- debuggercll, on 05/29/2008, -2/+11If they wanna make me laugh, they can come over to my house and tickle my junk.
- jeebus, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2Yep, that's all of them.
- johndajap56, on 05/29/2008, -1/+310 funny women on the internet, plenty more in real life
- bastardprince, on 05/29/2008, -4/+2Amy Poehler at number 4, maybe they're arent any funny women so.
- ICSU, on 05/29/2008, -4/+2Your mum to start with.

A: One, and it's not funny.
- curseoflou, on 05/29/2008, -4/+9all lies... everyone knows women aren't funny.
- macaca, on 05/29/2008, -10/+36Tina Fay # 1 ?

- Rozza, on 05/29/2008, -3/+4her?
//as in the arrested development 'her', you dummies
Is she funny or something?- iamnobody8614, on 05/29/2008, -2/+2As a fellow AD fan I dug you up, but it's never really a good idea to explain your jokes. They either work or they don't.
- nycmac247, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2for her writing on 30 rock - which is quite funny IMHO
- charlietuna, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1This is what is known as the "snatch effect".
- Cerebron, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1Amy Poeller is easily number one.
- sparkmonkeyz, on 05/29/2008, -11/+24Although I know it wouldn't really go with the theme of Maxim, I think Ellen Degeneres should have been at least somewhere on there.
- Ortheos, on 05/29/2008, -4/+4Ellen degenerate? Who?
- duerra, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3Heh, the page is still loading when I read this comment, and I'm already officially disappointed. Regardless of her failed show or anything else, Ellen is a fantastically funny woman, and her standup is some of the funniest that I have seen, male or female.
- duerra, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3Check that - this entire list is b0rked. This list seems to be a popularity contest more than anything, and is most definitely not representative of the funniest women in the comedy business, as would be determined by anybody with any credibility in comedy.
- Oddish, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1You need to calibrate your funny-meter.
- JoeHammer, on 05/29/2008, -10/+4Who let women speak?
- Condemned, on 05/29/2008, -12/+5None of them are really that funny except Tina Fey...
- treelovinhippie, on 05/29/2008, -7/+41Inaccurate, women aren't funny. Hitchens explains: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7izJggqCoA
- Prathik89, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1Wow, that was extremely insightful! Thanks!
- thescimitar, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4Hitchens is hilarious :D It's a fine line between wry wit and good ol' fashioned misogyny.
- stupidfilters, on 05/29/2008, -17/+22how is sarah silverman even on the list....
- umterpsfan, on 05/29/2008, -7/+2you sir, fail at funny...

*cue the anti-semitic remarks disguised as comic criticism in 3, 2, 1..- Encablossa, on 05/29/2008, -2/+2Oh I don't know, maybe the crowd's awkward silence has to do with it.
- libertao, on 05/29/2008, -5/+1Apart from her stupid songs, her cd actually had some good bits in it.
- dksupremacy, on 05/29/2008, -2/+2Cause she ***** Matt Damon

- fani, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3...the worst woman comic of the world. Her grating loud voice is super annoying.
- landmonster, on 05/29/2008, -14/+24Women aren't funny.
- rockchops, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1I know of plenty women who are quite good at funny. None of the women on this list are in that pool of persons, or anywhere near it.
- bapplebo, on 05/29/2008, -9/+2What's a woman?
- trumpcard, on 05/29/2008, -10/+6Most of them should be thanking the writers for their script.
- keymastr, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1Do the writers help with delivery and personality too? Anyone can read a ***** joke, but not everyone can make it sound funny.

