- jeromeerome, on 10/12/2007, -31/+271I think Digg should implement a system that automatically deletes any post that has a description of "Title Says It All".
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+148THIS IS FAKE - here's a blog post from the creators
We have received a lot of inquiries whether or not "Religious Freaks Gone Wild" is real or not. There has been a tremendous amount of discussion and controversy surrounding the subject since we posted the video clip online in March.
We will settle it once and for all. Right here, right now.
"Religious Freaks Gone Wild!" is a reality based Video Clip/Movie that involves 4 Actors. The idea was conceived and directed by David Branin. The Actors playing the two roommates are Daniel Sol and Frantz Durand. The two religious solicitors are Actors Karen Worden and Brian Durkin.
We were anticipating and hoping for thousands of viewers. It has now been seen by over a million people world-wide. All have their own interpretations of the clip.
It was shot in 3 takes in less than an hour. That was due to time restraints and also a limited supply of water baloons.
The religious solicitors in the clip never come out and say which religion they are. Daniel's character assumes they are Jehova's Witnesses as they are most associated with going door to door. They were made to be generic. We didn't want to be hunted down by any Religious Group. They are not Jehovah's Witnesses, they are not Mormons, etc. They don't even match, Karen is wearing a blue skirt and Brian is wearing black pants. A man and woman were intentionally paired up as that is something you wouldn't see.
We did it because we thought it could be funny, entertaining, and that it could shock people. It is also not out of the realm of possibility that something like this could happen. Many have come out and reported comparable stories.
For those who would like to see it all over again,
here it is, Religious Freaks Gone Wild! - crazyjeff0, on 10/12/2007, -23/+145I can understand the god-freaks getting pissed, but whatever happened to turn the other cheek?
- xenofiend, on 10/12/2007, -60/+171@16X9
How can you side with those weirdos? The proper response for the weirdos should have been to leave the property immediately. I would have beat that freak down ( or at least tried ) as soon as he touched me. I'll never run from somebody on my own land. My property, my body, my right to kick ass. - t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -10/+106Very funny.
But please everybody stop using "Title says it all" it bugs the crap out of me. - nicepants, on 10/12/2007, -1/+96They're all actors, read the website:
http://www.dreamregimeproductions.com/religiousfreaks.html - guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -10/+96Title says it all?
How many religious freaks are involved?
Where does this take place?
When does it take place?
Do they strip off their cloths and run through the streets asking for beads, or do they climb the Empire States Building and start pelting passing planes with Bibles?
Don't be a gimp. Use a description.
And it's obviously fake. - d00ley, on 10/12/2007, -26/+87I can't believe any fool thought this was actually real.
- d7415, on 10/12/2007, -14/+54Yes, they have the right to say things, but water hitting people is hardly a proportionate response for being hit by a water balloon - especially on THEIR property, and when you're trying to preach a message of peace.
Probably fake, but if you're using the free speech defense, it doesn't cover violence. - SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -46/+82This video, even if it is fake, demonstrates that persecution, attacking people for their beliefs and taking joy in human suffering and the humiliation of others is a human trait that isn't exclusive to the religious. Atheists can't take the moral high ground if their willing to resort to ambushing and attacking the religious, no matter how irritating they are. There's a huge difference between ringing someone's doorbell and attacking someone with a water balloon.
Anyone can come leave an advertising flier on my door, or ring my bell and ask if I want a vacuum cleaner or Jesus or an air filtration system but I can't pretend to be better than them if I decide to attack them. - roomforpanic, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34@dagonweb
Uh, good luck with life, my angry friend. - GiJoeBob, on 10/12/2007, -7/+36Looks and sounds staged to me.
- technonoob, on 10/12/2007, -9/+31I agree, it's fake
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27My god this is the 10th post with me in the description! If you love me so much make a fan club for me.
- netwookiee, on 10/12/2007, -8/+27This is staged.
- purecheese, on 10/12/2007, -10/+29Its a total fake, not even that funny.
- picaro, on 10/12/2007, -10/+26This looks staged.
- picaro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19The Jehova's Witnesses are acting like bad parodies of themselves -- not real people. How many serious missionaries do you know that use "you're going to hell" as a comeback?
- roomforpanic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18@rompom7
"As much as they are allowed to go door to door and preach what ever the ***** they want, so is my right to throw water balloons at them. Both are harmless, both are annoying as *****."
Actually, you don't have the right to throw water balloons at them, whether they are on your property or not. It's considered an act of battery. Don't believe me? Try throwing a water balloon at the postman next time he drops some mail in your slot. - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I don't think those were JWs. They don't usually invite you to social events and crap. The baptists where I used to live did the door-to-door thing, and they were big on social stuff. Plus, JWs don't believe in hell (not the flaming kind anyway) so it seems unlikely one would use it as a threat.
- Thater, on 10/31/2007, -9/+21Obviously fake, poorly improvised dialogue, two dimensional characters, flat acting. thumbs down.
Also not funny. - SIDSI, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I agree its fake, also the male and female playing the parts of the door to door religious people are not very good actors.
- homercaholic18, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Why do people keep posting how videos on Digg are way old and they dont know how they got to the front page?? This is the laziest and stupidest comment one can make, and its obvious some people haven't seen it or else it wouldn't get to the front page, so who cares if its old??
- JasonPrini, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16fake
- freegrace, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Fake
Their dress says they are Mormons, sans the Elder/Sister name badge. A baptist would never wear clothes that even hinted at being a Mormon.
