Absolutely my #1 favorite moment from the "Salsa Escape" ep. - xdevit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Missing the one when they made a mold from Kari's butt

- roosterjm2k2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Buried for exesssive stupidity.
The paint? wasnt to see if you could paint yourself, was to see if full body paint could lead to problems with breathing/metabolism type stuff. (hence the medics on hand)
The cd, was tested in normal parameters because of stories/myths about cds failing in drives and shrapnel coming out and doing damage. there are 2 parts to every myth on the show, test the myth within its boundaries, then replicate the results of the myth by any means neccessary.
And actually, the killer quicksand was part of the "movie myths" shows. Alot of movies have used the "killer quicksand" bit...so it fell right in line with the logic of the show.
Grow a brain, figure out how to use it, then come back. - Quintus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17There goes the rest of my day.
- admirabumblebee, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16Tantalizing?
Not... at .... all.
Not on her, not on anyone. That thing is something my great grandmother may have worn on a cold winter day. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Ahh.....the clip of Kari was worth it alone.....but I suppose the other clips were pretty interesting too :)
But, the bikini was kinda ugly - vbsurfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7wheres the walking in the rain vs. running episode? I always tell people about that one.
- Rickard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Gotta love Adam's comment:
- I left it right here! - covertbadger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I think his point was simply that Mythbusters has done much better stuff than this. I'm inclined to agree. Whilst these clips might be 'on-topic', they aren't exactly up there with trying to fuse a car between two giant trucks in a head-on collision.
- alexkorova, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I've worked before in technical support for a computer firm, shattered CDs where not that uncommon, but people got rather suprised when it happened.
- adolfojp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Kari is pure love wrapped in human skin.
- dashifen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's not a myth. It's happened to me. I was sitting three about five feet from the machine in which it happened.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@Azur2
But that's right you know everything. If you were even paying attention which apparently you weren't not all the Cd's were microwaved. I dugg you down for being a idiot who can't even pay attention to the damn clip. Next time pay attention to the clip before you open your mouth in stupidity. You know that show is liked by highly intelligent people so I guess that's why you don't like it because you don't understand it. - steveoco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That paramedic guy seemed like a bit of a tool, making fun of her and stuff and then giving her oxygen which did not seem really called for.
Besides that, great segments. - bmcnally, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What about the one where they test the "swimming underwater to escape bullets" myth? Firing high powered rifles in a swimming pool was my favorite show.
- IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's the one! 0:19 is the keeper moment.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, I didn't realize how bad biometric locks were.
- BigATB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"d00d our robot worked"
- scallon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I don't remember paying much attention to their quicksand argument, but i can recall many episodes that made me sit back and go "Well, why the hell didn't they try _______!" I'm also not a fan of how much they use their ballistics gel dummy as a replacement for real humans. Sure the physical structure may be the same but the reaction isn't going to be the same. As an example: Remember the one where they drop the dummy through the awnings? A real human would not just have their limbs flailing around like that. They would bring their limbs close in to their bodies and inside the perimeter of the awning, or at least try.
And i know someone, one of the infinite number of people on Digg who consider themselves a genius, is going to bring up the fact that they did drop a human through the awnings. True, but they also cut the awnings and taped them back together beforehand.
I'm not completely knocking the show, it is entertaining, but two former special effects guys are not really qualified to consider anything impossible. - stephenwq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3CD one was top notch, love the way how they always go excessive on things.
And sucks to be that dummy.... - bbardlbradd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Azur2: Um, watch that again. There was ONE cd that failed that was NOT microwaved.
Also, I had Star Craft exlode in my regular DVD drive way back in 2000 (or around then). It had a star mark on it, so it was damaged, but still... it wasn't a big mark or a fast drive. - jlbraun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Indeed. IIRC, a .50 cal BMG round (12,000 ft-lbs muzzle energy) penetrated water to a depth of... 20 inches, while a puny 9mm handgun penetrated over 6 feet!
Basically, the rifle rounds disintegrated on contact with the water. Still I think they should have tried AP rounds to see the difference. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why not just skip the pretext and create a show that's just hot women in bikinis blowing things up? Girls Gone Wild With Explosives.
Works for me! - disturbed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yea the butt mold episode was the best... that silver bikini was not attractive at all
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8umm, she was pretty much always wow.. The added silver didnt do much more for me.
