- sbasund, on 10/12/2007, -10/+52you just blew my mind
- hakz, on 10/12/2007, -11/+52its a dig at creationism. of course its funny...
- h3nry, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25inaccurate? ned doesn't have his creationism beliefs challenged? no hilarity? did we watch the same video?
- h3nry, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25while it may be true that 90% of people don't know a thing about neither evolution nor creationism, its also true that damn near 100% of those who commit their entire lives to the objective study of biology and the basic mechanisms responsible for life are convinced that the theory of evolution is closer to the truth than any other theory as of yet devised. it is also true that the theory of evolution has thus far stood up to scrutiny, and every attempt to discredit it, for over a hundred years, while creationism--on the other hand--has had to reinvent itself in a new watered down form because it was unable to withstand similar scrutiny. its also true the study of evolutionary mechanisms has led to several major breakthroughs that simply would not have been possible otherwise, and is responsible for saving countless lives and improving the lives of countless others (vaccines, medical treatments, genetically modified foods, etc), while creationism has not led to a single scientific discovery that i am aware of.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22I can see how it's not funny if you have strong (AKA stubborn) beliefs about creationism.
- Lobut, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Well, stating that atheism is at the same level as Creationism/Blind Faith is ridiculous. There's a lot deeper to what you're attempting to summarize. Most atheists aren't atheists but level their atheism without the likelihood of the tooth fairy or santa claus. You can claim that you can't "prove" atheism because it's true, however, the burden of proof does not lie in the atheists.
Oh yes, intelligent design has been proven in the courts to be religious doctrine masked as science and one last thing. Science also accepts that some things are unknown but ... that's a little obvious because if we knew everything then ... we wouldn't still be you know ... studying, learning, and testing now would we? - ApeInago, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19@celcho
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fact
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_laws_in_science
technically:
one studies the science of "Gravitational theory". and the scientific concept of gravity, itself is a "law". And things are affected by gravity, which is an observational "fact" that can be tested...
in that same sense:
one studies the science of "Evolutionary theory". and the scientific concept of evolution, itself is a "law". And things are affected by evoulution, which is an observational "fact" that can be tested...
which is not the same as:
one studies the science of "Creationism theory". and the scientific concept of creation, itself, is a "law". And things are afffected by creation, which is an observable "fact" that can be tested...
(claiming it as scientific is a mistake, because you can't test this, at all. All scientfic theories and laws and concepts can be tested and proven. You can't prove god, therefore, it is not scientific.)
Weither or not they are "True", is a diffrent thing all together. I simply have a problem with calling creationism, science. Science, by definition, is testable (with statistically significant results), observable, and can change if found to be wrong.
...
As a side thought, and one that always amuses me: A lot of people claim "you can't disprove god, therefore he must exist", which commits a logical fallicy called "affirming the consiquent". By the same logic, you could equally claim "you cant disprove thor, therefor he must exist" aswell as "you can't disprove the flying spagettie monster, therefor he must exist". So either they all exist, or none of them do, by that logic. With flawed logic, you can "prove" anything, but the argument is invalid, and thusly, proves nothing. - popltree2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Did you challenge yourself, jakerz?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17lol, unisex bathroom
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Don't bother trying to explain it to him. He said "I'm a strong creationist". When he says strong, he mean's hes stubborn. He's a stubborn creationist and will not accept what you say.
- Wonkanobi, on 10/12/2007, -10/+22Kudos to The Simpsons for labeling it a "myth".
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15@jakerz
The evolution theory never claimed that humans come from monkeys. This already shows that you are a poor brainwashed individual and nothing more. - ApeInago, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9***** you... spammer.
(yes, that was blunt, and harsh, but the point needs to be made) - ApeInago, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14You can't disprove the flying spagettie monster... so it must be true?
- insidesource, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's funny cause it's true.
- LeeSoong, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Priceless.
Now can I have my $13 Billion Dollars a year for Faith Based Initiatives Taxes back?
It's just great when the Government takes my money by force,
to give it to churches and TV evangelists that actively teach falsehoods against my belief.
Can I please take $2 Billion to build a pyramid dedicated to RA ?
How about just $1 Million for a Lodge dedicated to Thor?
Ok, I'll settle for just $775,000 for an all-you-can-eat church of the flying spaghetti monster...
It's Your Faith? YOU Pay For it. - palan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8But it's the nature of science to question everything around us. Science will devote many hours of research and experimentation to something that seems trivial just for the understanding of it. That isn't to say there aren't limitations though. Science is limited by the natural world. The concept of god, whether one or many, is inherently part of the supernatural. Science can't prove god(s) because of that. However, should a god have created a world through a natural order science would attempt to explain the order used.
- da_bradler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4BlueSS you need to stop praying to that stork
- celcho, on 10/12/2007, -14/+17gravity is a law, evolution is a theory. try avoiding a dictionary tomorrow.
- FlapJaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A religionphobe would be someone AFRAID of religion, not someone who knows how silly and stupid it is.
- HinDeSky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4What about Xenu?
- ApeInago, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_law (forgot this one)
- cyborgcommando0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It never ceases to amaze me how people, without investigating into the possible evidences, make up their own minds. You can't make a premise and then look for the evidences to support yourself. The facts will show the truth as being True.
- rjam710, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I wasn't implying that all atheists are ignorant, or that anyone that doesn't agree with my beliefs is an atheist. I was just saying how there are a lot of people here that aren't even bothering to question their own belief system. Instead, they see that "Hey, religion bashing is cool now so let me do it too!" I have much respect for those who actually have reasons for not believing in God, they're not the ones that frustrate me.
As for calling me ignorant, you're the one that just grouped me in with all the "people like [me]." Not all Christians are the same, we're not all fanatical bible quoting lunatics; just as not all Muslims aren't bomb-toting terrorists.
I apologize if I did sound at all ignorant. All I wanted to say was, don't believe what everyone else believes for the simple reason of fitting in. Take the time to form your own belief system, and don't blindly go attacking everyone that disagrees with you. - FlapJaw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Everyone is born an atheist.
- jaymzv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1As an ex-evolutionist, I'd have to say Creationism makes far more sense than evolution does. None of you obviously have explored creation AND evolution enough. I'd like any of you to show me imperical proof of to the religion of evolution.
- foraneagle3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1and a baby
- foraneagle3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@FlapJaw: you're right; it is silly and stupid to have a set of beliefs and practices generally held by a human community stemming from shared conviction.
- Wonkanobi, on 10/12/2007, -12/+11@jakerz: Oh, I've explored creationism. I've also "explored" evolution. And "Nothing in Biology Makes Sense Except in the Light of Evolution" - Theodosius Dobzhansk. Evolution is a theory just like gravity is a theory. Try avoiding gravity tomorrow.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4"Feel free to ignorantly digg me down for believing in God..."
Wow very stubborn of you to say we're digging you down for that reason. You know we're not digging you down for believing in God, but for how stupid what you said was. I digged you down for being ignorant. God hates ignorant people like you.
Atheists are okay, they have backup for what they say. Most of the time, they're just trying to let people like you know how crazy and stubborn some of the things you guys say are. Also, just because people don't agree with you, doesn't mean they're Atheists. There are many people who believe in God, but not Creationism part.
Just read what you typed. It's such an ignorant post. It shows how ignorant of a person you are. Please spend your spare time learning about your beliefs instead of bashing others who don't believe what you believe. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3woah we have an armchair cynic on our hands people! oh, wait this is digg.
- Wonkanobi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@celcho
@apeinago
I was comparing two concepts by using the word 'like' to illustrate their similarities. Try to avoiding getting owned by 'apeinago' tomorrow. - foraneagle3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I stopped watching for the same reason. I'd argue that "this crap" is the reason viewers are religiophobes, however, not the other way around.
- BLueSS, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Furthermore, if they had them, inny or outie?
- Mapeki, on 10/12/2007, -15/+12I don't like you.
- tonage, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I stopped watching Simpsons because of this crap. Used to be funny with a little religion bash here and there. Now, it is in every episode. Gets old after a while.
Guess they have alot of Religionphobes still watching. - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3I am athiest (not one of those raving, foaming at the mouth ones)
and while I believe that there is not higher power, I am open to the contemplation of the existance of one, I just believe there is
and dont see how anyone could reasonably convince me otherwise - rjam710, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6I don't see why anything remotely religious has to start a debate. I believe in "Creationism," but I found this video pretty funny. It's seems like a lot of people are just jumping on the Atheist bandwagon these days, which is sad. I may believe in God, but at least I can form my own opinions.
Feel free to ignorantly digg me down for believing in God... - wisebob134, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3"You can't disprove the flying spagettie monster... so it must be true?"
Would anyone die for the flying spaghetti monster? No so their has be more to religon than a book of stories - skryingbreath, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7Take that, Christian fundamentals!
- Tricky, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1uhh, you just missed the point. You LOSE. Good day sir.
- buffalodan, on 10/12/2007, -20/+7You just pissed off his most holy noodly appendage.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3@uckingfahits
Agnostic all the way... - Tricky, on 10/12/2007, -19/+5you mean "digg"?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -20/+2buried as inaccurate
;) - Icecream, on 10/12/2007, -31/+6Was a little funny
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -30/+2buried as inaccurate again, dumbasses
- jakerz, on 10/12/2007, -50/+12No laugh for me on this one. I'm a strong creationist, and if it was funny then I would admit it. 90% of the people that watch this don't really explore creationism, or even evolution for that matter.
They think that if the cool kid in their school says "We came from monkeys", then they believe it's true. Same for creationism.
Hopefully everyone can challenge their self's on this topic. - BLueSS, on 10/12/2007, -77/+9This isn't even funny.
