- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+71Personally, I'd love a way to "un-fan" someone, or at least hide their fan entries. I have about two hundred fans in my queue, most of them either haters or asian ring-tone spammers. Legitimate friends tend to get lost in the spam.
- staffell, on 12/03/2008, -3/+67I have 1 friend on digg, and he is my actual friend. You know, like real life.
I don't feel the need to make faux online friends just in the hope that they can help get...oooooh....my story to frontpage! - eco57, on 12/03/2008, -0/+56#6 - They should have a relatively low friends/fans ratio.
#7 - Check comments. They should say more than "Awesome!" or "***** RIAA" - Hetman, on 12/03/2008, -3/+50Damn I have a problem. I have over 8k comments on digg. And the sad part is 99.9% of them make absolutly no sense. I never really realized this until now. And looking at other people they have like 1k at the most. I have the most easy and boring job in the world. Thank-God for digg.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -2/+45I am enjoying the sweet humor of a guy with over 300 "friends" posting an article about the rules on friending.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -1/+37That's right, bitches. I don't have a picture, stay away.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+36Yeah, that was confusing to me as well. Cuz really hot chicks usually spend most of their time on internet sites making friends with anonymous losers.
- docksquad33, on 12/03/2008, -7/+42hah this is perfect for me. i personally didn't know the rules. thanks
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -1/+336. Don't add someone who can't take a ***** joke now and then.
- FelixDrylock, on 12/04/2008, -1/+31but seriously though, ***** those RIAA *****.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -3/+33KILL IT WITH FIRE!!
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+29I hadn't paid attention until I read your comment. I have 537 "fans". I would love to be able to un-fan them as well.
- FriedTurkey, on 12/04/2008, -2/+28I have been using Digg almost every day for a couple of years. Never got into the digg friend thing. That's what Facebook is for. Never bothered with a pic because you can't see what the hell anyones pic is anyway. Like what the hell is sungoddess808 or cpdylan icon right above me? Digg isn't social networking. They should just stick to interesting websites.
- identitymatrix, on 12/04/2008, -2/+27You know the rules and so do I
- mongo22, on 12/03/2008, -3/+26Very funny and true stuff. Haha, I've always wondered about the diggers with hot pics. Who knew they were Asian spammers. :)
- Huangism, on 12/03/2008, -1/+20what does it mean when someone becomes your fan? i mean i have these emails coming to me saying so and so has become my fan. well that's great and all but i don't now them not to mention becoming their fan?
- CharlesSaint, on 12/04/2008, -1/+18My rule:
If you send me a friend request, and I check your profile and you joined digg less than one month ago and have 100+ friends; you're not getting a request back from me. - sungoddess808, on 12/04/2008, -2/+19?? 2) Do not add any friends that are women..
I'm sure your reasoning for that in some cases are true, but there are women Digg users, myself included. Sorry to disappoint you. - doiveo, on 12/03/2008, -1/+18#n - if you add somebody, demonstrate immediately that you are going to Digg their stuff.
#n+1 - look at their mutual friends. I have added people that don't qualify for the first 5 because a person I respect is a mutual friend already.
#n+2 - add only a few a day. Anyone that adds over 10 people is probably a spammer.
#n+3 - wait at least a month before adding anyone and wait at least two months before adding an article.
#n+4 - Add friends you genuinely like to read - sort of the point but it lost on many people hungry for digg sway. - heybeevo, on 12/03/2008, -0/+15now I feel like I need to add a picture to my profile......
- Huangism, on 12/03/2008, -1/+15o no another one has become my fan just now... probably because of above post. What do i do!!!?
- KaiserArny, on 12/03/2008, -1/+14This is a great list. Too bad I had to learn all of this the hard way. It's a shame for all the good Asian Diggers that the spammers are giving them a bad name.
- poddys, on 12/03/2008, -1/+14Shame about the Philippines, but you have to admit that much of the junk mail originates there...
I thought this was a good article. - hoptis, on 12/04/2008, -1/+13I've met so many hot women for random hookups on Digg I've deleted my Adult Match Maker account.
- BrettFromTibet, on 12/03/2008, -0/+12I beware the guys from India with no icon.... 90% chance of "Discount Mortgage" shouts!
- doiveo, on 12/03/2008, -1/+12I did that totally wrong.