- tomselleck69, on 05/29/2008, -2/+5A few correct, but any Bamford-less list is flawed on the most fundamental level.
- analogkid01, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2Agreed. Yank Wanda Sykes off and put Maria on, and I'll be more of a fan of this list.
- Stevethegreat, on 05/29/2008, -5/+22Apparently the world is comprised from half North America and has a population of 300 million, one billion less than China. Good that I learn -every day- something new on Digg.
- stanleyford, on 05/29/2008, -1/+4The list was chosen by voters at Maxim. If it was limited only to women in the US, it's because those women are more famous (relatively) than their international counterparts. People like you are always grousing about the US-centric focus of US-based Web sites, but can you even name ten famous female Chinese comedians?
- Stevethegreat, on 05/29/2008, -2/+4I can't, the Chinese maybe would, my point is that the world does not care much for what's happening in the US anymore than it did some decades ago. Those news are regional and thus do not deserve the "world's" title, otherwise words become contaminated and eventually lose their meaning.
- stanleyford, on 05/29/2008, -1/+3As far as I'm aware, voting wasn't restricted to the residents of the US, and voters were free to choose any woman they wanted--including comediennes and actresses outside the US. A voter in the UK could have chosen a Chinese comedienne; that they didn't (or at least didn't in large enough numbers to matter) is no one's fault. Must the author of the article now conduct a census to make sure that the poll voters represent an international distribution before using the title "The World's 10 Funniest Women" instead of "The US's 10 Funniest Women"? Isn't that kind of silly?
The list was comprised of the women whom the voters of Maxim believe are the funniest in the world. Of course that list would therefore reflect the personal biases and limited knowledge of the voters. The fact that the rest of the world (and even the rest of the US) doesn't really care about what those people think is irrelevant. - Stevethegreat, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3Good reply but still the Digg submission's title is off. Digg is supposed to serve worldwide customers, unlike Maxim.

- ZenTaff, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2I think us non-Americans appreciate that the poll was conducted among readers of Maxim's US edition and therefore was bound to contain US-based comedians. No complaints there.
But what's the problem with calling the article "America's 10 Funniest Women" in that case? It just makes Americans look a bit insular and conceited, in a kind of World = USA way. A lot of us in other parts of the world just find that a bit strange, that's all, because it's not something that we do.
I'm pretty sure that if the UK edition of Maxim ran a similar article, they'd either call it "Britain's 10 Funniest Women" and only include British women, or they'd call it something like "The 10 Funniest Women on TV" and Sarah Silverman, Tina Fey and maybe Sam Bee would make the list along with British women like Jo Brand, Francesca Martinez, Victoria Wood and French & Saunders.
But hey, much like the 100 Sexiest Women polls, this might as well be called "Ten Funny Women I've Seen on Mainstream TV in the Last Few Months". There are plenty of great female comedians working the comedy circuits in the UK and the US who don't get much exposure, but are way funnier than a lot of women on this list. There just aren't enough people who are prepared to go looking for them though, so they get ignored.- PJBovoNox, on 05/30/2008, -0/+0"It just makes Americans look a bit insular and conceited"
Yes, and god forbid they would ever _be_ that...
- PJBovoNox, on 05/30/2008, -0/+0"It just makes Americans look a bit insular and conceited"
- stanleyford, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1Stevethegreat, ZenTaff, you both make good points. It's probably true that Americans are less aware of the cultural exports of other nations than other nations are aware of America's cultural exports. I don't think that implies Americans are insular or conceited so much as it implies that there is an international demand for American culture which is not matched by a reciprocal demand for international culture in the US (with obvious exceptions--such as the never-ending American demand for music from the UK). An American actress or comedian has a reasonable chance of becoming famous worldwide, whereas it is much less likely for a famous Chinese comedienne (for example) to become famous outside her own borders.
- pbhj, on 05/31/2008, -0/+0You're missing the point a little ... just don't call it the "World's 10 ..." unless it was comprised from worldwide comediennes or was vote by a globally spread population.
Those US based comediennes that are internationally known aren't on there like Whoopi Goldberg, Tracey Ullman ... so basically the complaint is that USA appears to thinks if ain't from the USA it's crap.
Yeah, Maxim readers, yadda-yadda; but the editors could write proper headings in the magazine.

