  • truman48, on 03/01/2008, -0/+9A vicious cycle. Demoralize a kid's self esteem by destroying expectations of himself, so he will grow up in the same ***** state his family lives in. I bet in every aspect of his life his life (school, friends, and personal interest) he gets the same level of attention.
  • monkeyshines, on 03/01/2008, -0/+8This is another one of those stories where context is really important. If this video were the whole story, I'd agree that the parents were terrible people. However, one of the comments on that video site brings up another side. Of course this may or may not be true, but it certainly shows how problematic it can be to make a judgment on limited information.

    "what I found out was that the kid really did get an XBOX360. His parents did it as a joke because they had found out he was peaking at his presents earlier, and saw the box. So as a joke they did that, then a few hours later actually gave him the XBOX360"

    Of course, there can be better ways to teach lessons than what the parents did here, but if this is true, it definitely casts the events in a different light.

The only way that would have been OK is if they gave it to him right after, you know sometime before he started crying.
