- KrazyGamerHead, on 04/04/2009, -6/+80Rest in peace Hedberg you were one of my favorites
- mborys88, on 04/04/2009, -1/+64George Carlin, hands down, all time favorite. I was lucky enough to see him at a University back in 95 during parents weekend. There were a lot of offended mothers by the end of the show. It was GREAT!
- floboskifilms, on 04/04/2009, -3/+31So glad Bill Hicks is on the list.
- fanfablebig, on 04/04/2009, -2/+26#1 George Carlin. I don't see it any other way.
- aimeemw, on 04/04/2009, -1/+23"Is a hippopotamus a hippopotamus or just a really cool opotamous?"
- richmondphotog, on 04/04/2009, -0/+17where's dangerfield? oh well. It is a top "x" list.
- fjangelone, on 04/04/2009, -3/+18George Carling is the greatest comedian of all time! I don't think anyone can come close to how funny his material was! RIP Carlin.
- lokee73, on 04/04/2009, -8/+23No way Hicks comes in ahead of Carlin or Pryor.
Those two are far and away the best who ever lived. - Digglu, on 04/05/2009, -0/+14Rodney Dangerfield gets no respect.
- daveyWSS, on 04/04/2009, -2/+15Dugg for Mitch Hedberg

Take off Sam Kinison, and replace him with Lenny Bruce, and then you got yourself a real, honest list. - satanatnmtedu, on 04/04/2009, -10/+22No Lenny Bruce = no digg.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+12comedian = Great laughs
comedian dead = very Sad - inactive, on 04/04/2009, -2/+13RIP Mitch
- amabaie, on 04/04/2009, -4/+15What, no Charlie Chaplin?
- newbill123, on 04/05/2009, -0/+10He gets NO respect!
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+9stand up, son. stand up
- rentmitchum, on 04/04/2009, -1/+10He should have been #1.. I'm sorry, but out of the whole list, he's my favorite.. maybe the most tragic loss... I remember the day he died, they announced it the next day actually, which was April 1st.. So I guess he has been gone 4 years now.. but I remember the news came on the radio. I thought it was some sort of sick April fools joke.. I was at work and couldn't find out till later when I got off. I had just been looking up when he would be in the northeast the day before because out of all the comedians I've ever heard, he's one of the only ones I really really wanted to see perform..
RIP Mitch. I wish there was more posthumous stuff like Do You Believe In Gosh, but that's likely all the material left that we haven't heard.. - itc518, on 04/04/2009, -2/+10Yes, he was awesome. I had a really hard time deciding on my #1 between Carlin and Hicks but I had to go with Hicks as my personal fav because he was so much more than a comedian. I am not saying Carlin was not, it is just Hicks was just a tad different than the rest.
- agentsrecord, on 04/05/2009, -0/+8Carlin wasn't just a comedian, he was a philosopher.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -1/+8I think he's "up there" looking down on this thread right now...
- dzneill, on 04/05/2009, -0/+7The world got a whole ***** of a lot less funny when George died.
- manteca29, on 04/04/2009, -0/+7I agree with all of these but Carlin and Pryor should be the top 2 in any order. every major comedian credits these two with having the most influence on their comedy.
- EatsABurger, on 04/04/2009, -3/+10That's one terrible example of Bill Hicks.
- dead3ye, on 04/04/2009, -3/+10I once owned a vest...
If I had no arms...
It would be a JACKET.
- mitch hedberg - itc518, on 04/04/2009, -1/+8Wow, you must be a very boring person with no sense of humor if you think that about these 5 guys. Let me guess, your favorite comedians are CarrotTop and Pauly Shore?
- rentmitchum, on 04/04/2009, -0/+6Why do awesome people have to die?
- clownx, on 04/04/2009, -0/+6My favorite dead comedian is Edward Blake.
- scyphozoa, on 04/04/2009, -1/+7don't think of a list like this as an insult to your personal favorites, consider it a list of suggestions you should check out.
