- AmyVernon, on 12/26/2008, -2/+168Strangely, the customers always find themselves hungrier after they leave .
- lrony, on 12/27/2008, -1/+120It's a high end restaurant.
- sat0shi, on 12/27/2008, -2/+69Looks like it's a place to drink hemp tea... if there is such a thing. I am just going by my Japanese knowledge but the characters are the same.
麻 = hemp
葉 = leaf
茶 = tea
館 = building, place, etc., etc. - naturalpapa, on 12/26/2008, -2/+68I'd like some mixed greens...
- pintomp3, on 12/27/2008, -1/+63It's a pretty nice joint.
- vivvivtzz, on 12/27/2008, -8/+55do they cook in pots, with pot, or both? with herbs? weed a nice place, i should take my friend mary jane there, maybe meet some buds, after a few rounds on the greens. if the place burned down it'd go up in smoke..
- hocusposus, on 12/26/2008, -7/+53Looks like business is up in smoke.
- themoop, on 12/27/2008, -1/+32dugg for "since 1999"
- CrotchCrusader, on 12/27/2008, -2/+31"Cannabis is a schedule 2 narcotic in Taiwan, and possession can result in up to 3 years imprisonment."
And I though losing my license and having a criminal record for life was bad...
"Cannabis is a prohibited drug under Russian law. In Dec 2003, personal possession of up to 20 g of cannabis was legalized."
But we still have more draconian laws than Russia... hmm... - ricoboy24, on 12/27/2008, -4/+31I like weed
- ryan83189, on 12/27/2008, -0/+26What can't you make with hemp?
- SyntaxErrors, on 12/27/2008, -0/+25I see what you.... I see what you did th.... I see... Oh ***** it.
- theDarkGamer, on 12/27/2008, -1/+26"Man, that is some flagrant false advertising!"
-Otto - bmonet, on 12/27/2008, -1/+24Looks like a great place to take some buds.
- Hurricane, on 12/27/2008, -0/+22Best business plan ever :D
- davethe1st, on 12/27/2008, -3/+24Looks like a swell joint.
- bballbackus, on 12/27/2008, -0/+19I hate to be blunt, but the food smells like skunk.
- keenkumar, on 12/27/2008, -0/+19yeah you can make tea with hemp
- sat0shi, on 12/27/2008, -1/+19I'm sure you can make tea out of just about anything... Whether or not it tastes good is a completely different matter. I've just never heard of drinking hemp tea, although it could be common in China I don't know. I've never seen it here in Japan.
- SGrace575, on 12/27/2008, -0/+16There are a lot of restaurants like this, you just have to weed out the good ones.
- BossKey, on 12/27/2008, -0/+16Weed better check it out.
- deathfix, on 12/27/2008, -0/+15Be careful what you ask for. You might get stoned.
- treas, on 12/27/2008, -0/+15MAN OH MAN I AM COOL WITH MY STEREOTYPES I AM TOO STONED TO REALIZE WHY YOU USED BTW INSTEAD OF BETWEEN.
- northernmunky, on 12/27/2008, -0/+15This is the conversation I just had with my Taiwanese wife:
Me: 麻葉茶館!
Her: what about it?
Me: ....the name of the shop.....
Her: so?
Me: The tea shop is called Marihuana!
Her: Nooo, its not, no one would think that.. it's just a name!
Me: Its called Marihuana?... you know drugs? smoke a joint..etc? ...and theres a picture of a Marihuana leaf? How can you not make this connection?
Her: You westerners are strange....
So basically she's saying that most Taiwanese people would have no idea it had anything whatsoever to do with class C drugs.
Anyway this all pales in comparison to 'Modern Toilet' in Taipei.. where literally everyone eats out of the toilet:

- euphoria860, on 12/27/2008, -1/+12the title clearly states its in Taiwan.
- urbano35, on 12/27/2008, -0/+11That's just the way they roll I suppose...
