The guy was a complete jackass; a couple of young kids approached him to tell him they were big fans of the show, really proud he was also from the town, and so on, and he cut them off with a dry "that's great - anything else you want to say?" The kids were totally polite, just said "nope" and walked away. Still love the show, however.

    Help a brother out, here... I actually don't watch every late-night show, Digg clip and youtube bit that goes by every day.

    Maybe it's one of those Letterman things that's only funny in context. Or stoned. Or where, the first time they do it, it's only sort of funny... then the next 8 times they reference it, it's really not funny... then by the 9th or 10th time they refer to it again, it's been beaten to death so much that it IS kinda funny...

It added to the realism of it while at the same time allowing Dave to poke fun at himself and not take things to seriously. All of this done by throwing an elbow at Seinfeld concerning his performance on Larry King. Despite being crass and "shock humor" it also has nuance.

I love all three, but rarely do I actually laugh out loud when watching Conan. Further, Conan does occasionally miss the mark, resulting in a rather painful groan factor.           And I'll respectfully disagree about Colbert and Stewart being anywhere near as funny as Conan. Part of it's because I don't particularly like political humor, but besides that I think Conan is just a hell of a lot more talented. He's all about impromptu wacky humor---he can make anything funny. Stewart is good at showing video clips and then making a funny face afterwards. Years ago when the Daily Show was actually funny it was because of the people around Stewart---Colbert, Carrell, Helms, etc. They're all funnier than he his. he's just a better showman.