- light50, on 05/29/2008, -4/+4No Cho - No Diggity.
- benroy, on 05/29/2008, -5/+5Any funny woman must be a witch.
The population of this entire list should either be burned or tossed into a swift-moving river.- lolinyerface, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2I hear this type of talk alot, usually from the small wang crowd.
Sorry, God/whatever hates you.
- lolinyerface, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2I hear this type of talk alot, usually from the small wang crowd.
- VinnieDaMac, on 05/29/2008, -2/+2The woman that wrote that article is pretty funny.
- GoKings, on 05/29/2008, -7/+10I'm not sexist, but I have yet to find a woman comedian that can make me laugh.
- altaweel, on 05/29/2008, -6/+0Theres funny women?
- TwwIX, on 05/29/2008, -11/+6Another ***** list makes it to digg. Tina Fey is as funny as a mangled up turd.
- libertao, on 05/29/2008, -3/+130 rock isn't funny?
- goreyend, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2no its not
- libertao, on 05/29/2008, -3/+130 rock isn't funny?
- Pootle4rthur, on 05/29/2008, -7/+19This seems to be another example of a writer labouring under the misapprehension that the world is only the US.
Sarah Silverman is as funny as having a double hernia, there are better female comics working in the UK, but of course the UK isn't part of the world.- BarnacleBob, on 06/06/2008, -4/+1You've got that right, mate. Same as Baseball (World Series? They only play with themselves!)
- midejitsu, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1Three words: Toronto Blue Jays.
- frazw, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1The World series is named after The World newspaper and not meant in the global sense.
- frazw, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1Spot on dude!
- tymme, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1There's far better comediannes in the US than those on this list, for that matter.
- BarnacleBob, on 06/06/2008, -4/+1You've got that right, mate. Same as Baseball (World Series? They only play with themselves!)
- Alimack, on 05/29/2008, -4/+3Who are these people? Where is Victoria Wood?
- frazw, on 05/29/2008, -2/+2Why would she be on the list? It's about FUNNY women. Jo Brand is missing though.
- Schreck1, on 05/29/2008, -8/+11Lisa Lampanelli is easily funnier than Sarah Silverman. Silverman is just pathetic. She tries to make funny jokes, but they always fail
- gamben0, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Funny, I was thinking the exact opposite.
Lamanelli is funny if you are one of those white women that only date black men. Otherwise its on such a low level no one gets her jokes, or cares.
- gamben0, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Funny, I was thinking the exact opposite.
- hexydes, on 05/29/2008, -8/+2Tina Fey is NOT funny. Stop putting her on these lists!
- frazw, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2You do realise this is voted for and not just someone's opinion.
- tonyDigger, on 05/29/2008, -2/+3Maxim has started digg baiting big time, and we still bite, as I did too :)
- Rabbethan, on 05/29/2008, -7/+5Lisa Lampanelli? Really?
- diggbeerfridge, on 05/29/2008, -4/+2When some of your funniest people are SNL cast and alums you know it's time to re-examine your gender as a whole.
- mrogi, on 05/29/2008, -3/+4Tina Fey and Sarah Silverman are nowhere near the level of Lisa Lampanelli. The uglier the woman; the funnier she is. That general principle makes Lampanelli by far the funniest female comic on earth. Her standup material tackles taboo subjects with the hilarious brutal honesty only the best male comics can muster.
- ReyX, on 05/29/2008, -4/+2I have a "humor crush" on Tina Fey.
- D14BL0, on 05/29/2008, -2/+3Quit bitching about this list. This is composed from a Maxim poll. Which means Maxim readers. Which means they only watch basic cable and don't get to see women on TV other than on SNL.
- haselwimmer, on 05/29/2008, -4/+2Dumb list, where is Joan Rivers?
- keymastr, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Are you ***** retarded?
- LauV, on 05/29/2008, -3/+3Hillary Clinton should be nr 1, she is a joke:)
- keymastr, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2STFU you right-wing jackass. Bush = biggest joke of a president in USA history
- Gregus1032, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1he is the biggest joke... but hillary is a joke as well.
