- MWeather, on 01/30/2008, -12/+238That's one funny porch monkey.
It's OK. I'm taking it back. - MrBelding, on 01/30/2008, -3/+185Classic SNL piece..thanks for the refresh. This doesn't necessarily demonostrate it but Pryor had an unbelievable knack for making people laugh at the absurdity of life. If one sits through his rountines there are some great gems of social commentary beyond the surface.
- Po0py, on 01/30/2008, -1/+169I'd like to see them try getting away with the N word on SNL nowadays.
- wild, on 01/30/2008, -1/+131Makes me sad for kids today that the most controversial thing that happens on SNL is some blonde twit lipsynching...
- Kronos6948, on 01/30/2008, -2/+89Awesome skit that would never fly today, because of peoples PC oversensitivities. Mooney's writing is awesome, and Pryor and Chase's acting in this were equally awesome...Pryor came close to laughing near the end, when he was doing his facial twitch...Still, a great skit.
- MRintheKeys, on 01/30/2008, -6/+81Porch Monkey 4 Life
- zeejay, on 01/30/2008, -1/+58I can think of a number of comics that rank above Dane Cook. Like, just about all of them I've ever seen.
- hamhat, on 01/30/2008, -6/+62SNL was funny then; they used writers and performers from the National Lampoon radio hour.
What, you never heard of that? Do your own research and dont bitch @ me. NL Radio Hour was extremely funny, by the way - this one guy named Belushi took over the production end of it a few months into the broadcasts and did a swell job. Some other folks on NL radio hour were Gilda Radner and Chevy Chase.
When this sketch came along it really really threw folks for a loop, but at the time they took it in stride and went along with their lives. Folks just did their thing, back then in the mid-70s.
Today we have religious zealots whining if there is a bare ass or a tit on TV for 2 seconds. And the really sad/unfunny thing about that, is that most of the complaints to the FCC are from a very small group (look it up, dont take my word for it). So, through inaction (mostly) we have a handful of folks telling the rest of us what we can and cant watch on Tee-Vee.
That sketch was 30 years ago..I still dont have my flying car yet. We thought then that after the turn of the century things would be very different. I guess they are, but in very negative ways. We are more scared than ever, of our own shadows. We as a whole seem to hear each other less and less. The nation (yah Im American) is more divided than ever.
30 years ago (this sketch was in the 76-77-78 time frame, IIRC) we were still on that big surge of national pride from the Bicentennial. Nixon and his ***** admin was finally gone. Carter was in the white house (after jan 77 of course) and he was really a breath of fresh air, compared to what we all had just been though (Vietnam, Watergate, Oil embargo...plus other fun *****).
So, considering what we had been through (plus it was still the aftermath of the 60s) yes...this was funny. - socalrob, on 01/30/2008, -3/+56Dead Honkey!!
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -17/+70the politically correct crowd is going to bury this into oblivion
- ahoyhoy, on 01/30/2008, -1/+45The funniest part about Dane Cook's set is whenever he leaves.
- badwithcomputer, on 01/30/2008, -5/+43You know it's an SNL sketch because it just kinda trails off at the end... .. ............
- hamhat, on 01/30/2008, -2/+36no, the 'net was created in the late 1960s.
enjoy your FAIL cola! - redthirteen, on 01/30/2008, -1/+35Classic.
- arch3r, on 01/30/2008, -5/+36How dare you! That's it, I'm putting the sheeny curse on you.
- bratterscain, on 01/30/2008, -6/+36Back when SNL was good, though I barely remember. It was more spicy then and now it's pretty bland.
- uberchaoslord, on 01/30/2008, -2/+29You're dumb if you think pryor wasn't about social commentary. sure he swore a lot, but a lot of his stuff was social or political.
- inajeep, on 01/30/2008, -0/+25Your right but that skit did more to show just how racist people can be and how utterly stupid they can be too. There was depth to that skit that many many people missed then and still do today.
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -3/+28He earned it. Anyone who can smoke cocaine, have the damn pipe explode and catch them on fire, survive 2nd degree burns and a cocaine-induced stroke, then get back on stage and make jokes about it...automatically wins.
- IphtashuFitz, on 01/30/2008, -2/+26SNL? Hell, the N word on a live newscast would probably be enough to get fined by the FCC these days. It's a pretty sad commentary on modern day conservatism that a great comedian like Richard Pryor probably couldn't do what he used to do on tv if he was still around.
