- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39next he needs to build a giant shoe to crush it with.
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33All he needs to do now is put an attachment on it to shoot big fireballs.

Potholes most certainly can be caused by vehicles and are not ONLY caused by temperature change. Potholes form all over the world, including tropical places where the temperature never drops below 32. - superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -19/+48Pot holes are not created by vehicles, but by expansion and contraction from heating and cooling. In the areas of the world where it gets below 32 degrees is water gets into these cracks, and freezes and expands, disintigrating asphalt as it goes.
Sorry about the smart ass moment, but I had to point it out. - Stiverton, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Looks like the crazy spider machine from Wild Wild West.
- lemon67, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24i ***** want one
- buzzedlightyear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21that looks painfully uncomfortable.
- edilclyde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18"what would a traffic jam of these look like?"
i dont know how it will look but i know it will sound really noisy - a1lostnomad, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I have some improvements... rubber feat, machine gun, rocket launcher, and roof. Get these thing included and I'm in.
- halavais, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Looks to me like the slipping is pretty much necessary, especially for turning.
- f8pc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19 Yeah, that thing is really jerky. They also need some rubber pads because it is really loud and annoying and the metal disks look like they slip a lot.
- greymaxcat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19Looks like they still have a few bugs to work out... Get it... Bugs... its a spider car... bugs... Oh come on, thats funny...
- PabloIV, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I live in Puerto Rico, where the temperature will never get anywhere near 32 degrees and we've got potholes out the wazoo. Moderately sure it's not Ice doing that.
- Catchpen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Toilet plungers would work perfect.
- oxdeltaxo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12He could make the jerkiness less unpleasant if he put some sort of stabilizers in the drivers compartment, put it on shock absorbers or something. I totally agree with the rubber pads idea, those metal footings he has offer very little traction.
- superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13@ all responses
Pot holes are mostly formed by temperature changes, in tropical areas, where the temperature can vary from 90-95 in the day to 50 in the night, that is a large enough change in 12 hours to cause significant cracking. When this builds up over time, certain parts may become rubblish, and can be pulled apart by cars traveling over it.
Sometimes, potholes will form if the road isn't laid well as well.
When I was talking about the freezing, I was referring to a phenomenon that accelerates the appearance of potholes. It is amazing how a road can be freshly paved with inches worth of asphalt in the spring, by that day next year, that road will have thousands of cracks, and 10's of hundreds of potholes, some incredibly large. I think it is fairly safe to say that places like upstate New York get potholes the worst, because it gets harsh winters, getting well below 0 in certain areas, and tropical summers, 80's-90's are the norm for August in my area. - Rkstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Kid: Why are we going over there?
Dad: To follow the spider.
Kid: Why?
In other news, that kid is the lone survivor of "8 Legged Freaks II". - Catchpen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is a dupe. Wile E. Coyote sent this in years ago.
- authors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The real question is how many cup holders does it have?
- Zreitan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I, for one, welcome our....oh ***** it
- mfratz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Is there history of mental illness in your family?"
There will be now. - macamatition, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I agree with Stiverton it does look like the spider walker from Wild Wild West and definitely has a steampunk feel to it.
I would not mind having one I love steampunk, Just need to add a smoke stack! - triscuitbiscuit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why are we going over there???
Why? - Razster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dailymotion has been bombing out lately.
I don't think Digg is helping it :) - ersatzphi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Halavis is right, the turning is not optimized so the slip is necessary. If he had rubber footings it would just burn the rubber against the asphalt as it slips.
- rhinopig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Oh *****! Mad Science FTW!

- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Now if the driver were ten feet off the ground and it moved at 30 or 40 mph, then it would be badass, and I would want one for sure.
and cars definitely cause potholes, theres no doubt about that. At stop signs and corners potholes are worse because cars are accelerating and turning. The weather causes buckling in the road here more than anything else. - Smills, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Err, humans are capable of building things a lot more worrying than a giant mechanical spider, I mean seriously...
PS: Damn, I would love one of those things, imagine the conversations you could have... - Leviathan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good work Scrumpy!
- dielawn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wheels are more practical
- cybermiester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very cool, i just love what people come up with
- sephiroth965, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's pretty *****' steampunk. It just needs some tubes & gauges and stuff to complete the effect.
- ZoomBoy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Did anyone see the movie "The Explorers"?
The sound it made while walking reminded me of the robot spider in the movie. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure why this makes you worry about human creation. I thought you were going for "imagine what robots could build."
He said it took a crapload of manhours, but what if him and/or his team never rested and never made mistakes? Screw human creation, I'm more worried about what will be created do destroy all of us indiscriminately. - retard75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1AMAZING.
Instantly put a realistic looking skin around the outside and scare people all day. - Layne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Put a bulletproof dome over the pilot and add some guns...perfect super villain transportation.
- reventlov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's like Zoidberg's crab car from Futurama! If only it could also go sideways....
- unversed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you were watching how it turns you would know that it could not go off road. there is a reason that you don't see more of them.
- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It WAS at Burning Man!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6But then again, nobody in one of these vehicles would care about potholes I presume ;)
- tektalk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Reminds me of the machines in the movie Wild Wild West.
- penchant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm more curious as to that vehicle's performance on off-road terrain (the only practical use I could see for it). Footage of that please!
- mu0p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 WHY!!
