He also stated that he didn't want to end up like Letterman. Not in the sense that he didn't get the Tonight Show, but that he wanted to stay on NBC through his career. The reason being he wanted to always have access to his shows on Late Night. After Letterman went on to host The Late Show, he no longer has permission to access any of the videos made during his long run at NBC.
