That is the power of emotion and body language- the Iraqi man could obviously tell that the GI was being weird and in turn it forced him to smile. He doesn't need to speak English to understand that the soldier was having a good time- happiness is a universal language. - PeterBWiggin, on 10/12/2007, -18/+49OMG did you see all those rockets and the rape and all that crap that happens ALL THE TIME (the way the mainstream media suggests)... good because I missed it because I was too busy watching a couple of soldiers looking rather comfortable and having some fun.
- Xfrost4, on 10/12/2007, -13/+43Budweiser sucks.
- bperin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31It would have been classic if he shouted CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN as he drove away.
- CharliesRevenge, on 10/12/2007, -12/+39Wow. Everyone just relax. This is just one instance, of one man, at one particular place. You can't blame the guy for finding something slightly amusing to do while he's...oh, I don't know...serving and protecting our country with his life. Besides, he didn't do anything harmful. There was a smile on every ones face (The Iraqis could've been in fear or shock, but regardless).

You are so naive. This is exactly why the public is unready to judge anything when it comes to conflict because simple life experience doesn't even exist.
The reason he is "laughing" is because he doesn't want to get shot. He can't understand English and has definitely heard some horror stories. As a result, the best he can do is smile and laugh with the soldiers. Remember that scene in Saving Private Ryan when the German prisoner the Rangers captured starts singing to the star spangled banner? It's something like that.
Would you like to be stopped on your way to anywhere by a bunch of soldiers and asked questions? No? I didn't think so. This guy might be going to the emergency room because his wife is giving birth or maybe he needs to be somewhere very important on time -- they're people not animals that you can point at and go "ooooh look, it's having a good time!"
Regarding the offer drink thing... again... it's because they don't want to get shot. They dont know Americans, yet they spent their entire lives living under Sadaam with a police force that took regular payoffs. They know that if a government official or officer stops you, you better have something to offer them just in case.
Get a clue, these are people with their own lives... this "harmless fun" is a pain in the ass for the people to deal with .... not to mention some Iraqis could consider that they were clowned on and become resentful of the USA. - foraneagle3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17he says Budweiser because he's acting out Will Ferrell's SNL skit word for word.
- adraft, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12What are most of the repliers talking about? Body language is a huge part of how we communicate. All of the soldiers were smiling and relaxed, and one of them jokingly hit the other, the Iraqi was laughing along too. These stops are routine anyways, so think of an example of routine stops we have in America: When a police officer approaches you smiling, you can bet that you're going to get off easy. If he's straight faced, you know you're facing tough times. I've been in both situations, and it's easy to tell the outcome the second you read their body language.
Plus, give these guys a break. They worry all day whether or not the next car they're going to check is going to explode or if the passengers will shoot them. Are you going to sit there with a straight face and tell me you wouldn't want to make as much humor as you possibly could? - BeardedTacoFish, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15Even funnier if you watch this Harry Carey video first:

None, but he's not maxican. The guys says Don't understand not like the comment that says donde esta. ALso I am pretty sure Army Personnel aren't randomly stopping cars in in the US. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I thought the correct answer was "Unsurgent".
- KMye, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Pretty good impression, probably not appropriate or kind to do to someone who has no idea wtf you're saying. But I'm not going to judge the soldier as I haven't been dealing with the boredom/stress he has for god knows how long. And there are probably guys dealing w/it much more poorly than him.
- BonerMachine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I don't know, I think it was pretty obvious that the GIs were just joking around to everyone there. I mean, the Iraqi guy who was on camera most of the time seemed to give the Harry Carey guy a friendly goodbye as he was leaving. I'm never blindly in support of the military or the US government in general, but I honestly don't see the problem here, unless the stop would have turned serious in some way.
That aside, I just see some soldiers trying to have some fun in a grueling environment and joking around with some civilians who might otherwise feel threatened by a military stop. I mean, would you honestly feel threatened by a guy talking in that tone of voice, regardless of language? - Conway, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13What color is the sky in your world?
- lazyeyesam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5which one's the funny guy?
- mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm sure the soldiers are just as frightened, if not more so, than that Iraqi. What are the chances the Americans will just shoot without cause? Zero. What are the chances those guys will be killed by an IED? Happens every single day. They have to stand there and allow hundreds of cars to pull up right next to them, day after day, and every single day another bomb goes off and they just hope it isn't their turn. That Iraqi guy is in far more danger from his fellow Iraqi's anyways, either Sunni's or Shiite's depending on his background.
- sirpsychosexy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I can't even find a clip of the real Harry on youtube. I guess his show requires a longer attention span than the average youtube viewer (myself included)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes, indeed he looks confused, but is not because he knows Will Farrel.
- crewof502, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I sent this video to my friend, who is serving Iraq (OIF 5), and he strangely HAPPENED TO KNOW THE GUY doing the impersonation! HA! He said he is in OIF 3 (Operation Iraq Freedom 3). Let's Digg it to make this guy FAMOUS! LEEROY JENKINS FAMOUS!
- Hawky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5OMG these guys are so lucky, i have done several road block and car search before and rule number one is you NEVER ever ever touch the car or turn it off or touch anything with out them standing right there in front of you.
extremely unprofessional, Adraft there is no such thing a routine stop in the meao dude. - nellygoph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I can absolutely guarantee that the local iraqi was not enjoying this situation. Is anyone comfortable talking to someone with a machine gun? He didn't understand english, so all he can do is smile and seem unthreatening.
- starguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Damn, if a bunch of guys dress up in military uniforms and toting guns stopped me, started talking to me in a foreign language, and going through my car like that, I'd be scared *****. In fact, the next time I'd run any checkpoint with soldiers standing by it.
That's probably how a lot of them get shot up... they are see military guys on the road with guns and what do you do, you speed up and try to get away from the dangerous situation.
The military guys say, oh, well, we shot them up cause they could of been car bombers blowing us up. Uh, yeah, right. More often than not, they are just terrified civilians. And if someones suicide car bombing you, you have to ask yourself, why? Maybe they don't want you there? With a passion? Do you think? Its a good and clear sign to any "liberator" its time to pack up and go home.
I had something like that happen when I came back into Switzerland from Italy, the border guard wanted to know how much money I had to make sure I wasn't some kind of penniless "bum". I had no idea what he was talking about, asking me about money, I thought he was demanding a bribe. I had to get back in, because I left my car parked in Switzerland to take the train into Italy.
Yes sure it can be funny if you understand the language and therefore can understand the guy is joking with you. But if you don't, it can be downright terrifying. You see the images of Americans shooting up civilians for no reason on TV and all the civilian casulties. I'm sure this soldier is just being a funny guy and thinks he's trying to add some levity to the situation, but what he doesn't understand is grinning interrogations can terrify the hell out someone who has no clue what he is saying. Even the Nazi guards smiled and were plesant as they boarded the Jews onto the trains to send them to "relocation work camps". Those trains of course, went straight to the death camps and riding on them like cattle was hell, with an even greater hell at the end of the line. - xenoploid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Chill out people, it's just a checkpoint. The guys in the van seem to realize it's just some light-hearted fun to pass the monotonous act of searching vehicles.
- ContactRose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If our soldier's aren't allowed to maintain some sort of their personality, then they are just going to start being more abusive. Suppressing that sort of thing isn't going to lead to BETTER situations, that's for sure.
- wounded625, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yes, this could be seen as bad because the iraqi couldn't understand. but what your saying is that a soldier can never have any fun or amusement. that is some load of *****.
- nborders, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Harry: ... And now here comes Andrez Galaradladkajlobaihwqelkgra. Isn't that how you say it Steve?
Steve Stone: Well ya know Harry, Andres is hitting 250. . . down the middle to Ryno, and easy throw to Grace.
... Hey, here's something for you Little Leaguer's out there. Watch how Ryno takes the bad bounce off his chest and still has time to make the play to first.
Harry: Hey Steve, that's great, and just remember you can get your Chicagoland Pizzas at Pizza Hut. Holy Cow! Only $10.99 for two.
~n - Javlington, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That, sir, is a very accurate summary. +digg
- crestfall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Love the confused Iraqi"
That is not what makes this funny. That is the only thing I didn't like about it. - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@foraneagle3 (#5924519)
That's pretty generous. He's trying though. He's pretty damn good at the voice but his expression was lacking. Perhaps that was just because he was trying to look serious about the whole thing. - TheGreenBastard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2...about 9 innings. Well, only about 7 really, towards the end there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6wow you ____ are so cool you drink beer! ahahaha all I need is water and Gatorade.

- DrunkenPirate34, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Thank you, I was looking for the original.
- Subtonic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Inaccurate. This is an impersonation of Will Ferrel impersonating Harry Carey.
- snakeplisskin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ye look at that Iraqi guys face at 1:04 thats a "there going to drag me away and beat the ***** out of me look"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4"Christ, if he'd shot him ya'll would be complaining about that too. There's just no pleasing you people. Freakin' hippies."
Nice logic. So the ONLY alternatives are to mock Iraqis OR shoot them, huh?
How about, oh I don't know, conducting yourself like the professional soldier that you are under contract and being paid TAXPAYER dollars for? - turbod33, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2If you thought the MPAA/RIAA was bad, wait until the MLB crawls up your ass while trying to rebroadcast the game without expressed written consent. Helll, even implied oral consent.
- JordanHusney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0He said "shukran" which is standard Arabic for "thank you."
- elev, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I think too he said something like "seecrit" at the end and the soldier said the same thing back. Definitely didn't sound like a Spanish word.
- subsonik, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8***** unprofessional. To be a soldier is an honor. At least, it should be. A soldier should live for a noble purpose and to bring honor and respect to their respective country. They are ambassadors and the things they do long outlive their actual presence in a territory.
To make a joke to someone that doesn't understand it is basically making a joke OUT of the person because they don't understand it. I bet that soldier wouldn't find it so funny if an Iraqi soldier stopped an American on their way somewhere and made a similar joke native to their culture and in their native tongue. They'd be pissed imagining what the American must be going through.
It's funny if you don't look too deeply. Seriously, the Armed Forces need to teach some diplomatic relations courses to improve the quality of contact and discipline those that step outside of the line. Things are ***** enough as it is. No need to make it worse. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@zreitan come on it was harry carey he was drunk
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3What an *****.
- coldfusion055, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5He feeds his children shrimp scampi. He's a son of a bitch.
- dn11, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Who cares? the Iraqi seemed to be amused as well.
- Jshnlsn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Stuff like this really makes me disappointed. Not mad, just disappointed.
- yoyar, on 10/12/2007, -10/+9Wow, the reason you f&^%king americans can't see why this is disturbing is because all you can see is from the AMERICAN PERSPECTIVE. You aren't the one being pulled out of your car by a soldier from an army that has taken over your country and staring at the huge gun strapped to his chest and he's having fun at your expense and you don't know what the hell he's saying to you. Just for a moment put yourself in the shoes of the other person. Pretend you are the one getting pulled out of your car.
