- Conway, on 10/17/2007, -14/+47Because he steals other comic's material. At least that's what I've learned from digg during the past week. Oh yeah... and 13 years old love Dane Cook.
- KennMac, on 10/12/2007, -7/+31Were we watching the same thing?
Tourgasm was unbearably terrible. - bariswheel, on 11/10/2007, -8/+30Yes, Mitch was funny, but I'm sorry he's getting more credit than it's actually due, yes, I am being being politically incorrect, digg me down fanboys. And we all know why, it's because he recently passed away. Much respect to him, but please let's keep things in perspective shall we?
Dave Chappelle, Lewis Black, George Carlin, Jeremy, and many other up and comers are actually pretty damn funny. Hedberg was great at his style, but he definitely was not the end all be all of all comedy. - coheedcollapse, on 11/10/2007, -19/+37Am I retarded because I think Dane Cook is funny and I'm not 13? I mean sure, he's not the best, but his cd got a few chuckles out of me.
- tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Sometimes I wonder about digg, is there some sort of digg headquarters where everyone agrees on certain topics, and then if anyone outside of the digg headquarters says the opposite they all massively digg down that person. "Dane Cook isn't funny", and 90 percent of the digg users commenting agree... and if you do like him, and find him funny you must be an idiot. It's like you are all a bunch of sheep, I bet some of you haven't even formed an actual opinion about Dane Cook you just saw a 4 minute audio clip of Louis CK jokes then Dane Cook jokes that are somewhat similar but also extremely common things that people would talk about especially comedians... so he must suck.
Do most of the digg users drink from the same Kool-Aid bottle.
Guaranteed to get you dugg down.
1. You like the PS3 (what a moron you are)
2. Your a republican (you hate gays and love Bush, because thats a requirement when declaring your party)
3. Your religious (you really hate gays, and really love Bush you must be brainwashed and want to brainwash others)
4. You don't think the Wii is the best thing ever (you are a graphics whore who hates innovation!)
5. You like Vista (Look at Beryl on Ubuntu, dude we've been doing glass ***** for years)
6. You like another MP3 player besides the iPod (oh man you like choice and features in your product and you don't fallow popular trends)
7. You bought a Chevy and like it (Dude ***** you, Toyotas are a millions times better!)
- RoboPimp3000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19I agree, comedy is subjective. However, I did see Mitch Hedberg on comedy central years before he died and I thought he was hilarious even then. His style and delivery was just so much different than everybody else that I'd seen. So, for me at least, his death wasn't what made me like him.
Lewis Black, on the other hand, just makes obvious observations and says them really angrily. ("There's a Starbucks across the street from another Starbucks! What the *****!!!) Not funny to me. - icealchemist, on 10/12/2007, -13/+29Dane Cook steals material from Louis CK... where have you been?
- Chingmiester, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Or you're fortunate like me and a couple of my friends who haven't heard of the people he steals jokes from. Then he's a big hoot.
- kosmoX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17I like some of Dane Cook's bits, but I have never laughed at that bit. Never.
- dankCIA, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13The jokes that Dane apparently stole from Louis C.K. were pretty questionable. Nothing even close to what Mencia did/does.
I think Dane Cook is funny but most of it is due to the delivery and not the context of the jokes. That being said, Lucky Louie and Louis C.K. are 100 times funnier than Dane Cook will ever be. - wierdaaron, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18There were, what? 6 hour long episodes? Plus they advertised it on HBO and comedy central at least 10 times per hour for the month and a half proceeding it, and every billboard and bus ad was for Tourgasm. And radio..
In total, for the probably 15 hours total that tourgasm was thrust through all my senses directly at my brain, I found about 45 seconds of it funny.
So, yeah, tourgasm was pretty funny. - fubuvsfitch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Mitch wasn't original. He was a Steven Wright knock-off.
- ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Mencia stole material from Cook, who stole material from hedburg, who stole material from kelly, who stole material from chaplin, who stole material from..
me.
That's right. I invented comedy. Thieving bastards. - JFetch, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14How can his cd be funny? You can't see him mime out all the "jokes". He's all image, no talent.
- mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Also, strawberry ice cream sucks, and if you don't agree you're a simpleton who doesn't appreciate ice cream at the level I do. Chocolate ice cream has a complicated and subtle taste that is objectively, scientifically, and empirically better than strawberry.
- UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Some comedians base their routine on delivery, others on material.
As far as delivery goes, Mitch was the best; dead or alive. He could take a joke like "ducks eat free at Subway" and make you laugh forever. Fans of this type of comedy have every reason to believe he was the best even though, like most artists, his brilliance wasn't appreciated by the masses until after his death.
I'm more of a material fan. I like comics like George Carlin and the other modern day philosophers. They may not have lovable personalities like Mitch and others, but their material comes from a deep place and is funny on many different levels. - SpeedyG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's so nice to hear that so many people are now experts on which comedians take their material from others.
- DyDx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There was some "proof" in one of the Carlos Mencia articles but it was pretty flimsy (icealchemist just posted this above me). They were shown (well, it was audio) telling _similar_ jokes but they weren't really the same. I'm not saying Cook HASN'T stolen jokes from Louis CK, just that that one audio clip didn't really seal the deal for me. I'd love to see some more convincing evidence, though.
- icealchemist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdf9ZRh8QGk
- Radiohead84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5He isnt the best by far, but come on, he has some funny jokes.
- Skab, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7tourgasm isnt even a real comedy tour, real comedy tours involved youre own pos rent a car with 5 other comics, and roach invested motels, NOT touring colleges, and banging the last waitress in a sleeping bag you brought cause the sheets are too dirty to sleep on. NOT a tour bus and some guy that does interpretive dance and makes up words with no punch line.
- Race, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7"Dane Cook sucks"? People sure make it a point to express their hatred for Dane Cook. Is this like one of those Hay-guys-look-I'm-too-cool-for-the-something-a-lot-of-people-like type of deals? Get a life
- RussellW, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Mitch Hedgeburg... R.I.P. I was sick of Dane the first time I saw him on Comedy Central.
- j37hr0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There were lots of Dane Cook diggers 238 days ago. My how he has fallen. http://digg.com/videos/comedy/Dane_Cook_Insomiac_Tour_(Full_Set)
- bfaulk04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dr. Cox FTW!
- mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5No he doesn't. That audio recording is extremely flimsy evidence; it's really stretching it.
- deathdefyer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh come on, you don't really mean that. No one does.
- musicfreak21, on 10/12/2007, -15/+16Dane Cook is not funny. He takes small absurd situations, blows them out of proportion, and repeats the same joke with the same words in a different variation creating a instant nostalgia effect which he pursues to laugh at.
- catfud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I met Bob Kelly after a show one time and he was really nice guy
- chall85, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1worst "comedian" ever.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just because 13 year olds like im doesnt mean he sucks. Other age groups like his comedy in case u didn't realize. in fact, a ***** of adults love him. not saying that u have to like him but saying that he sucks is an opinion. u can't prove that.
- spargett, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3He's pretty good. The whole acronym this is so annoying though. I think 90% of all Myspace profiles have the phrase "BAMF" at least once.
- jstohler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sure, Tourgasm was funny if you're a teenage girl. Most of us aren't.
- SundayBrunch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Dane cook is very funny, I don't know where all this hate is coming from, you people.
- DannyB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It's really nice to see how diggers take one current topic and for the next 3 weeks see an explosion in similar articles to get diggs on similar stories.
Anyway, I've liked Dane Cooks comedy for a while, but lately I haven't found it as funny as I used to. Do I still think he's funny? Yes, he had some good bits (Kool-Aid being my favorite), but his presentation in the jokes has been irritating to me lately. For instance, when he is telling a story, he will repeat what he is doing about ten times... "So I was walking to my car....just walking...walking to my car...skipping over to my mode of transportation". Given the punch line is generally a good laugh, I can't help but think "JUST GET ON WITH THE GOD DAMN JOKE". That being said, Dane Cook is a good comedian, not great.
Why don't we all start some discussions on how other regular comics suck/are the best? - inurb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dane cook is funny.
- PookaMan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2way to follow the crowd, guys! dane cook is hilarious and yes, it is in the delivery, so what? if its funny with the delivery, does that make it any less funny? no. funny is funny. there are tons of comics out there that steal way more jokes than him, he just gets looked into more because one of the most famous. you people need to get lives and stop bitching about anything and everything. that being said, dane cook is funny as hell. by a round of applause, how do you feel?