- e36wheelman, on 04/04/2009, -3/+8Carlin not being #1 equals no digg.
- ridd1e, on 04/04/2009, -0/+5I think that Carlin himself would agree that “RIP Carlin” is meaningless. *Rest* in peace? Hell no.
- FirstCuts, on 04/04/2009, -1/+6RIP Mitch Hedberg. Went before his time and he was hilarious.
- iskin, on 04/05/2009, -1/+6Carlin and Pryor were almost always funny. Hicks has some stale performances. On top of that, Hicks' most creative bits aren't as creative as Carlin's, and sometimes it is just a rant. Not to mention that a large portion of Hicks fan base discovered him posthumously. Carlin and Pryor have also had much greater impacts on the world, and on comedy than Hicks. Carlin deserves to be #1 on that list. However, Lenny Bruce probably deserves to be #1 overall.
- FelixDrylock, on 04/05/2009, -0/+5Thanks for mentioning his posthumous album, dude. I never heard of it, and I love Mitch Hedberg. I just downloaded it, and I'm currently listening to it. It makes me very happy that there are still jokes of his out there that I haven't heard yet. Thanks again!
- elnerdo, on 04/05/2009, -1/+6Ehhh.. I was hoping to see Dane Cook on this list.
- scyphozoa, on 04/04/2009, -2/+7thank god bill hicks was on that list. for a moment i was worried he wasn't.
- Moloy, on 04/04/2009, -2/+7Tonight, a Comedian died in New York
- Drull, on 04/05/2009, -0/+5There is too much stupidity to address in this post, so I'm just gonna play team fortress 2 instead.
- captjc, on 04/05/2009, -1/+5Karl Marx was a very funny guy. He was like the Pre-Andy Kaufman. What some people don't get is that his Manifesto of the Communist Party was actually a joke. A very dry, deadpan joke. Lennon got it and for the fun of it continued it on in much the same way as the Discordians, The SubGeniuses or the early Scientologists. But, like the Scientologists it fell into the wrong crowd who didn't quite get it. Then Stalin came into to picture and the rest is history.
I highly suggest reading it. It is a funny (albeit kind of dry) read. Just remember not to take it too seriously. - slapded, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4fail.
- slapded, on 04/04/2009, -1/+5diggbar needs mirrors
if hedberg is not on this list it wont be worth it. - AndrewJC, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4@elnerdo: Took me a second to get the joke, but then I LOLed.
- Spoomeister, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4Joe bless you.
- mborys88, on 04/04/2009, -0/+4Absolutely. Dugg for individuality. :-)
- p51d007, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4Mitch Hedberg is one of my favorites. I have him in my favorites list on XM......that dry sense of humor just cracks me up. Richard Pryor also......in the late 70's had his stuff memorized......"Thank god we have penitentiaries" LOL
- captjc, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4What are you talking about? George Carlin has been doing standup from the sixties until the year he died. His last standup special was broadcast live in March 2008. He died in June. He had a very active career. I am only 23, so most of his stuff is way before my time. However, my mom was a fan and turned me on to him at a young age. I have since read his books, and through the magic of DVDs, cable TV, and the Internet, I have also watched all of his HBO specials. I even have a few of his 'Little David' albums.
These performances were recorded and are available to anyone who wants to buy them. Just because something is before my time, doesn't mean that I haven't seen it. By the way, I am also a fan of Marx Brothers, The Three Stooges, Benny Hill, a few Humphrey Bogart Movies, Atari 2600, and John Lennon, just to name a few of the many things I enjoy that are way before my time. I think that I am, more or less, an average example of the 20-something age demographic on Digg. - Ellrick, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4Great bit, first one I thought of when I read he had died.
Im an atheist too, but when it comes to a guy like George, or Mitch, I sometimes hope I am wrong and they are happily existing somewhere. - SolidBones, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4I seriously thought he was the best one on this list, especially since his material was a bit more risky for the time.
- fuzzynyanko, on 04/04/2009, -0/+4I never knew the tidbit about Kinnison being a former preacher.
