of course he is. only a sharp guy could create a character like Ali G and then interview powerful people and make fools out of them - vermin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+82Yeah, struck me as odd how the submitter would think assume he's not intelligent.
- adie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+61He actually grew up middle-class. And if by "his family" you mean his Israeli extended family on his mother's side, then you are correct. But they live there, so it's kinda natural that they would "own property" in Israel.
- rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+53Wow... if you think that is a thick accent you haven't heard many British accents.
- Bumpoh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+51yeah he studied history and wrote his thesis at cambridge on Jewish involvement in the American Civil Rights movement..... has to be pretty ***** smart. plus he just acts smart, but dumb, but smart.... thats the best i can do. im drunk
- johnjohnstonson, on 10/12/2007, -28/+64yep, he's a Cambridge-educated richboy. interestingly enough, given his in-character anti-semitic remarks (as Borat Sagdiyev), he is Jewish and his family own property in Hertzeleya, Israel.
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32This one of the funniest guys on earth.
- daeyeth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26FINALLY! my god, was I the only one that was getting sick of those Borat interviews? the movie is funny as hell though and a sacha segment is much more interesting
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -7/+29congratulations, you have found a computer, now get back to school
- marquis, on 10/12/2007, -12/+27You're wrong. The British speak normal English. It's the Americans that have an accent.
Just to keep the facts straight. - azzageddi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21He has a thick accent? Huh?
- *Ica*, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Yeah his accent is kind of a mix though between posh well spoken London and a bit of Brixton too!
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Thick British accent??! His accent is very mild. Think you might be refering to his accent when he goes into his Ali G character. .....um.....did you know he was going into his Ali G character in that interview?
- cpbrown, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21lol you're a retard.
- KnightWhoSaysNi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Not "Finally". This is an old interview from when the second season of "The Ali G Show" started on HBO.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Sweet, i hope this gets reposted AGAIN next week!
- Xanin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11When he plays the part of Ali G, he wears what in show business they call a 'costume'
- kerbechard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11What do you mean he seems like a smart guy? Are you one of those people who sees the Terminator movies and thinks that the governor of California is really a cybernetic machine?
Because if you are, I totally understand that. It's not strange at all. Really. - achoo5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10do you live in Kazakhstan?
- wjw75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the Governor of California was a cybernetic machine.
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11After watching Borat and the Ali G show and then seeing what he acts like in real life. I have to say that Sacha is one of the funniest and best actors I've ever seen in my entire life. The fact that he can stay in his borat character (which is totally different from how he really acts) for so long is amazing.
- lib319, on 10/12/2007, -11/+19Those richboy property owning educated jews!
Yes indeed; how interesting that he can attack anti-semites by ACTING and SATIRISING, who knew?!
Dear Johnstonson or whatever your handle is, please disclose your parents and your own income/owned property so we can either call you a richboy or a poorboy. - ArmandoM, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12"You're wrong. The British speak normal English. It's the Americans that have an accent. "
Huh? They don't have an English accent?
I know people from Spain who have a Spanish accent, I'd be willing to bet most people from Russia have a Russian accent, etc. I don't think it's that big of a stretch to say that the English have an English accent.
Now If you want to say I have an American accent I can accept that. - tanveer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Thank you two for that! That's exactly when hit me when i first read the submitter descriptions well: Are you kidding me?! How can one one failed to see his intelligence and genius behind all of the interactions all of his characters have all the time"!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10You should come to london... I have had other English people not know what the ***** we are saying (no we dont sound like dick van dyke in mary poppins)
- junk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It's pretty rare for Cohen to do interviews out of character. Here is another from NPR - http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=3613548
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Lying? About what?
- AustinGoodchild, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Great guy.
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Are you kidding? What part of London are you from where other English people can't understand you? - can't think of a place for the life of me; don't say East End 'cause everyone in Britain watches or has watched the drama East Enders.
- Jaymo89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Here's a nifty piece of advice, if you don't like it, don't view it!
It's really that simple! - Alegis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Didn't see it back then, enjoyed it now.
Interests in the vid increased lately with all the borat hype. - satori3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4so many great moments during the head of the CIA's interview that he simply has to be a genius. Not simply in concept, but in execution. The timing is impecable
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think you need to develop your new character a little more before 'sharing' it with the rest of us... thanks. The good ol' boy - trailer trash thing has pretty much jumped the shark...
- unversed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Psh, Its new to a lot of us. I've always wanted to see what he was like out of character
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I've heard him say that before, doesn't appear to be making a joke there.
- DigginTuesday, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Really enjoyed that. Kudos to Digg/Youtube as the show isn't available over here (Correct me if I'm wrong :))
- cheez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3you forgot bruno
- rtakach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4instead of arguing who has or does not have the accent, let's assume we all do, and for the sake of simplicity:
americans have an american accent
the brits have a british accent
english is english...unless you are referring to brits as "english" in some way, then you're talking about a person and not a language. - limbo666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Complete collection of Saha's character videos at: http://www.indextube.com/Sacha_Baron_Cohen
- tw0bit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2did anyone say it was new? this was before he was popular here...john stewart even had to explain to people who he was....
- jiggawoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Arthur: How do you do, good lady. I am Arthur, king of the Britons. Whose
castle is that?
Woman: King of the 'oo?
Arthur: King of the Britons.
Woman: 'Oo are the Britons?
Arthur: Well we all are! We are all Britons! And I am your king.
Woman: I didn't know we 'ad a king! I thought we were autonomous collective.
For some reason the previous comments reminded me of that...
Sacha is a freakin genius, in a way it's a shame that he's becoming well known in the US, it may make it more difficult for him to take the piss. But on the other hand, I wouldn't think the type of people who he usually interviews are the type of people who would watch his show, his movie, or the Daily Show.
Oh, and for the record, you all talk funny, poms and yanks both. Everyone should adopt the Aussie accent, mate. G'day, stone the crows, strewth and so on. - satori3000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Lets be clear on the use of the name Britain. Britain includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each has it's own native language, but the English moved in and forced the locals to speak their English through either invasion, or forced economic need.
English is the language of England. Sacha Baron Cohen speaks English and was born in England. Accents in England are fairly varied in the urban areas. America has it's own somewhat plain Midwestern accent and England has the same. I think it's fair for someone who is used to a the fairly flat upper class accent expected on many of the media outlets like BBC to hear close to that accent from a man like Sacha Baron Cohen. - jameslheard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2a good documentary about Sacha Baron Cohen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBpJY-srkow&mode=related&search= - evilray, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I'm guessing your talking about the "hooking up with James Lipton and his wife thing". It sounds a bit misleading. But you never know, crazier things have happened in show business.
- henrah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, this is a great one too!
I get the sense that he really adores his characters. - JeremiahLBurns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"You know what? I do that too!" FTW!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2He got cleaned up!
I heard it took him two months to grow that mustach - jamie21310, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm on the fence about Bruno. He's sort of forgettable. Still better than most of the stuff on TV, but he pales in comparison with Borat and Ali G.
Booyakasha. - mwosh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Satirising?
- jamie21310, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Not sure where you live, but if you have cable/satellite and can get HBO, you've got as much Ali G as you want. In fact, they showed about 20 airings yesterday alone to coincide with the Borat release.
