- bradleyland, on 12/17/2008, -1/+20Hey Onion, check your advertising affiliate network. I just got a nasty "Proantivirus 2008" pop-up while browsing your site. Fortunately, I'm not on a Windows machine.
- lowtolerance, on 12/18/2008, -1/+17Someone needs to send the onion this link
PNG vs JPG
http://lbrandy.com/blog/2008/10/my-first-and-last- ... - nervoustwit, on 12/17/2008, -11/+27I knew McCain should never have unsuspended his campaign. Look where we are now!
- otyce, on 12/17/2008, -1/+13Second to politics....
The Mustang Ranch and $750 billion bail-out.
Back in 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch
brothel in Nevada for Tax evasion and, as required by law,
tried to run it.
They failed, and it closed. Now, we are trusting the economy
of our country and 850+ Billion Dollars to a pack of nit-wits
who couldn't make money running a whore house and selling
booze.
Now if that don't make you nervous, what does??? - duffduffxx, on 12/17/2008, -2/+14i love reading the onion online at work, which is maybe part of the reason why the economy sucks
- jakash, on 12/17/2008, -2/+12What are you, 12?
- jakash, on 12/17/2008, -7/+16Dugg for McCain with a walking stick

- zeblith, on 12/17/2008, -0/+5I dunno. Whoever's in the first most popular vocation... whatever that might be?
- lava, on 12/17/2008, -1/+4Well, since the supply of looters has gone up, it means demand for your Ph D has gone down. So, your parents are laughing.
- milkshaker, on 12/18/2008, -0/+3WHO DOESNT?
- 5xSTUN, on 12/17/2008, -1/+4And that might not have clobbered the markets so badly if we'd had transparency in the credit default swap market. Once one company went belly-up, the domino effect of all that debt being called in froze the paper market, and with companies reluctant to lend money to each other, the economy is sputtering.
- inactive, on 12/18/2008, -0/+3I see what you did there.
- x060t, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3"The Onion - America's Finest News Source" - ROFL...
oh wait... - Brassbud, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3Buried as inaccurate, everyone knows zombies don't laugh...
- newmanium2001, on 12/17/2008, -1/+4It was kind of funny, but I can't help but react to the first part of that diagram again. There's this belief going around that the Fed rate was somehow the cause of the mortgage mess (and ensuing financial collapse). There was no correlation between the Fed rate and these mortgages ... these ***** loans were getting handed out because lenders were making boatloads of money by securitizing them.
http://www.harpfinancial.com/InterestRateHistory/F ... - evilhomestereo, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3Oh, there's a price. About $700 billion.
- glockman69, on 12/18/2008, -0/+2he means that they ***** up everything they put their hands on.
- mellowgreen, on 12/17/2008, -5/+7Looter is my new vocation.
Much better sounding than unemployed. - Darkaged, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2Well, what is the first most popular vocation?
- bjs3171, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2don't worry. i went ahead and reported you offensive. no problem.

- inactive, on 12/17/2008, -1/+3The solution is obvious, isn't it? Everyone needs free money.
- lowtolerance, on 12/18/2008, -0/+2I'm not your
- WibWobble, on 02/02/2009, -0/+28. Joe the Plumber cashes in on his 15 minutes, leads Warren Buffet in bank balances.
- IamNOTmrT, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1If only Doug Carlton had kept his mouth shut, we wouldn't be in this mess! (yet)
- articquad, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1Now if only we could clone Beyoncé..
- logandurand, on 12/19/2008, -0/+1Rates vs. Home Prices:

What now?
Oh, and I'm sure the crisis had nothing to do with the implicit guarantee that the government would bail out investors, or the numerous ways government tried to "encourage home ownership", or the local land use regulations that constricted the supply of houses, or any of the other wonderful government regulations that always turn out so very, very well. - inactive, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I thought The Onion was satire. Serious situations call for serious stories.
If it still is, where's the satire in this? - logandurand, on 12/19/2008, -0/+1Call it a "stimulus" or "reinvestment" plan instead.
- inactive, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1maybe the economy sucks because you have a job doing stuff that is about as productive as reading the onion.
- inactive, on 12/17/2008, -1/+2Whatever you say…
- inactive, on 12/17/2008, -1/+2Dugg for McCain temporarily saving the day.
- moofree, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1If he had suspended his campaign and fought against the bailouts, he might have won.
But alas if he had conviction, he would never have been nominated. - oolunchbox, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1seconded.
- aboundingrhythm, on 12/17/2008, -2/+3I'm conflicted. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
nervous laughter seems about right. -