- Dingle, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6"but after finding out that he had "coincidentally" came up with the same bits someone else did a few years before, I lost respect for him."
JFK kinda borrowed the quote: "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country".
Does that make you lose respect for him? - WhittneyDunn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2http://www.redban.com/audio/danesteals.mp3
and yet I still love him...is that wrong? - xosmexigalox, on 01/23/2009, -0/+0You dane cook haters are all gay! I'm sorry but there are a bunch of other comedians out there that steal their ideas from other comedians, and sure he says the same thing over and over again but hell that gives you time to get a drink or go take a piss! and all you ppl that think all the 13 yr old girls love him well your wrong, because im 13 and a girl and do not love him that way he is a great comedian but not someone i love. as soon as you ppl get your head out of your asses maybe you'll realize he's no different from any other comedian!.
- caseymuss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is one of the stupidest things Ive ever heard. IF YOU LIKE DANE COOK, YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE CROWD!!! The fact that all these geeks hate Dane Cook just goes to show that great minds think alike. In the words of Bill Hicks... "its a piece of sh#@t, now walk away"
- caseymuss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Carlos Mencia and Dane Cook are both the most untalented overrated idiots in today's comedy. I had no idea Dane stole his material and that is low. Dane gets by on his looks and is the biggest ham Ive ever witnessed. That is why 13 year old girls like him. Do you think 13 year old girls really know what is funny? Likewise, Mencia is just making money because Chappelle quit and comedy central knew they could capitalize on another minority act, except Mencia is not near as funny as Chapelle. If you do not realize this, you are the problem and why mediocrity will always prevail. I think Satre the play right said it best "bad poetry will always be popular"
- sealabcore, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1i love carlos mencia
- xosmexigalox, on 01/23/2009, -0/+0i think your right pookman, he's just like any other comedian and ppl calm the frick down and give the guy a break!
- fubuvsfitch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Coups bit stolen from Ron White.
- surfkevinsurf, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7I'm pretty sure that thousands of comedians steal thousands of jokes from thousands of other comedians. Dane Cook is just more famous than most and gets paid more to do it.
- catfud, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Bob Kelly made tourgasim
- skatinsteve89, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I'm intrigued, which "Kelly" is Mitch Hedberg alleged to have stolen material from? I must say that I have been a fan of Mitch for years and perhaps it has made me oblivious to the possibility that he has stolen material (which I will deny until given indisputable proof). One thing i will say is that after reviewing Steven Wright's stand up once again I found that Wright's and Hedberg's styles are moderately similar, but to call Hedberg a "knock-off" is obscene. But to the topic in question: Is Dane Cook funny? I submit that he is not, on the grounds that at least some of his material has been stolen, his delivery is stale, and his material that is "original" has been played to death. Face the facts, Dane Cook has come up with next to no new material since his catapult into the limelight, and the material that he has used has been delivered in the same way as it was originally delivered, with the same jejune mannerisms and intonations. Quite possibly the only thing that has upheld his stardom is his "rock-star" appeal, which is, in my opinion, more of a detriment to his routine than a venerable characteristic. Cook is so disdainfully arrogant and pompous that he cannot laugh at himself, and a sense of humility is a pivotal quality for any reputable comedian. I apologize if this comment seems obsolete due to the incredible number of people who share my same viewpoint, but I felt the need to express my opinion, even if it is concurrent with others.
- thok47, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Wow, talk about delusions of grandeur. Last I checked, companies continue to sell something as long as people are willing to buy it. Your goal should be to show how Dane is not funny rather than post stupid little clips like this, because until people stop buying his stuff and watching his specials, the companies who are shilling them will continue to make them. I have no doubt that Dane Cook won't always be as popular as he is now; few people are lucky enough to have incredibly long streaks of popularity in show business, no matter how they got there. Just don't delude yourself into thinking you had anything to do with it unless you can prove he gets his inspiration from eating small children in his underground lair.
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Dane Cook is just popular among the young crowd high school/early college crowd. Nobody will remember him in 10 years when he's an almost 50-year old guy.
Don't worry, when you get older you'll realize "why the ***** did I find this guy funny?". Thankfully I realized that he sucks at an early age. -