- billyswong, on 12/27/2008, -0/+10From their website http://www.marihuana.com.tw/main1_2.htm (thanks SupaJay for the web address):
麻葉是由一位喜歡抽大麻的老闆所一手創造出來的…………………….
當然是開玩笑的啦!!!!!
- Translation -
Hemp Leaf is founded by a boss who love smoking pot.........................
Joking of course!!!!!

This restaurant seems to be named as such intentionally. - Hurricane, on 12/27/2008, -0/+10Dear leetninja, roxgod666 & Baronvontito1,
Please learn how to communicate like human beings.... then suck my right nut and die.
Sincerely,
Hurricane - kvgirard, on 12/27/2008, -0/+10why what did she do wrong?
- roxgod666, on 12/27/2008, -2/+11Dude, you just wrote a 3 paragraph long comment. Shut up
- Halsfield, on 12/27/2008, -0/+7not sure why someone dugg you down, most asian countries are extremely harsh with their drug offenders, even moreso than we are. china went around and started killing anyone found in opium dens to solve their opium problem. japan is a little better but not a whole lot.
- poopdigger, on 12/27/2008, -0/+7My acute visual senses tell me that there is a picture of a marijuana leaf right next to the letters...
- ledguitar, on 12/27/2008, -1/+8Everyone is impressed that you know a strain of weed
- volume909, on 12/27/2008, -1/+8I like turtles
- Baronvontito1, on 12/27/2008, -0/+7Dear leetninja,
***** you sideways.
Sincerely,
BaronVonTito - Halsfield, on 12/27/2008, -2/+9we're digging anything with the word marijuana on it now ?
- aznpwnzor, on 12/27/2008, -0/+6well see it's an asian country they're interchangeable when we speak american
- edebolt, on 12/27/2008, -2/+8very difficult to find any Taiwan. it's very illegal.
- Chainheart2, on 12/27/2008, -0/+5"It's funny" needs to end.. I would much rather keep "can it run Crysis" or excessive references to pedobear than that *****
- Fatcheeseguy, on 12/27/2008, -3/+8OM NOM NOM NOM ..... hahahahahahahahahaahhaahahahhahahahhaha ...... Zzzzzzzz....
- ClevelandBrown, on 12/27/2008, -0/+5@leetninja
you are exactly the type of person who needs to use some marijuana. - edebolt, on 12/27/2008, -0/+5tell me about it... I live in Thailand and if you get caught it's not pretty. Laos and Cambodia it's corrupt enough that MJ is okay but except to pay bribes if caught. As you mention all the other Asian countries are very strict. Especially southern asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Philipines. Korea(s), China, Japan take it very seriously. In South Western China like Yunnan province it's popular with young hip crowd but still expect to pay bribes if caught or if your an expat then deportation.
- flamesrule, on 12/27/2008, -1/+6Stoner's Pot Palace is next door.
- ledguitar, on 12/27/2008, -0/+5Anything mildly weed related is almost guaranteed to hit the front page. And any comment in which poster makes a reference to them being high automatically gets dugg. I'm not anti-weed and i smoke it very often, but I agree, this is just ridiculous.
- SupaJay, on 12/27/2008, -4/+8Not very helpful, but here is the official site.
http://www.marihuana.com.tw/
and They have Branches like Marihuana Cafe, and Marihuana Pizza.
I am Taiwanese, so I probably can sue them for False advertisement! - ism70605, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4Both are correct; marihuana is the less common spelling.
"marijuana |ˌmarəˈ(h)wänə| (also marihuana)
noun
cannabis, esp. as smoked in cigarettes." - Halsfield, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3it hurts trying to get my brain around the thought process people have when they're digging these articles. "tee hee hee it says marijuana, hey, i smoke that! DUGG!"
at least with most of the bacon articles its a new recipe with bacon, or pictures of bacon looking delicious. would a sign with the word bacon on it make it this far i wonder ? -