$n = FindOtherDiggersLastValue();
$DiggArr = array(
"if you add somebody, demonstrate immediately that you are going to Digg their stuff.",
"look at their mutual friends. I have added people that don't qualify for the first 5 because a person I respect is a mutual friend already.",
"add only a few a day. Anyone that adds over 10 people is probably a spammer.",
"wait at least a month before adding anyone and wait at least two months before adding an article.",
"Add friends you genuinely like to read - sort of the point but it lost on many people hungry for digg sway.");
foreach ($DiggArr as $key => $item) {
$n++;
echo "#" $n " - $item \n";
} - bagboyrebel, on 12/04/2008, -1/+12The friend + shout system is, in my opinion, one of the worst things digg has ever added. It's more about a popularity contest to get stories to the front page than it is about actual content.
- LAMinator, on 12/04/2008, -0/+11I want some friends. Guess I'll have to waste 40 seconds to upload a clever picture so people can see that I'll be a good friend.
- iofthestorm, on 12/04/2008, -0/+11#8 - Don't spread five item lists over three pages, it's retarded. Oh, wait...
Seriously, this article was obviously written to get to the front page of digg and get tons of ad impressions. He's an SEOing bastard just like the people he's complaining about. - VitriolAndAngst, on 12/04/2008, -3/+13Most of my points make lots of sense -- but get dugg down.
However, I do have a few High digg count comments, but they are usually one liners with "booby" somewhere in the sentence. This comment is no exception. - inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+9#6: Skip anyone who has a profile comment that says "Digg my shouts and I'll digg yours!!!" as if they just discovered an amazing new use for the Digg Share button.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 12/04/2008, -0/+9Wouldn't legitimate friends be found in the mutual friends section?
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9.....Ironic.
- oblique63, on 12/04/2008, -0/+8***** that, we should just form our own circle of faceless lazy assed bastard friends...
- fiver22, on 12/03/2008, -0/+8Here I am, brain the size of the Universe, and I still don't grok Digg's "friend" system.
- LoveYouSomeEric, on 12/04/2008, -0/+8Really? That shade of blue as a link text color on that background?
- StewMeat, on 12/03/2008, -0/+8I guess I am pretty much rule number 5 eh Linguo? wait a second.. is that name foreign?!?!
- sgtbutterscotch, on 12/04/2008, -0/+7wow, you're kind of a jerk ;)
- bearcat8543, on 12/04/2008, -0/+7what happens if the pic i added was the default pic?
- Linguo, on 12/03/2008, -1/+8Can I be your friend? ha!
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -6/+13Wow you sound like you're better than everyone! I want to be like you!
- xXIrsotehkewlXx, on 12/04/2008, -0/+7We want friends too. :(
- abrasion, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6Absoloutely correct, I have several 'fans' in my list who I'm pretty sure just use it to track my posts, one or two of them actually seem to like what I have to say, yet mysteriously several of my posts which are quite tame, on topic and fairly relevant get buried to the high heavens.
Very, very close to just giving up on the digg comment system, it has a terrible terrible layout anyhow :/ - VitriolAndAngst, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6You can click the link to their profile and "un-friend" them I believe.
Oh -- you mean someone is a fan of yours and you want to hide from them?
Perhaps you need to add some comments like "Need to grow or shrink something? I know a great website..." - inactive, on 12/04/2008, -1/+7I love digg, but the whole "fan" concept is something I wish I could opt out of. I tried to keep others from becoming my "fan", but failing that, I chose to take a more negative approach to this thing. Unfan me, or I"ll bury every one of your submissions, and spam the ***** out of your submission's comment section, telling others to bury it too. I don't want "friends" here on digg, it's just one more chance to get unwanted spam messages. I've had fair success with this method, but there are still a few hangers-on that I can't get rid of.
- matrim2217, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6#4 Really? Too lazy to put up a picture that comes up as a 1/4" x 1/4" icon means they're not friend-worthy? You can't even see the goddamn things 99% of the time.
- nutvoot, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6This comment goes on top of your 8k+ comments. If your stat's correct. This one doesn't make sense.
- zuiquan, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6Son of a bitch! I've got one of those unpronounceable names. Now what the hell am I going to do with all of this spam I've got sitting here?
- clawzkatt, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6Haha
I dont even have any friends.
hiss! -
