundreds of people, probably in a low-educated area, and then edit to show only the ones who are retarded, how clever. Notice the map only had a few pins on it as most people probably told them that we shouldn't invade anyone, but that wouldn't make for good TV. Then they use the end result to send the message "Americans are all stupid!!"
Pathetic. And, reading the comments on Youtube lends great irony:
"OHH MY GOD.AMERICANS YOU NEED TO READ A FEW GEO BOOKS (LOT), IS IMPRESSIVE THE LEVEL OF IGNORANCE ...DONT BE SO GEOGRAPHYCALY STUPIDS , THATS WHY YOUR "LEADERS" REPUBLICANS OR DEMOCRATAS LIE YOU ABOUT EVERYTHING, AND FOLLOW INVADING COUNTRYES , KEEP THAT WAY AND SOON YOU WILL FIND USA IN THE MUD .. I BELIEVE THE FUKING TV SHOWS AND HOLLYWOOD ARE REPSONSIVE OF THIS *****.." - resqboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26i didnt know north korea was so big!
- naner, on 10/12/2007, -9/+26Maybe so... but that doesn't excuse our incredibly poor sense of geography.
- itsmekirby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17"DONT BE SO GEOGRAPHYCALY STUPIDS" is a great one. I'll use that next time.
- logicmethod, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21This is not only an old video, but a forced expression of anti-American sentiment under the implied-yet-not-implied guise of a random poll of American citizens. Yes, our country and it's leadership has made some terrible decisions. So has every other country. People have died for this country, and I call it home. It breaks my heart to see a video entitled "Stupid Americans". Some people in the world are stupid--please stop leveraging that fact to insult my country.
- arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17And we care... Why?
- ejaywillie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19If it wasn't for AMERICA, there would be no digg.com for you to be an retard on.
- Blarbo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14People judging America by this show are as ignorant as those people they interviewed.
- bertwagner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I know lots of Americans that are terrible at geography...but come on, mistaking Australia as France and Iran? These are definitely the most stupid people out of a very large group surveyed.
- kliewer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13You people should calm down. It's only a comedy show. I'm American and I thought it was hilarious.
- chair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yes it's labeled. If the video wasn't compressed so much you'd be able to clearly see that. If it wasn't labeled do you think any of them would be able to find the countries?
That's the whole joke. Australia is the most easily recognisable country in the world, anybody with any knowledge of geography should be able to tell something was wrong. And I'm sure there were people that realised, but they would have been cut out because that's not funny :) - Spanca, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12It's a comedy show, not a news or current affairs show. Where would the humor be in showing all the people that realized they were putting stickers on Australia?
- noluckmurphy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Admit it guys and gals...we're a nation of slaptards.
gg world. - colonelmustard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I agree, man. Those YouTube comments are harsh.
- chair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7In one of they're old shows they had a segment called This Person Votes. They interviewed Australians about who the were going to vote for and why, trust me they got some pretty stupid (and funny) answers.
The video isn't intended to be anti-American, it's from a comedy show. The Chaser in general is far more critical of the Australian government and media. - TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Maybe so... but that doesn't excuse our incredibly poor sense of geography.
no child left behind - waddling, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11This is why Canadians love pissing off Americans, we take our name off the maps and they'll never find us!
- kendawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The comments by that guy at the end were priceless.
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7man, these people are the ones they interviewed that lived on the street. americans stupid, digg was american made! yea they only quoted only about the ones that didnt know anything, and edited the smart people.
- farrellj, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I have dual US/Canadian Citizenship...but many Americans are so ignorant of things outside their country...I don't mean that they are stupid, but that they just take no interest in things outside of the US.
But I can't help pointing people to Rick Mercer's famous "Talking to Americans":

ttyl - lcarsdeveloper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Let me guess...The Chaser? Sounds like something they did a few years ago...
*clicks link*
Oh look, Chaser NoNstop News Network (CNNNN).
Can I just save everyone the trouble and submit every single clip available of this show?
http://www.abc.net.au/cnnnn/video/
http://www.abc.net.au/vod/default.htm (Click "The Chaser's War on Everything").
These were all listed under the blanket story of 'Hilarious Australian TV Show' several weeks back. Do we need every single clip to be submitted too? - hongy_r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8to be honest, americans are (mostly unfairly) labeled as stupid and arrogant. i am sure that most americans are just like most australians, but some of the stories that you read in the news make you think "what the hell are they doing over there?!"
- Scooley01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That was nice of them to only show the stupid people. Any poll could show that result if you cut it up like that, there's no way they ONLY interviewed those people.
But anyone else find it odd that everyone picked Australia as Iran/NK? Or was it labelled as that to throw some idiots off? - shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5i don't think whoever wrote that could say english was their first language...
but to be fair while i did see one hobo in there (he was pretty funny) most of them didn't *look* stupid...
oh and this is old... really old... it's from CNNNN (the guys from this show do chasers war on everything now) - reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm sure everybody in Australia is smart and knows everything about geography.
Seriously though, I'm a foreign student here in the US and when I mention certain countries quite a few people go "huh? where/what is that country?" I talked to this American guy once who helps international students in settling into American culture, and he told me that lots of Americans are oblivious to what's going on in the outside world, although they are gaining more of an awareness. - Picard102, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Brazil has been asking for it for years.
- aknowles5139, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Okay... I'm from Canada.
I don't know why anyone would want to attack us? lol especially America...
If they we're to ask people in Canada that question... almost everyone would say we shouldn't.
Funny video though. - greenanator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Funny video. Hardly accurate. It'd be nice to know how many takes it took to find those idiots.
- karjala, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This is extremely old
- psychicfriend, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Actually, those people don't look homeless to me - pretty typical crowd for Venice Beach or whatever. I'm sure the film editors did their job well in order to provide clips with only the highest-quality stupidity (otherwise it wouldn't be entertaining!). Reality is that half of all people are below median intelligence, both in this country (USA) and elsewhere. You can find people who are equally ignorant anywhere. What you WON'T find in most other countries are people, stupid or smart, who would blithely answer the question "who should we invade next?" This is due to our current high level of cultural arrogance.
I've never seen any studies that indicate the *IQ* of the average American is any lower than elsewhere but we DO have a great deal of political and social arrogance that is (A) encouraged by our media and (B) a by-product of our (current) economic and military leadership. We tend to give ourselves a lot of "personal credit" for item (B), rather than realizing our position as a nation is the result of being "in the right place at the right time," as once was true of Britain, the Ottomans, the Romans, the Greeks, the Persians, and the Mycenaens. To be fair, it is only human to act this way.
But if you're not from the USA, I hope you don't fall into the equally arrogant trap of saying, "Oh, we could run the world so much better than those stupid americans and their Paris Hilton -level of intelligence." You'd ***** it up too, guys. You would elect someone just as bad or worse than Bush (Germany? Italy? China? Russia? Have you ever gotten yourself any bad leaders?). It could be you.
OK, I have to go watch reality TV now and give my cat his yoga lesson.

