Little hands! Stupid hair. Little hands! Cutting myself. - tsunamitomi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41I'm sure we all know someone like this: My friend will only listen to music from artists who haven't made it yet. When someone finds out about one of the bands he listens or hears them on the radio he freaks out and won't listen to them anymore. To him a band is only worth listening to if no one else knows about them.
I keep telling him that he should be happy that the music he likes is now being listened to by thousands of people... but for some reason he just likes to listen to the music that no one else can hear...like it's some kind of secret club.
Anyways I find great similarity to this video...My buddy always talks about how he liked ______(insert new band here) so much better when they were underground....to me it all sounds the same. - squeevey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29there is a little truth to your friend's statement. You go big and you start to change your sound so you can get MORE people to listen to you. In the beginning you didn't care about who listened.
- Diancechet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18I just can't get over the emo prairie dog. That is an absolute classic.
- chatwithaninja, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19The video was funny until this part... then it was hilarious. I'm going to be saying that all day.
- dheaddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Damn this is so true it hurts. It pisses me off when people think they have a better taste in music than you because of the obscurity of the bands they listen to.
- creep303, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19People like that obviously have no concept of what they like. They just are so wrapped up in being trendy, they don't even know if what they're listening to is even what they like.
OH NOES! MY INDIE CREDIBILITY IS AT STEAK (spelling intended)
Like, get a ***** life, it doesn't matter if you like a band and other people do. Get over your pseudo-cool exterior and take the hair out of your eyes and be yourself for once in your life. - JamesBrown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Like N*Sync for example
- Inspired12, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12john cage 4'33 pretty underground
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14That is so kevin rose.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13I just want to say right now before anyone makes the mistake that annoys me soooo frickin much....!
These are AUSSIE, Not BRITISH
If anyone makes a comment about 'ohhh i cant stand british humour' or some freakin thing relating us to brits, im gonna CRACK! - WanderLink, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Released a song as a word document, that was hilarious. And the emo prairie dog thing at the end was just as funny as the whole skit.
- offwithyourtv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@JamesBrown
Excellent point, except that N*Sync isn't exactly a "band." Perhaps Linkin Park illustrates your point more accurately. Digging your comment, nonetheless. - calebcharles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's their acoustic album.
- Azimuth1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"English ***** Britain"
"English mother *****! Do you speak it! ***** brits"
Wow, reading the comments on YouTube gives me a really good impression of Americans and their knowledge of the world. Particularly of their knowledge of what country Australian accents come from. - arbulus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7too true.
You made my day right there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6emos.
- elainykins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I do support it when "underground" bands get more notice and fame, I mean it's what they want! But I will say that it's really annoying when I've been listening to a band for years now, and then one day out of the blue my friend who once listened to mainstream pop music all of a sudden is listening to them too. They wouldn't listen to them when I first did, but now that those bands are "cool" and "in," they do... Anyone know what I mean? I mean rock and alternative music have been out there forever, and some people have followed it since they were in elementary school... and then there are some people who don't know anything about music and have been listening to pop music their whole life until recently, when "indie" music and style has become more popular, those people now listen to the music you do, but it's not like they... have any credibility, and you don't want to be grouped with them. I don't know, I guess I'm an elitist pig.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There are a few bands who go mainstream and become crappy thereafter. Gob and The Offspring come to mind. If a band puts out a record then they're not really underground at all, so I wouldn't have considered either of them underground to begin with.
- arbulus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I didn't know people even knew what ska is anymore. Tell your average teenager today that you're into ska and i'm sure they'll look at you with a blank stare having no idea what you're talking about.
I was never a big fan though of pure ska. I kinda dug it when a band was more punk and incorporated some ska sound, but i was never really down with the pure non punk ska. expecially the ska kids who would tear you a new ***** if you grouped ska and punk together, like it was some sort of insult. - seanherman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5There's a great "performance" and explanation of 4'33 here for those curious or confused
http://www.soundnet.org/concerts/mov_refs/2002.shtml#cage - Emilio8605, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's pretty hardcore.
- TomRemixed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dugg for Strokes poster in the background. I have that shirt.
I like a lot of non-mainstream bands but it isn't anything real obscure. I think that one of the most annoying things people can do is to say a band sold out. A few Modest Mouse fans I know didn't even listen to the new album because they became "too popular." I like to stick with bands. - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just get Captain Beefheart's "Trout Mask Replica"...it's so underground, Frank Zappa approves.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you listened to real metal, it would all be underground. Unless you mean "metal" such as The Used or Dead Poetic or some other lame emo trying to be metal.
And all music follows rules, included true metal. Otherwise, no one could give anything a genre.
Unless you're, you know, underground. - Antebios, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can Morrissey still be considered underground?
- hello_world, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the strokes rock.
- alive1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I listen to underground metal because once they become popular, something bad happens, and they now not only need to please their own urge to be musically creative, but also the preferences and expectations of their fans and the label they're signed to.
I like music that doesn't follow rules. - namtellum, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Agreed. I was about to digg it untill I saw the end. The word document part is still funny tho.
- bethebryant, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4loved the clip, but hate whining bitch boy Aussie's who have to tell everyone when something is Aussie.
go beat off to crocodile dundee aussie prick - squeevey, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I LOVE THAT TRACK!!!
It's never the same everytime.
/am i serious? I don't know. - psiDevil98, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5That guy that pops up at the end is just uncalled for.
- rad4Christ, on 10/12/2007, -14/+8Yeah, a ska band by the name Five Iron Frenzy wrote a song that fits this ideology perfectly.
A snippet: "You found them first, it made you stand apart, you know? But then everyone jumped on the same bandwagon, making you an average Joe, A lemming for the mediocre, you were just a plain old joker status quo. Blame it on the band now. If you pick them do they bleed? What's the point in playing what they want, if you won't let them succeed?"
And if you like ska, here's the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvkCMzjoh0A - CptCancer, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4@rad4Christ
Ska isn't music, it's torture.
