    A type 1 diabetic is unable to regulate their blood sugar levels. They need just as much sugar as everyone else 'needs', they just can't deal with any excess or shortfall. A hypoglycemic attack is actually more dangerous then a hyperglycemic (excess sugar) since symptom wise you feel like you are, and appear to be, drunk. At very low sugar levels you become practically paralytic, just like a drunk and cannot articulate words, just like a drunk.

    After that, you enter a coma and have a pretty low chance of survival unless someone happens to see past your apparent 'drunkess' and help you.

    And let's be honest. How many people stop to help drunks.

    I am type 1. My bloodsugar goes crazy *high* if I don't inject insulin roughly 4 times a day. I can eat all the carbs I want, so long as I match it with insulin.

    Before you go bury crazy on me being a nazi about it, keep in mind that awareness of this disease, or more importantly misinformation, could in many cases affect whether a person lives or dies in case of an emergency.

  • Zero123, on 04/07/2009, -2/+3FAIL: These guys should have researched type 1 diabetes more. Type 1 diabetics don't get diagnosed for the first time with low blood sugar. If your hypoglycemic, then you'd have low blood sugar. Type 1s present with elevated blood sugar, weak immune system.