- brenbart, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'd have to agree with the bikini ugly comment.
I wonder if the style of bikini was mandated by Kari's preferences, tv ratings, availability of silver bikinis that fit Kari or some other reason.
She's a hottie though.
Personally, I liked the contrast of her red hair with the silver before she sprayed it with the silver hair stuff. - student69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am a computer admin, and I have had 2 clients with discs that have shattered or broke. The first one the disc just came loose and broke into some large pieces. The second actually shattered, I had to open the drive up and pick all the little pieces out. I am not to sure how or what caused the discs to fail but the second one was a kids game out of a cereal box so it was probably mishandled a lot. Also I think the drives them selfs have to fail in some way not just sheer rpm, like something coming in contact with the spinning disc.
- halosniper7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"can i take this off?"
when she said that i was like "YES!@!"
but...she was talking about the oxygen - Mipmap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hard to compete with Kari, but you've gotta include the remote control car episode - as in, a *real car*. They tested what it would take to rip the rear axle off a police car. How can you not like that?
- kLacK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2People have to start somewhere, or did you start right at the top?
- xenoploid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The top clip is dropping a dummy on an awning? Alright, this post is just stupid. There are way better clips than these.
- Emos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where's the wooden cannon segment in that list? That one was one of my favorites.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well, I'm guessing it's not all that easy to find silver bikinis so they just bought what they could find.
- kLacK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I missed that episode, why'd they make her fatter?
- tomisina, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2man if that silver bikini shot is famous wait till geeks get a hold of porn!
- magister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whoa, how did I miss this one?
Best....clip....ever! - zodieman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cacciatore di mythos (from the salsa escape)
- Osmanthus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The flaw with mythbusters is that they often try one approach to something, get a negative result, and then declare the myth busted. The quicksand episode is an example. For some reason they conclude that quicksand will be fine sand and water. But this assumption is too large. Consider for example grain silos [http://www.cdc.gov/nasd/docs/d001601-d001700/d001693/d001693.pdf] where people often die by drowing in grain. There is no water and the the particles are large, not fine. So they need to try quicksand that isnt fine, that is dry, and also combinations of granulairy before they can say anything about the myth being busted.
- MadOgre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kari Byron is a goddess... that is all.
- xenoploid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2WTF was the aluminum paste supposed to prove? The aluminum paste in Wizard of Oz didn't make the actor sick; it was the aluminum dust.
- mufasa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i have to admit, Kari is pretty hot. nice to have something to look at while watching mythbusters :p
- punk90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know you guys heard this story before from the above comments ^ but i thought i would share it with my fellow digger's,
It happened in the week Doom 3 came out, I just bought a super drive the day before I got D3, I put in disc 1 of D3 and about half way through the install my drive starting speeding up like a power drill. I didn't know wait to do so i pushed the button on the keyboard to open the drive and before i could KABOOM!! my D3 was all over the room. I was scared ***** less and sad at the same time, luckily Fry's was nice enough to replace my drive and D3 and to this day it hunts me to play D3. - HippieLettuce, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6That "bikini" was absolutely hideous and not particularly flattering. Don't get me wrong, I think Kari is a lovely girl, but that outfit definitely wasn't doing it for her.
- Hoshnasi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly the wooden cannon is one of my top ten. The Cd one should have been number one in that list.
- adolfojp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It was an excuse to get Kari semi naked!
Mmmmm.... Kari.... - kentobean, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The only flaw in the CD shattering myth is that they tested the speed by velocity. CD speeds are actually rated by TRANSFER rate, 1x speed is 150 KB/second and you can do the math from there. I'm sure it could still happen, but 40x the transfer rate does not necessarily mean 40x the actual velocity.
- snoots, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow, Azur2 is just stupid. Did he even watch the clip? So much misinformation.
- hbox, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I'd like to see the mythbuster guys do a segment on the WTC collapse. Build a to-scale model of the steel support structure and put a to-scale few tons of weight on top and try to melt the beams with jet fuel.
You know, since the real engineers aren't working on the models in any official capacity.
I'm not a conspiracy nutjob. The "pull it" comment is pretty odd though. And it's obvious neocon allies pulled off the job, and it's obvious who benefitted from it. I don't doubt planes hit the wtc of course, but i think it really had to be spectacular to get the PNAC guys into Iraq with no real reason. Just like they and their Saudi Buddies have wanted to do since 97.. -