- keymastr, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2STFU you right-wing jackass. Bush = biggest joke of a president in USA history
- Encablossa, on 05/29/2008, -5/+16Sarah Silverman's has absolutely no material. It's either racism or her vagina.
- scotishstriker, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLG3S5WzHig
- nick111, on 05/29/2008, -2/+3Is it me, or are these only American?
Is this a thing like Monty Python where it takes about 15 years to catch on to what's funny about it?
Well - they may be right, but if they took a proper global sample and waited another 15 years to give them time to get the jokes - a fairly big percentage of the top 10 would be British. The Brits have got a big advantage in that they don't have to appeal to the chronically dumbed down tastes of the sorts of people that advertisers like advertising to.- nick111, on 05/29/2008, -2/+1Mind you, I've never read Maxim in my life, so what do I know.
- ericrous, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1The Brits over VASTLY overrated and full of themselves. Sure, they occasionally produce something brilliant like "The Office" (making everyone think the BBC's ***** doesn't stink). But has anyone here ever actually watched the other 99% of their "we don't have to answer to advertisers" programming--the sitcoms that can only generously be called "abysmal" and the laughably stale one-dimensional dramas?
It's the same with comedians. 99% of British comedians are complete *****--same as the U.S.
- monoa, on 05/29/2008, -2/+2The world's funniest women in the same way that the World Series is a global sport.
- Kanaka, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1I thought Wanda Sykes video was quite funny. The list seems to be based mostly on SNL comedians...which isn't an accurate representation but then again any Maxim list is about as inaccurate as you can get
- nycmac247, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4NO SUSIE ESSMAN!?!?!?!?
("Curb Your Enthusiasm")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYNrWKEEzn4 - mrevaaaaa, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1The worlds funniest digg article LOL
- kds405, on 05/29/2008, -2/+1With Sarah Silverman it's all about her delivery. I guess if you need that explained to you, you won't like her anyway.
- SuperNinja2008, on 05/29/2008, -1/+0Four that are better than all the women on that list are:
Thaila Zucchi
Amanda Bynes
Chelsea Handler
Lisa Nova - Stuie2107, on 05/29/2008, -2/+0Ok so fairly good, personally I thought Sarah Silverman was the best, I'm generally not a fan of most comediennes, women tend not to be that fuuny. One thing to note though, definitely not "WORLD'S funniest women" just USA's
- Loco801, on 05/29/2008, -4/+1Sarah Silverman ***** rules
- zetaf, on 05/29/2008, -2/+0tina fay? you gotta be joking me. This gotta be another of americans wierd sense of humour.
Beside how can they be credited as the funniest woman when it's not even their own jokes. They just read the lines and practise on it. All credits to manuscripter for creating the jokes.- Benholio, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2Which is precisely why Tina Fey would be number one, she's a writer. And you're really scraping there with the "Americans have weird humour" Im not going to assume I know where you're from, but traditionally its been the British that have the reputation for a sense of humor you need to "get" perfect example being Monty Python.
- stoolpusher, on 05/29/2008, -5/+1No Kathy Griffin?
- gerardoc, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4Nice to see Kristen Wiig on there.
- detro1tjok3r, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3She's the funniest of them all. And hot.
- monkeyrun, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3If by funny you mean annoying then, yeah Sarah Silverman is funny.
- Benholio, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3I like how Maxim describes their bumpy relationship with Fey saying they once also listed her as one of TVs least appealing ladies, but fail to mention a few years ago she was on the hot 100 list. Does anyone seriously read Maxim anymore?
- GOVStooge, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Did anyone ever read Maxim?
- holysocks, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2So only english speaking women are funny
