- Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I'm still holding out for Polish Star Trek.
Is a screen door on a starship even possible? - Miyazaki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Turkish Superman - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGmlsbHrX6s
Turkish Star Wars - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3wgcvItHEw - vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7harhar. i love how the captain sashays in.
- KingMofo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6and I’ve never even heard of anyone who’s ever heard of anyone who speaks Turkish"
That's cause he's a dimwhit. Turkey has over 70 million population in an area around that of Texas with countless millions more living abroad (especially Germany). Istanbul is one of the largest cities in the world with over 15 million.
This movie more acturately translates as "Tourist Omer..." and in familiar Turkish talk the term Tourist is used with a slightly derogatory/humorous meaning. This movie is what westerners would call a "B rated cult classic" among (some) turkish people (not me).
Whoever thinks this is Turkey's only failed attempt at stardom is sadly mistaken. - ragipy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It translates to "Traveller Omer on Star Trek"
Turist Omer is a character which a lot of movies are based on, most similar to probably Ernest movies.
By the way, the review is very reliable, from TFA "which reminds me that I should let you know that the movie hasn’t been subtitled and I’ve never even heard of anyone who’s ever heard of anyone who speaks Turkish" - bigfkncee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5uhura
- Lane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My Universal Traslator isnt working : /
- angrycat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Gotta love the short short uniforms the women are wearing.
- Zique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Could this mean that the days of Japanese monopoly on everything weird and crazy are numbered?
- mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Uses a short PF's Echoes track from the 1971 Meddle and probably a very small piece of Ummagumma.
- KingMofo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4 You guys are totally missing the point that this movie makes fun of Star Trek, and does it really well. You are looking from a perspective of 2006 technology, but this film was shot in the early 80s... in that perspective, it's quite ok technically.
The humour from this movie is classic. It is beyond translation as some of the jokes would come out as "Yellow alert! Monster on ship. TO: Monster is your father..." which evidently means nothing to an english speaking crowd.
- SpacePope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hey don't be making fun of my people ;)
I would never want to see a polish Star Trek either but we have one or two good scifi movies
... god.... polish star trek - vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2by the way, via parislemon's link, here's the opening 6 mins to Turkish Star Wars.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=t4JfM24JZLk
Quoting The Wave: "Turkish Star Wars begins with a narrator talking over a series of short clips stolen from the original Star Wars mixed in with vintage footage of NASA rockets taking off. This narration goes on about five times longer than the amount of footage they have, so the sequence of clips is repeated over and over while he talks."

http://www.thewavemag.com/pagegen.php?pagename=article&articleid=22646 - interiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not until they strap pieces of meat on the foreheads of their young women, and make them run screaming around the studio. Nothing says absurdity like functional meat hats.
- meepus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2at about six and a half minutes in, it really picks up. the black guy looks a lot like samuel l jackson, and then there's a funny scream and a rock war...
- mikolby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They even used a little Pink Floyd in there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2“Miss Uhura, we are crotching a course for the panties sector, coordinates your whole ass hanging out. Repeat: panties, panties, panties. ”
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1See, the random support posts are because the starship is built upside down and the bridge is in the basement, behind the furnace.
- fani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh! the humanity.
- molafish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm sure that's because they didn't have a soundstage. They probably built the bridge inside an existing structure that had I-beam supports.
You should celebrate the beams, they are part of the unintended comedy!
I also love how the extras are punching buttons at a furious rate. It's so distracting! Looks like the Turkish Enterprise doesn't come equipped with a computer, just a bunch of buttons and lights. - boolean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haha, one of the first movies I've seen my life. what a luck !
By the way, It was recorded in 1973. - Garda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They have sabre fights in dinner suits in Turkish star wars.
Also, did anyone else notice Turkish kirk is kinda camp. Take a look as he walks in at the beginning - molsen311, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i wish the camera followed the blonde around more
- interiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But there's random support posts on the bridge! Why did they add them, they're distracting and people just have to walk around them.
- JohnH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hm, that fellow who wrote the review in The Wave, this "Seanbaby," I think I've heard of him somewhere before....
- tinkerfknbell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Chinese Battlestar Galactica, Russian Farscape, Portuguese Red Dwarf...the possibilites are endless ;)
- molafish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love that Philips sponsored Turkish Star Wars!
- hirak99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Nice review so very apt. Could easily fit any of the hindi Indian-ized version of Superman/Star Trek/Phantom shows as well.
- maggl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol I didnt think I would see this clip ever again. It's just sooo old.
Btw. it has no subtitles because it's impossible to translate the classic tourist-oemer jokes :) - seshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i mean turkish sawwy
- mfryc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Two things:
* This seems to be a loose adaptation of the TOS episode "The Man Trap."
* The exterior scenes were filled in the ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus--as in the book of the Bible "Ephesians" to whom Paul wrote. - LEDDY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1FUKIN LAWL!!!!!!
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3 WTF?
No English subtitles.
Boring. - ironylives, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0So, in Turkey the endless parade of expendable Security officers
wear green tunics, rather then the traditional red?
Most illogical. Green doesn't hide blood stains nearly so well. ;-)
Il ike the guy whistling for the door effect, too. - seshi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wouldnt be funny if they did battlestar galactica in chinese i thought it was kinda funny waching americans speak rurkish one time a guy was talking with out his mouth shut it was soooooooooooooooo cheasy rofle
- Sccatter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I love the teleport sequence very cheesy but very funny. Even calls them by thier names Mr. Spock and Ohara.
- Crowforge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1utter crap
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1i dont know how many people noticed the ***** affair going on.. near the start you see a man walk out of the closet with auto doors, then about 30 seconds later the captain walks out, he walked like a ***** even..
i dont watch fag movies - emorphien, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Hahaha they've copied everything!
