- rkenward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+80oh dear Pentium 2, i thought you would be great... all i needed was a p2, windows 98, high speed internet, and a hot girl friend - I've since had all of them and have been nothing but disappointed.
- AWBoy666, on 10/12/2007, -12/+49"I pretty vividly remember this being no TV"
Proof reading is good - oddmanout, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36i don't think it was banned so much as pentium II becoming obsolete
- vuzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33BANNED is the new AMAZING
- pbuschma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31i wonder what OS he is running ... doh! "Hello I am homer and I am a PC!"
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I think the word "Banned" was included in the title to generate interest. I saw this commercial a lot when it was on TV.
- AWBoy666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I don't know. I was pretty happy with at least the p2 and high speed internet.......
- clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24It wasn't banned. It just died out after a while like all commercials do.
It played on the air for a good while, I remember it very well. - rrcasco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26I remember this being on tv too. I wonder why it was banned?
- Ben174, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22They just put 'banned' in the title to rack up hits on YouTube. Deceiving and annoying.
- walterd93, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20...and high speed internet meant 56k.
- stratmancj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16it was banned?
- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"Banned" is internet-speak for "please watch/digg me"
- mac512k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8wow the p2 was that big? it looked like the size of a G5 processor
you could put a dual core in marges hair - djNullSpace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8This coming from a person that doesn't know "proofreading" is one word and doesn't end his sentences with punctuation.
Bravo, idiot. - z.unit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Wow i was just thinking about this ad yesterday, creepy.
"Many of you mock my interest in the Pastry Science"
awesome. - jerrygofixit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I remember it too, wasn't banned...
- vivisector, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'm running a P2 right now with WinXP and 192 MB ram with DSL. As for the hot girlfriend not so much.
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Both the PII and the PIII were manufactured in Single-Ended Cartridge form for desktop systems, although the Pentium III did move back to a PGA socketed form. If you've never seen the inside of the SEC, it's simply a daughterboard on which the CPU and L2 cache were mounted, except for in the case of the PII Celeron, which either had no L2 cache (boy was that a mistake) or had the L2 on-die.
- Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15Well, first he was running Windows. Then, with the Intel chip, he was Linux. :P
- ZapWizard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8You know that "DOH!" at the end?
He found out he could have installed an AMD! - jwigum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5But didn't you know, the instant way to get diggs or views on youtube is to call your video "banned".
- JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5My PII Deschutes 300Mhz can handle Win2003 Server :D
- handheldchimp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5wow this was not banned, i think they even placed it in an episode of the simpsons too! (correct me if im wrong)
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I still have a black Pentium II shirt with "Intel Inside" written on the back of Homer's head. In restrospect, Intel didn't think very hard about which character they chose.
- rkenward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@ CasaDeQueso - 1997 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Simpsons_media
- spunquik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This was soo on TV
It was on back when new Simpson were on Thursday nights. - 4degrees, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I remember seeing this commercial too, i dont think it was banned, maybe they pulled is because matt groening didnt want to licence to intel anymore?
i turned my old P2 450 into a linux media center... a slow one. im soon going to bump it up to a speedy P3 700. - bignickolson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Probably around the time the PII came out...would be my guess...
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Slot A was SEC Athlon. Slot 1 was SEC PII/PIII.
- stryker2you, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I need to download that and keep it on my computer. Guess I'll have to get that firefox extension.
- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I guess you were too young to remember the old slot processors before the sockets (and after previous sockets). And the inevitable slocket adaptors to insert newer socket processors into old slot motherboards.
- kodek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2nick, why do you have to troll every single freaking story in the front page? dont you have anything better to do with your time?
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I mean. the only piece of my old computer left is a 233MHz Pent2 with Heatsink. I have no idea what to do with it. lol
- CasaDeQueso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anybody remember what year it ran?
- BurninatorX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This comment has been banned for no good reason at all
(hahaha now i'm bound to be dugg up) - wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yea, the Slot A chips (PII and PIII) were really that big. The first systems I hand built PIII systems, so I kept one around for sentimental reasons. The one thing they did have going for them was that they were easy to install. No worries about bending pins or cracking the chip whist mounting a monsterous copper core hsf. Just slap it into the slot and connect the fan lead to the header on the mobo. Done.
- rkenward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@shalabi - you jackass i didn't say it was banned youtube did.
- Eeqmcsq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More info about this commercial here: http://www.snpp.com/episodes/mini/MC25.html
- Niz1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol im sure it was a joke
- gambl0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This was definitely not banned, I used to use the term 'Pastry Sciences' a lot :D. But it is a cool commercial!
- rkenward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I seem to remember windows 97 trying to launch but being pushed back to 98 that year as well. Anyone else recall that?
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I still have my old 233MHz Pent 2. No idea what to do with it though..... the rest of the components disentegrates.......
- steal_apps01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone have a high quality version of that commercial available for download.
I want that. - rubored, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not banned, just forgotten.
Funny still to see Simpsons doing advertising plugs, especially for Intel.
+DIGG! - sherwinn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow.. that was for Pentium 2? I remember that so clearly. Can't believe it's that old.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Slot 1?
- rkenward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@mancat --- well he also has the biggest head and the p2 was pretty large.
- cmilki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Intel should definitely revive this :)
- joel.smith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@vuzman
