- JlmAWP, on 05/13/2008, -1/+89When I was 6 or 7, my Dad swapped out a Blockbuster rented NES for our broken one at home. To this day, the underside of the cartridge slot lid reads "BBV" in permanent marker. Anytime I see something bad about Blockbuster, all I can do is laugh, knowing that no matter what retarded things they do, I have their ***** NES.
- itsradBrad, on 05/13/2008, -1/+42Finally the Onion releases an actual true news event.
- mediaspree, on 05/13/2008, -1/+43My dad commits better crimes than your dad.
- Logal, on 05/13/2008, -0/+34Wow, how did people manage back then?
"I used to drive six miles to rent a movie"
unbelievable. - gwaggy12, on 05/13/2008, -1/+22The Onion is the only website that consistently makes me cry.
- postalblowfish7, on 05/13/2008, -1/+21stop chopping it up then.
- JlmAWP, on 05/13/2008, -0/+16Sorry for the low quality:
http://i27.tinypic.com/2ypke88.jpg - colasrtney, on 05/13/2008, -0/+11"You owe $100 in late fees."
"I HAVE YOUR ***** NES!!" - SanTe, on 05/13/2008, -0/+10Then this'll blow your mind: there was a time most people didn't have VCRs; they had to rent those from the video store as well, lug them home, realize they needed an RF modulator to connect it to their TV, trudge to Radio shack to get one, then schlep the VCR and movies back to the video store *the next day*. That's right, no multi-day rentals; everything was 24 hours. The upside was that many movies rentals were only a buck, with new releases running $2.
Before that was the dark ages when most movies simply ceased to exist after their theatrical run. - Brick86, on 05/13/2008, -2/+10Please don't post a link to an unrelated video. Submit it to see if people care.
- colasrtney, on 05/13/2008, -1/+8Imagine having to go the theater every time you wanted to watch a porno, pre-vhs.
- Nougat, on 05/13/2008, -1/+8"I, uh, I'm asking for a, uh, friend."
- Changa, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6Are you being sarcastic? I can't tell.
- JlmAWP, on 05/14/2008, -0/+6A father would have just told me "tough luck" about my NES. My DAD wanted to play some Zelda. You're damn right I'm proud of him.
Everyone does dumb stuff, Mr. Ethics. - fakekevinrose, on 05/13/2008, -0/+7I still pay for books, there's no way i'm going to read 10 chapters on a monitor.
plus books are DRM free! - DougUpndown, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5I hate BlockBuster. The TotalAccess plan is *****. I like waiting around for Netflix and waiting a whole day downloading something is my thing. I have that kind of patience.
S&M video and game rentals will be around for a long time. - inactive, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6zing

- lizlemoncello, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2The two videos are only tenuously connected. Just because it's from the onion doesn't mean it's relevant.

- hipnado, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Ditto. That looked very much like a real store. Did Blockbuster let them tape inside??
- yer0c, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1These looked like actual Blockbuster stores and employees - does that mean that Blockbuster gave permission to The Onion to do this story? If so, kudos to Blockbuster for not taking themselves too seriously.
- zdiddy85, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Stop, please. I can't stop laughing. :D