This pretty much explains it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3RE: Anti-Americanism
The fact that you've made a term, and used America as an ism, shows that your countries people have taken certain stands on issues, and you feel that is what makes you a proud American. I think what the rest of the world is trying to get across is simply to stop bringing your dumb pride into the arguments, and stop being so damned happy about your military might. That's you, that's not your government. You've been to a high school football game, you know what I mean. It's passed on there like a torch, this silly pride of power. Like "we are the number 1 country in the world" and "we are on top" and "we could kick your asses" and "you're just happy that we don't..." "we are the most powerful country" etc, etc. If you want to be a war machine, let us all know. I thought you wanted to bring the troops home, not send them out to new countries?
The only other countries beating their war drums are the very countries you people are saying ought to be invaded! Take a minute to view the USA as a Swedish person, or an Australian, or a Egyptian. How do you think it's looking? We all know nuclear weapons are not to be used, they're to defend. The world doesn't want any more large country wars. Have Army, costs money, soldiers antsy, must do something. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You know what's even funnier than this video? When you ask non-Americans where various U.S. states and capitals are. They stare at you with the same blank face they make fun of Americans for having.
Also, ask Europeans sometime why anti-Semitism is on such an upsurge if they're so enlightened over there. Moral of the story? Stupid people are everywhere, and this is just more immature anti-America goofiness to hit the Digg front page. Sigh. - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Canada!!!

Prospered. - majeztic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm Australian and I live in America and am constantly amazed how many American's don't know the capital of Australia.
- optimus008, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All I can say is it been done, and its getting old. God can't Comedians come up with anything new.
its amazing how editing can make thing look. - ziks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3For what it's worth The Chaser makes fun of everyone - not just Americans. You guys just got lucky in that one sketch :)
- an0n1m0us, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Tasmania, not Tazmania
Who is more ignorant, us Australians who must vote and marginally vote in John Howard's conservative idiocy, or Americans who don't have to vote, and therefore can remain ignorant of politics, a majority of whom do.
Then those who don't ignore politics vote 50% Bush, allow him to steal an election and then vote him in again for screwing everything up.
Ignorance is bliss, just ask the vast majority of the first world population. Alas the vast majority of the human population - the third world - cannot share this ignorant bliss because they can't ignore what they don't have. - Splizxer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3For some reason, I don't think it's a coincidence.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTKJFlPGpUk - SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The guy's pointing at Australia and Tazmania: "I didn't know North Korea was so much larger than South Korea!"
- shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4oh my god, are you actually getting offended on behalf of your country for a section of a comedy show taken out of context and passed around the web?
grow the ***** up please... anyone who believes all americans are this stupid are stupider than the people in the video... - toarn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Lame. Unfair representation of Americans as a whole. A little clever editing, and bingo! all americans are stupid geographically challenged backwoods hicks. For one guy to mistake australia for n. korea and then the video has the title "Stupid Americans" The title should have just been "Stupid people in general" I'm sure there's plenty in other countries.
- dexOtaku, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3On one hand, I know many intelligent, conscious and conscientious US citizens.
On the other hand, the kind of programming seen here is not original. We Canadians have been making fun of Americans for years in exactly this way, with [often on-the-street] interviews that even included congressmen. The congressmen are usually just as if not more stupid than the general public asked questions in the street. Go find just about any programme by Rick Mercer, for example.
It's a sad state of affairs, though. We like to poke fun at our neighbours, probably because we're scared by them - because they're generally seen as arrogant gun-toting, nuke-wielding cowboy wannabes. Unfortunately, American media culture frankly does little to dissuade this opinion [and does in fact reinforce it].
There are stupid people everywhere. Look at we Canadians - the ***** Conservative party just got voted in! I mean, not one single person I know actually voted for them, but hey - there they are in power, lapdogs to the US administration and all.
Aussies are no better. ***** Howard. -
