I had nothing knowledgeable to say.. - smashhell, on 12/03/2008, -3/+71Where is the Virtual Boy ?
That "thing" is the most retarded console released imo.
Oh, and it's from Nintendo. - rowjimmy, on 12/03/2008, -0/+39virtua boy tennis was sweet. until you had a grand mal seizure.
- GeeksSpeakFont, on 12/03/2008, -2/+38Fairchild Channel F is just a terrible name for a gaming console period.
- LanceUppercut, on 12/03/2008, -0/+34I wanted one of these so bad, but my dad came home with a PS1 instead, told me the virtual boy looked stupid.
Boy was he right :) - MPSinclair, on 12/03/2008, -1/+34The Nomad was actually pretty sweet. You could just use the AC adapter, or if you were in a vehicle, you could use the kind that plugs into a cigarette lighter. It was nice not needing two copies of one game to travel with.
- moredown, on 12/03/2008, -6/+37you forgot one... http://tinyurl.com/5zfvyy
- sprotacular, on 12/03/2008, -0/+24Huh? Saturn preceded the dreamcast, yo.
- pe5t1lence, on 12/03/2008, -0/+24What ever, to this day I still want a Nomad!
- frepnog, on 12/03/2008, -1/+24that is why there is an alternator in the car, you very smart person.
in other words... no, it doesn't. - mwalker05, on 12/03/2008, -0/+23***** it...
- Klisk, on 12/03/2008, -0/+22I actually loved my Nomad!
I never put batteries in it, however. I strictly used it with a power AC adapter.
Sound pointless? Not really. I mean, no... It wasn't truly portable in the sense of what we have now, but with the car and AC adapter you could at least plug the damn thing in no matter where you brought it. Which, at the time, was a whole lot better than carrying around a full Genesis console. - mikewill7seven, on 12/03/2008, -2/+24Glad I never got a Sega Nomad. At the time it made my Gameboy look like a piece of *****. I instead traded my Gameboy for a PXL-2000. For the younger Diggers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PXL-2000
- Deadpixel1221, on 12/03/2008, -0/+19So what's changed?
- CasinoJack, on 12/03/2008, -1/+21I'd also add the Virtual Boy, N-Gage and Gizmondo to that list.
- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 12/03/2008, -0/+20Dugg for nostalgia.
- 3Den, on 12/03/2008, -0/+19The vectrex was absolutely not retarded.. it used real vector graphics!
Perhaps it's just a nostalgia thing.. and perhaps the author isnt' old enough to recall Battlezone and Asteroids and other games with vector-based displays - but the vectrex was an awesome little unit. - ironhide, on 12/03/2008, -0/+19Buried for calling the Vectrex "retarded" - it is a great system and still in high demand for collectors. All the original games were put in to the public domain by GCE and there are many high-quality homebrew games available.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+18Sounds like a child porn distribution network.
- scabbers, on 12/03/2008, -0/+17The Vectrex was a good system.
- FBMGriever, on 12/03/2008, -1/+18I detected no sarcasm there, sir.
- blackrave, on 12/03/2008, -1/+18Video on audio cassettes? Awesome.
- deaftly, on 12/03/2008, -0/+16The Channel F is based on the Fairchild F8 CPU, invented by Robert Noyce before he left Fairchild to start his own company, Intel.
Thats pretty friggin cool at least. - inactive, on 12/03/2008, -1/+17It was portable if you strapped it to your head with Velcro. Apparently red also equals virtual.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 12/03/2008, -0/+15I don't care what they say, the Vectrex was awesome.
- Trax91, on 12/03/2008, -0/+14I remember the Magnavox console require you to put up this screen with the Pong GUI drawn on it with the console connected.
- supersonicjim, on 12/03/2008, -0/+14The Dreamcast isn't 'retarded' you child molester.
- Noremac, on 12/03/2008, -0/+14My brother won and gave me a nomad when I was 10. I really don't get what everyone's problem is. It's a freakin portable sega genesis! I still have it to this day and it still plays just fine. Who cares if you had to plug it in. It was the ***** back in the day. I've never met anyone who has ever owned one.
Screw all you haters. I'm going to go super sonic it up right now. - brett1337, on 12/03/2008, -0/+13wow sega is such an awesome company!
- badtzmartin, on 12/03/2008, -0/+13We actually had a Fairchild. We got an Intellivision a little later, and the Fairchild was sold at a garage sale.
I also remember coveting the Vectrex. - bobthegreat1224, on 12/03/2008, -0/+13I owned one Gameboy from each generation up through the Advance SP, and my Nomad would have beat the crap out of every last one of them if not for one tragic event...
My brother and I saved up to buy one, and for a time it was the coolest thing on the face of the Earth, until THE SECOND FREAKING DAY WE OWNED IT he dropped it, breaking the contrast button and rendering the screen unusable. I was 9 at the time, so there was no way I was going to figure out how to pop off the proprietary screws and fix it. It became my backup Genesis after the console failed.
