- syphix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33I distinctly remember seeing that commercial before...and I believe it WAS on TV.
- Detritus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29This wasn't banned. This was their launch ad. The networks didn't shut them down, they made newer commercials!
This whole blurb from Davis Freeberg is straight out of his ass. - zeiben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Tivo did run with it. I remember these commercials, and if it was that long ago, they must have run a million times for me to remember them. Blurb is *****.
- junger, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21That was great. Too bad TiVo never ran with it.
- ianeng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Did they really 'ban' that commercial? I've seen it before... On TV...
- zeiben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think I know what he's referring to. Tivo used to have a blowjob module that you could use with pay-per-view. The conservative lobby pulled some strings and now - no happy endings.
- buymeabeer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Hmmm.... I guess my TV is somehow magically able to receive banned commercials! Gotta get that thing on Ebay!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Bittorrent - TV your way!
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Isn't it great how people get attention for something just by saying it was "banned?"
Coming up, more banned commentary from me, too HOT for teh 1nt3rn3ts!!!!!! - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This *was* on the air. For a number of months.
It wasn't the only one either, there was a series of commercials that followed this basic theme. At least 4 commercials, I think.
Back when I participated in the Tivo forums, we talked about it a lot after it aired, and I do believe there was a thread pointing out appearances of the ad so those of us who had recorded those shows could find and see it. - Dawneb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think most sci-fi fans would agree with tossing network execs out of windows.
- ddomanski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Huh? Exactly what "better options and features" was TiVo "forced" to strip? Nothing of any significance that I'm aware of (and having owned TiVos almost from the beginning).
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Ugh. I saw this commercial a few times on TV. Burying as inaccurate.
- PORTAL45, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This is for all my Firefly bretheren :-(
*pours '40' on network execs face* - TEMM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I dont think I have EVER seen a commercial posted on Digg that has ACTUALLY been banned anywhere.
- VeryAngryJim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm fairly sure I saw it myself too.
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've seen this on TV too. I remember them throwing the guy out of the window.
- Recluse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Regardless of the accuracy of the title I'm digging this because it's funny and it's the first time I've ever seen it.
- Dmatias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Most people did not see it because they just fast forward through it on their tivo
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It reminds me of writing a story one sentence at a time with a bunch of other people and then some jackass keeps killing people when it's his turn or making stupid plot twists that make it impossible for the rest of you to make the story entertaining.
- pgudge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3funny, but the best TiVo related ad/short has to be the bluemoon one

And here's an example of Tivo suing to hold back technicals advances in the marketplace that would benefit the customer and offer some market choices.

There's a few links to have fun with. Not that I really care. There's not much worth tivo'ing on television anyway, and the internet is way more fun. - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Lost is made up as it goes
- Chesterfield, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The ad ran on TV. However I do recall there were protests from some squeaky wheels in the broadcast industry, and it made headlines.
- AndreGerber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wow. Are all adds in America that funny? Here in South Africa the adds are so boring. They JUST give you information about the product. There are some good ones, like one where the secretary wins the Lotto and her boss calls her in to take notes and then she mocks him and shows him a winning lotto ticket. It probably does not sound very amusing in writing, but it is. Anyway, the point is that adds are never very interesting here. I just switch channels when an add comes on (but we only have 4 channels to choose from anyway, if you don't have satellite TV).
- ShivaOritiner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've never seen this commercial on tv (because I dvr most everything I watch and fast foward through the commercials), but it was very funny.
- thunderfrenchie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, this was not banned. Ran on network TV. The ad agency was Goodby Silverstein in San Fran.
- DigitalBrian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I saw that on TV, it was never banned *lol*
- tylerdurdenclub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why did they not show that? Who would be opposed to that? People For Ethical Treatment of TV Execs?
- HeyThereTaylor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2On demand access is the future. i love this commerical
- TonySki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember seeing this on TechTv.
- Fluidity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why was it banned? Did they think it might start a series of copycat attacks with people throwing programmers out of windows? I know Amercian adverts are often lame in comparison to the UK ones as we can get away without a lot more but surely just having someone thrown out a window can't be enough to pull an advert off TV for.
- stevenwest13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This commercial was aired on TV. I remember seeing it myself and loved every minute of it.
- treehead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
- treehead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly why I dugg this. There *needs* to be a Bit Torrent spoof of this.
- KicktheDonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm glad you found the bury button. Now, how about you just press the damn thing, and NOT tell us why/how you're going to do it...
- funkonomics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this was absolutely on tv before
i tivo'd it - AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love how "banned" still means instant digg.
By the way, I saw this commercial on TV. In 1999-2000 TiVo did a lot of infomercials to get the word out and I saw this on one of those. They also had a show that your TiVo would record in the wee hours on TLC or Discovery Channel, I think it was called TiVo Takes, that also showed you all the new commercials. This was before most anyone knew what a TiVo was. - bshock, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It's a cute commercial, right up until they mention TiVo at the end. If you've watched the TiVo situation at all over the years, you realize that this company has done its share of docilely fellating the entertainment industry.
Forget TiVo. (I'd suggest you forget anything made in Hollywood as well, but no one's going to listen.) Download your tv shows. Watch whatever you want, whenever you want, and keep it for as long as you want. - rkolter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Buried as innacurate. Not only not banned, but ironically, I happened to catch it on my vcr.
- bightchee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I had the same thought.
- Negyxo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1OMG BANNED! IT MUST BE SUPER AWESOME!
come on peoples. - bibendum, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This commercial was all over TV.
Time to bury. - thegreenone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yeah, I remember this one on TV. Title is BS
- mlegge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Bury this inaccurate crap guys. This commercial was on for quite some time before they came out with new commercials.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Lost has no core story arch. It makes it that much more fun!
Btw, it starts up February sometime. - happyperson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2and its also to bad that TV execs can still hold a writer to ransom and force him to write way more series than he ever wanted to and so forcing him to through out the core story arch leaving the audience with no definitive conclusions. On an unrelated matter when does Lost start back up?
- syphix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Who the hell is "digging" this video??? It's inaccurate! jeez..
- freff, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6Awsome ad. Too bad tivo's been forced strip a bunch of its better options and features and they sold out to the networks afterall.
- d17182, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Dugg down- innacurate.
Summary implies this ad was never aired.
I saw this ad on TV. -