- jupaneanu, on 01/30/2008, -3/+25this one never gets old!
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+21English + you = fail.
- johnnybluejeans, on 01/30/2008, -0/+21I'm quite sure that most of Richard Pryor's standup material was unsuitable for television in the 70s, as it still would be today. Too many MFs, Fs, etc... As for the N word, Richard Pryor eventually stopped using it in all his material after visiting Africa.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 01/30/2008, -1/+22You see, white people can use THAT word, provided we are threatened by death shortly thereafter, and its funny.
- ZachSka87, on 01/30/2008, -3/+23Comedy Central ranks Richard Pryor above Dane Cook in their top comics of all time lineup. In fact, Richard Pryor was number 1.
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -1/+21I'm British and Dane Cook hasn't reached our shores yet, fortunately. I've seen clips on YouTube and he sucks a LOT. So I ask:
What with all your guns etc over there in America, can someone go a little out of their way and shoot him point blank in the face before he gets any more popular?
Thanks - Gryffydd, on 01/30/2008, -2/+21The first time I heard that name I thought to myself...wtf? Then I moved to Jonesboro, AR, and I drove through what locals called "Brown Town" and wow...Every single porch had at least 3 or 4 people on it--and this was at about 10AM.
Not that this means anything other than that stereotypes have to start somewhere.... - joaob, on 01/30/2008, -0/+18Dane Cook is the funniest man in Chernobyl
- Waskonator, on 01/30/2008, -0/+17I have this on Video Disk... remember those? Video Disks......
- wtfdan, on 01/30/2008, -2/+19They do, as long as black people are saying it.
- mrblonde314, on 01/30/2008, -1/+18You don't like comedians that just SCREAM stupid, unfunny ***** into the microphone? That must mean you also don't like people who are damn near 35 and pretend to be 22. In turn you must hate terrible actors. Psh, you and your dry British humor, I'll never understand it.
- hatdrop, on 01/30/2008, -1/+18good thing i'm a politically incorrect leftist cause i love richard pryor for his social commentary
top stand up of all time
1. pryor
2. carlin - unrequited, on 01/30/2008, -1/+18Wow, $15k is about $7.00/hr, and was about 4x minimum wage.
- sv650touring, on 01/30/2008, -1/+18In Soviet Russia, unfunny jokes tell Dane Cook
- ahoyhoy, on 01/30/2008, -1/+17He was quoting a "black" rapper, so it was technically allowed.
South Park is the show that really got away with it. - liquidhalcyon, on 01/30/2008, -1/+16As in Wine. *****.
- BabaRamDass, on 01/30/2008, -1/+16I'm in Conway, and not only are there black porch monkeys but we have white porch monkeys and hispanic porch monkeys. I'm with Randall: "porch monkey" has never had a racial connotation for me; it just means people that hang out on porches--down here in the South there are many and of various races.
- BabaRamDass, on 01/30/2008, -0/+15I love the irony that is Brad getting buried...
- SanTe, on 01/30/2008, -1/+16For me it's:
1. Hicks
2. Pryor
3. Carlin
but at that level of greatness the positions are pretty much interchangeable. - johnnybluejeans, on 01/30/2008, -0/+14Will Farell uses it on the Robert Goulet skit.
- leadingzero, on 01/30/2008, -11/+24older than the internet...
- MJDub, on 01/30/2008, -1/+14"Pryor came close to laughing near the end, when he was doing his facial twitch..."
A lot better than Jimmy Fallon ever did. - scrumpy, on 01/30/2008, -2/+15Need some help with the ass stick?
- BigLLamasHouse, on 01/30/2008, -1/+13National Lampoons Vacation? Spies Like Us? Cmon now
- orangefly, on 01/30/2008, -0/+12for the love of god....caddyshack....
- codehkr77, on 01/30/2008, -3/+15Perfect example of how an interview can go wrong.... but 15k? a year? wow
- liquidhalcyon, on 01/30/2008, -1/+13This sketch was so good, I'm gonna go watch Boss ***** again!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:BossNiggerPoste ... - DemDude, on 01/30/2008, -1/+12Hell, if I had a decent porch, I'd be sitting on it all day. With my Laptop and music, of course.
And man, except for my black hair, I am chalky white. Well, with a bit of pink... - Cwo655321, on 01/30/2008, -1/+12you're getting buried because its been on here at least 5 times.
- JanYpe, on 01/30/2008, -0/+10Way to miss the point guys.