I'm still pissed at my brother for that. - Dentid4Hed, on 12/03/2008, -0/+13Let's not forget the Phantom, the console Duke Nukem Forever will be coming out on any minute now.
- Morph_Ball, on 12/03/2008, -0/+13The Sega Nomad was awesome. I still want one. As far as the batteries, yeah, that sucked, but I can beat Sonic 3 with all emeralds in under an hour, so whatever.
It also used the same AC adapter as the Genesis, which I always thought was kinda interesting. It was also able to have another controller plugged into it for multiplayer, and you could still hook the thing into a TV. The thing kicked ass. - twiztidsinz, on 12/03/2008, -3/+16(That's Spanish for "grand bad seizure")
- vertigo32, on 12/03/2008, -0/+12I remember seeing pallets of Virtual Boys bundled with a half-dozen games priced at $19.99 in Target and Meijer.
- bassman626, on 12/03/2008, -0/+12trash it...
- Jektal, on 12/03/2008, -2/+14The "virtual" came from the stereoscopic vision and 3D graphics. Which, combined with that red, caused massive problems (like, medical) in users. Which is why it was pulled.
Which is why it should have been on this list. - aelias, on 12/03/2008, -0/+12Vectrex Asteroids>Any other version.
- LogicBomB, on 12/03/2008, -0/+11One time a friend of mine was playing his Virtual Boy and I got bored (not being able to see does that...) so I covered him in about 4 feet of laundry, chairs, pillows, etc...
He didn't want to lose so he never moved. Wish I had a picture :( - t1ckt0ck, on 12/03/2008, -0/+11I remember I had a Virtual Boy. It had some pretty fun games on it. One that comes to mind was the Wario game that was released for it. The only complaint I had about the system was it was a horrible design. It was uncomfortable to use, having to hunch over to use it was a pain. Also, and this was stupid on our part, we couldn't locate the volume control on it. So we honestly thought it was a flaw in the product so we ended up taping cotton over the speakers to muffle the sound so that it wasn't so loud... About a year after owning it, I found the little tiny dial for the volume control and had a face palm moment.
- buffyangel108, on 12/03/2008, -1/+12Nope, Dreamcast followed Saturn ;)
- LongShlong, on 12/03/2008, -0/+10Yes.
- Demener, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9Not only did I have the Virtual Boy I played Glactic Pinball and Red Alarm quite a bit. Played a little Mario Tower as well.
It should be noted Nintendo did not get my money again until the Wii. - Xibby, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9I had a DC adapter for the nomad. Keep the battery pack on it just in case the DC power plug falls out, and it went for hours. I don't remember having it freeze up if shaken. I actually still have the thing somewhere.
You could even connect a Genesis Controller to it and play two player games. Unfortunately, the 1p controller was the unit itself so you really had to like Player2 as they would be looking over your shoulder to see the screen.
The other cool part is that it could be connected to a TV and used as a normal Sega Genesis, except that the Player1 controller was the Nomad itself.
Overall, the Nomad was really close to being a great system. - oamster, on 12/03/2008, -1/+10I grew up playing NES and the Genesis. It pisses me off when this generation thinks everything before the Xbox 360 and PS3 were *****. NES, SNES, and the Genesis are my roots.
Am I wrong for getting pissed when people call the 360 "xbox" and the xbox "xbox 1"? - Dumbledorito, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9FTA: "Vectrex, being the top engineers they were, come up with a brilliant solution to this problem: include several thin sheets of colored plastic with the system, so people could just lay them over the screen to give it some color. No, seriously."
Uh, just like was done in the arcades for several vector games.
And vector games were awesome. "Tac-Scan" and the original "Space Wars" are two I'd still gladly pump quarters into today. - missingnoh4x, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9I've played a Vectrex before, it's a pretty neat system despite all its bizarre attributes. Plenty of fun games.
- pstroll, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9CD-i was the worst system of any and all time
- crgnetworks, on 12/03/2008, -1/+9***** YOU! The Nomad was sweet, especially on road trips. I still play it!
- DarkAoi, on 12/03/2008, -5/+13Buried as stupid. Letting a 5-year old retarded kid write about the most retarded consoles in history is retarded....
SEGA NOMAD was a portable Genesis. He probably means the GAME GEAR, a completely different and inferior console. The screenshot is clearly from GAME GEAR, so I'm not sure if the author was stupid enough as to think that a Genesis and Game Gear are the same thing or he simply googled "classic sonic screenshot". It's like saying the Super Nintendo sucks and putting up a screenshot of Punch-out for NES. Or, for you guys who grew up in the PS2-era, it's like putting a screenshot of Metal Gear Solid for PlayStation and saying "oh no look at the horrid graphics of the PS2".
Kids these days... -
