- n3xu5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+120The marker has a strong bad odor and the bug uses a scent trail, nothing amazing but semi amuzing.
- asurroca, on 10/12/2007, -6/+62Wow, that's one of the funniest videos I've seen in a whlie. One could argue that the bug is actually smart, though; if you were a teeny bug, wouldn't you avoid some random foul-smelling black mess that suddenly appears in your path? X-D
- mikochu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+58Real life Jezzball! YA!
- synaesthesia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+44That bug was smarter than he looked; while he was distracting the dude with the pen, 10,000 of his insect comrades made off with the contents of the guy's lunch bag.
- mrmidgetman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29wasnt funny. we did an expirament in biology with termites. The pen uses pheromones and the bug doesnt cross it.
- frant1c, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24As dumb as that poor bug might be, I bet it would do a better job of filming the incident than that guy.
- nerditup, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19+digg for picturing a bear rug eating me
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16The only thing this proves is that through human civilization, and civilization alone, you (P3ST4) have been able to remain at the top. Using your logic- If you were running around and a huge river of foul smelling black ***** 30 feet across appeared in front of you out of nowhere, you would proceeded to cross it immediately. Showing that you have a propensity to leap before you look (and likely do other stupid things), I can almost guarantee you that you wouldn't make it long without civilization.
- cryonix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19that sucks, i love rats and mice. but i also understand the balance of life and that the mouse was food. but lets say you were dropped at somones house that looked like you could live there and the bear rug jumped up and ate you! i bet it thought it was its new home and was being kept as a pet... sad if you think of it that way.
- neutrascrub, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15i think it was the scent of the marker keeping it away
- radu79, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Some bugs actually do relay on their vision, but most of them favour the dark places. Makes them feel safe.
There was this guy who interfaced a bug with a trackball controlled vehicle, and used to send light impulses to the bug so the bug moved in the desired direction. Was pretty interesting. - quicksilver, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14this mouse scene is beteer http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6755370137921587636&q=matrix+mouse
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I beg to differ. Bacteria are at the top of the food-chain. THey are one of the most abundant life-forms, and we are powerless to stop them usually.
- Araya213, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9You can do this with ants if you use chalk, they will eventually just give up and cross it though. Also, you can drown a fly to death, cover it with a mound of salt, and eventually it will come back to life! It will be dazed for a few hours, during which time you can play with it, or show this seemiingly dosile fly off to your friends. Eventually it will fly away sans it's soul (at least that's my theory).
- Crowe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Do you realise the implications? You could, in essence make a black and white painting entirely out of bugs moving in a small space. Living Art indeed.
- iduno871, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Peta has donated many thousands of dollard to ALF, and they are a bunch of hyppocrites and *****, but mos tpeople know that unless they are too ***** retarted to read about the Cult they are joining
- mcoder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Real life Qix (an old arcade game) !
- suomi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Have you seen the drick that British 'Mentalist' Derren Brown does...? He places a wallet on the pavement, stuffed with cash, draws a bright yellow circle round it and leaves. People invariably walk around the circle and NOBODY stops to examine the wallet...
- babylonian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yup, we did the exact same experiment in 10th grade Biology. Thing is, when we did it, the bugs actually followed the ink we used. My partner and I made a racetrack. Probably one of the coolest hands-on experiments ever.
- dallen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Try that in America and it wouldn't last very long
- Alegis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6falle in this case means trap. So ball-point pen trap
I also think it was the scent. - askjeffro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You know, its funny, the entire time I was watching that bug run around I was thinking "This is exactly what humans do to themselves every day."
I do it, you do it, etc. We all put up borders to our existence that don't have to be there or are easily crossed. At least in the case of this bug there was a legit reason for caution. - aquax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, it wasn't a marker, it was a ballpoint.
Kugelschreiberfalle = Case of ball-point pen
(according to Google translate) - jsilva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For bugs, the ink with alcohol is something annoying, I think =P
- guitardvark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4would have been better if the dude drew a maze for it
- radu79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Speaking of cruelty to animals, I used to play with molecrickets and remove their head, then watch the body and the head move independently.
Now, before you rate me down, the molecrickets are VERY VERY bad insects, they cause a lot of damage to gardens, so killing them is the right thing to do. - theRIAA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3same here!
shopping list:
1000 termites
whiteboard
special Markers - orangekid13, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7wow this is especially funny when you've been drinking :D
- demonthises, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I did a similar experiment.
If you draw a chalk line in front of the path of an ant then the ant will not want to cross it.
I tried this once with an ant that I found in my bathroom. I put the ant on a piece of notebook paper and drew a box around the ant with sidewalk chalk. The ant would freak out, raise its front legs, and would sort of jump up on its hind legs every time it came in contact with the chalk. - Araya213, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No, I have no video, though I will probably make one now that you mention it. The fly is actually quite dead, I have left them underwater for hours before just to make sure. It is very hard to get the little bastards to give up the ghost! Try it for yourself, it's really alot of fun and the zombie flys don't appear to suffer any real harm. I've done it a dozen times and have never had one not come back to life.
- godsfilth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5PETA is allready "nutz"
- llewner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And still a million times smarter than the most robots.
- melmyfinger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4cruelty to animals!!
- xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4nicht lustig
- nick4342, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Hilarity ensues"
did you copy this headline straight off of fark? - iLEZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The water probably justs numbs the fly. The salt will dry it out and it will be "ok" again. Still, i wouldn't recommend doing this, as it will probably come back to you one day. =)
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Was it Tucker Max?
- Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I was thinking the same thing!
- vaduzl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Insects are brilliant robots, and think how amazing , they achieve billions of reproduction all by themselves Spend a night still in a rain forest , and they will cart you away , to be devoured
- demonthises, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Please bury the above comment. digg is apparently going into conniptions tonight and doesn't want to show all the comments all the time.
- molsen311, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2my roomate had a snake he'd feed baby mice to. if one could avoid the snake for a while, we'd let it live and i'd put it in a cage with the other lucky bastards. hell, if it was in the wild, it would have been able to escape anyways.
- royaltea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well the bug wasn't that dumb after all...He escaped at the end.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Not funny at all. The man is the dumb one.
- AkshayGenius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1youtube is down, probably due to this article and the "Ten tech-related YouTube clips" you shouldn't miss article.
"Network Error (tcp_error)

Thats the message I get! - greenhornet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2dugg down because the video is never in focus and the camera guy can't hold it still.
- booc0mtaco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1exactly!!!! where can i find that game, for mac, even...
- B0jangles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I wouldn't say that was the slightest bit hilarious!
- kevin.gc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1video?
- AkshayGenius, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Well, we have a new message, a better one though:
