- jwelchtex, on 10/12/2007, -6/+153It had political commentary way before there was a Daily Show.
- DamageInc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+89Aired tonight? You mean on Sunday November 5th...
- npinski, on 10/28/2007, -23/+103Scaglitti, you couldn't be more wrong.
It WAS a classic treehouse of horror episode until they messed it all up with the last line.
I had to back up and watch it again, because I thought I imagined it. It seemed an absolutely impossible line of dialogue, so blatant, obvious, and heavy handed.
We already had the depressing thoughtful music (good choice), and the obvious metaphors...if they just faded out at that moment it could've been a classic simpsons halloween episode - not one of the funniest but amongst the best like Raven and Homer^3
Instead, with that line, they reminded us YET AGAIN why every 15 year old says "What? the simpsons aren't funny. You're telling me they were at one point funny?? REALLY?"
And with a line like "Sure looks like Iraq is going to look like, doesn't it.", can you blame said teens?
It also made me think of a classic Simpsons line from days gone by:
Comedian: I finally got around to reading the dictionary...turns out the Zebra did it (crowd laughs)
Homer: I don't get it
Lisa: Dad, the Zebra didn't do it, its just a word at the end of the dictionary
Homer: I still don't get it.
Lisa: It's just a joke
Homer: Oooh! I get it! I get jokes.. ahahahahahahaha
Idiotic current Simpsons writers in Iraq episode: "GET IT? GET IT? GET IT? IT'S A REFERENCE TO IRAQ! GET IT?" - homestar14, on 10/12/2007, -23/+87(digg this down)
- Dested, on 10/12/2007, -0/+58Did he say shoebox full of blow on FOX?
- cardwell, on 10/12/2007, -8/+61Simpsons...I'll still be digging it when it is Simpsons Treehouse of Horror LX
digg++; - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45Maybe he was predicting this would reach the front page by sunday.
- Ascendant, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Long live this show.
- tombomb, on 10/12/2007, -12/+46Obligatory digg for one of the greatest TV shows ever.
- ardenr, on 10/12/2007, -9/+41Since nobody got the real irony in the last line: The irony is Americans have to be forcefed the truth now. THAT's why the music is so sad. That's why I'm giving it to you here, now. God damn people, knee-jerk reactions are what got us into the ***** mess. Watch it again.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -7/+35I'm not freaking out like the above peopole are, but that line, "Sure looks like Iraq is going to look like, doesn't it." wasn't necessary. That's what makes satire good, it's not blatantly obvious or EXPLAINED by one of the characters.
Still a good episode. I love how they can kill off every character in the ToH's. - Scagli3tti, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30@ npinski
I definitely agree with you that the last line about Iraq was definitely a "GET IT!?" line. However, I don't believe idiotic Simpsons writers are entirely to blame. I think the whole "GET IT!?" aspect is more a result of writers recognizing how many idiotic viewers are watching the show who, to be blunt, wouldn't get it without the Iraq line.
I have constantly seen classic Simpsons episodes whoosh over people's heads, and I think Simpsons writers are now resorting to dumbing-down the episodes for people who don't understand what the writers are really trying to get across.
I also agree with you that the Iraq line and other dumbing-down "mechanisms" are quite lame and detract from the overall episode, but even with the Iraq line, I had a strong sense of appreciation for the writers' message, which is why I labeled it as one of my favorite episodes in _recent_ memory. - diggtard, on 10/12/2007, -6/+30Are you pondering what I'm pondering Pinky?
Yeah Brain, but how is doing the voice for Orson Welles going to make The Simpsons funny again? - sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26If it lasts till LX, I will be XD
- SmokeN-DC, on 10/12/2007, -7/+30Halloween special!
In November!
I already have my Christmas decorations up - Scagli3tti, on 10/12/2007, -31/+53The last segment was absolutely brilliant. Definitely one of my favorite Simpsons episodes in recent memory.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/12/2007, -8/+29Comic book guy!
- MegaSilver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Kang: Pathetic humans! They're showing a Halloween episode in November!
Kodos: Who's still thinking about halloween? We've already got our Christmas decorations up!
Kang/Kodos: Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas! - quixand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22This is because FOX is pre-empted by the World Series.
- Electrox3d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21And here's the .flv file for everyone to download and watch offline.
http://videodownloader.net/get/?url=http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xkjnq_ts-xvii-hs - DamageInc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Well it wasn't aired yesterday night either.
- rauz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Funny thing is this has been on the torrent sites for almost a week, I'm not saying this digg is old or anything just that it's rare to see a Simpsons ep leak so early.
- honavery, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21Yeah, I don't think this is on till Sunday.
- nfxbeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14NEWSFLASH! Just about every TV show has a formula. Watch:
1) Start with some unremarkable dialog.
2) A murder has been committed! Get to the scene.
3) Hmm.. some mysterious clues just don't seem to all fit.
4) More clues only produce more questions...
5) A twist reveals the murderer and motive
I have just presented the recipe for every cop show EVAR! - Hubert303, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17I think people complaining about the last line don't get it - the political allusions were so obvious that the line about Iraq was stating the obvious and was a joke in itself. I really don't think the writers put it in to make sure people "got it"...
- plague, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Umm... LX = 60. You should have paid attention in that class, you never know when you'll get chased into a room with roman numerals on all the doors and only one of them leads to safety.
- Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I would like to ***** on your keyboard for the whole "people are going to digg me down, I'm a martyr, whaaa" crap. Please STFU, assclown.
- Foenetik, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16I will never understand why they wait till AFTER Halloween to air these eps.Glad it leaked, and I love the tales from the crypt intro.
- jambarama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Direct link to the video: http://www.dailymotion.com/get/702/320x240/flv/958598.flv?key=08e9cfa3bef9bebad1c860a99b1d1cb3127af0d.flv
- bury, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Before you go calling people dumb, you might want to realize it was a clever play on XD being both a roman number and an emoticon.
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10That would be the voice of Maurice LaMarche: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005606/
He also is the voice of:
Toucan Sam
Popeye (third voice of Popeye)
Orson Welles in several cartoons and even in the movie "Ed Wood".
Yosemite Sam in WB cartoons
Alec Baldwin in "Team America: World Police"
...and many others. - jeff823, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11The fact that this is ToH XVII really says a lot.... no matter what anyone on here has to say about this episode or the past few seasons, I believe there will be many more ToH episodes to come. There will always be loyal Simpson fans... and no matter how bad an episode may be, it's still better than most of the crap on TV.

Loyal Simpson Fan to the End - dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Orwell's voice sounds suspiciously like Brain's from Pinky and the Brain...
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I have to agree. Most people got the joke halfway through. 90% by the Operation Enduring Freedom Line. The "That's sure a lot like how Iraq will be" line was for those who were just chuckling quietly at naked people.
The Simpsons folks know their audience, and the humor is in how unsubtle that one line was. Notice how they hold on the devastation for several seconds before finally saying the line and then they hold longer to let it sink in.
"I don't want to set the world on fire" was a good one. Reminds me of Fallout (which is the perfect videogame series to go back to whenever you think of nuclear armament). - GirSaysDoom13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9did anyone notice the animation in this episode? it looked a lot more polished, and the CG at the beggining didn't hurt.
i thought the last line was..... hm. really, really awkwardly handeled. - Black913Hole, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11but XD = 490
- Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13People keep on saying the simpsons isn't funny anymore but it really is. Sure, not as good as before but there are still plenty of chuckles and laughs in there, it's like people are just jumping in the bandwagon.
- u8myfoood, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13The Simpsons started out as a show demonstrating morals... then became funny, as it progressed till about season 14, then it just died, now they have to explain the jokes, what good is an allusion if you have to explain it?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8C'mon man....even George W. Bush knows how to use the Google...
- russizm, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14Ever hear of the world series?
- afex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9i think you mean 'annoyed grunt'.
- ozroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Roman Numerals?? They never even tried to teach us that in class!!
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Some of us don't like abandoning people after we try to help them, even if the original help was a mistake to start with.
The Kurds would heartily disagree with your assessment of Iraq, since they live in a perfectly safe zone. It's probably a little nicer than being gassed with regularity.
Personally as a proponent of womens rights and someone with a number of gay friends I cannot imagine letting Iraq fall back into the degree of intolerance towards gays and women that existed under strict Islamic rule. I'm not sure why anyone wants to see that, yet many seem to be in a hurry to get Iraq back to how it was by simply leaving them in the lurch. That's what we tried in the last war and it sucked. - IcerC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6How is this? Great Leak!!!
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Pre-air snag. I downloaded a copy a few days ago from some torrent site. It's good resolution, excellent quality, and has "Final Version. For review purposes only" at a couple of points in the middle of the show. The YouTube version was obviously created from that file.
That said, it's not a good episode, IMO. Probably the worst halloween special yet. - faz9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Using keepvid you can still access the flv file (not sure for how long) http://keepvid.com/?url=http%3A//www.dailymotion.com/video/xkjnq_ts-xvii-hs

- Emerica, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Daily motion to Mp4 link

What is Digg?