When these types of folks do their door to door work, they hear and see way more than a few water balloons. Unless this was their first day (which the video says they are back so it cannot be) they would likely not respond so quickly to this type of mild provocation.
Dugg down for being not only a fake, but a lame fake. - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"In the end, they are people too. I just wish they would accept that their ideals are not everyone else's and let others decide for themselves what faith they wish to believe in, or not to believe in."
It's not like they put a gun to your head and force you to convert. "No" is always an option. Usually, they'll politely leave. - ScottyMo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13That seems staged to me. I can't put my finger on it, but it just doesn't sound real.
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Mormons also don't travel in male/female pairs. It's either two males or two females.
I've known a lot of mormons who did missionary work when I lived in Utah. They get attacked quite frequently. Sometimes it's violent but mostly it's verbal abuse. One guy I knew was beaten by a man with a baseball bat and then had a pitbull sent after him. A few have even been killed. It's really disturbing if you think of it. Especially if you consider the frequently proposed hypothesis of many atheists, that religion causes violence and intolerance. Videos like this and tales of the violence against missionaries makes it quite obvious that people cause violence and intolerance, not religions. - moovitz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Has anyone ever tried to digg down comments on youtube and then sighed with realized it's not possible?
off topic i know... but curious. anyways, back on topic...
We use to live right near a JW kingdom and we would get them every day.. Never heard them call us brothers though (though the socialist party door-to-door'ers use to call us comrade). But my roommate and I use to try and convert them to a made-up religion. We soon found out that is why they go in pairs, just in case one falls victim to curiosity of other beliefs.
In the end, they are people too. I just wish they would accept that their ideals are not everyone else's and let others decide for themselves what faith they wish to believe in, or not to believe in. - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12They weren't JWs. It was totally staged.
- gravytop, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10They don't have the right? What right are you talking about? 1st Amendment? If so, like it or not, I don't think that legal precedent bears that out.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in hellfire. No eternal torment.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@tikistyle -
Jehovah's Witnesses most certainly DO believe in the Bible. And going door to door has nothing to do with getting into heaven. In fact, the next time Witnesses come to your door, as them if they think they will be going to heaven. You may be surprised to hear them respond with "No" and that they have no desire to be in heaven. Ask them where they think they will go. - nicepants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7From their website
"Religious freaks gone wild is a reality based video clip/movie that involves 4 actors"
The 2 "religious solicitors" are actors Karen Worden and Brian Durkin. - Moloth, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15Staged. Fake. slightly amusing... meh.
- punkrokkr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I'm a Christian and although I find it annoying that Jehovah's Witnesses go door-to-door, I think they have that right, as does anyone else. I would find it annoying if atheists did it, but I wouldn't say they didn't have the right. I don't agree with JW theology; however, it is somewhat embarrassing that they would go door-to-door and other Christians don't.
- quisph, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Buried as inaccurate. Not because it's fake, which it is, but because the words "gone wild" imply an entirely different kind of video :)
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Those aren't the words of an athiest."
Hilter was actually an occultist. He was pandering to the church in that speech. - mlvassallo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"-I am an atheist because:
1. I was never brainwashed by my parents to believe in a god!
2. I am too intelligent to believe in something with no evidence!
3. I do not fear death, therefore don't need to invent a way to live forever!"
You need to read some C.S. Lewis. - aceallways, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5you are clearly lieing as no JW would ask if you wanted to talk about being saved
- sethdfowler, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8This is obviously fake.
1. How do you fill water balloons that fast? (oh, I always have some water balloons lying around)
2. The girl kept correcting the guy about things like the time of the service.
3. Seemed like they were waiting for for the water balloons to be thrown at them like some sort of bad stage que. - SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Well, the governments of China and Russia killed over 100 MILLION people in the 20th century alone. All the religions put together don't even approach that kind of death toll. They aren't even come close.
But let's not forget that the crusades weren't religious wars, they were political and economic. The king of Europe wanted to control Jerusalem because it was an important trade route and could make them wealthy. Religion was merely the outward justification to hide their real reasons. - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"At least tele-marketers have a 'do not call' list."
JWs have a similar list, actually. - kickarse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@DagonWeb - A JW's point isn't to argue. Believing what Jesus himself said to be true, that "not everyone will come into the kingdom". Not everyone is going to believe what they're saying. The point isn't to argue and it's your choice to not listen.
Plus, they won't be praying for your soul 15 years from now. As well if you've set something in your mind no matter what anyone else says you'll believe what you believe. The reasoning could have been solid but if your unreasoning then it wouldn't matter. They also believe what Jesus said that you "cannot reason with unreasoning ones". - korea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+44. You are a 15 year old know-it-all and can't perceive life after 18 let alone your own mortality.
5. Minimizing the beliefs of others is becoming the cool thing to be on the Internet because it aligns well with the arrogant facades of intelligence and anonymous claims of intellectual superiority.
6. You are in actuality, not intelligent enough to discern that this is a fake video, or able to formulate a comment that relates to the video at all.
7. Getting ready for a yet another miserable day at high school - pcshen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Digg is where you can fine one of the most intollerant view points of religion. Seems like all every week there some article concerning atheist and their "victory" over religion or how "stupid religious" people are. It get's alittle old. Whether your a atheist, christian, or muslim, can't people learn to respect one another. It seems to me that these stories are only perpetuating the very thing they accuse religious people of being, intollerant.
- UtopianComplex, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8@arkmtech
Can you not what? Can you not call people that believe in Jesus Christ and the bible christians because you don't like other things they say and think they makes Christians look bad?
Cuz if that is your question, then the answer is:
No you can't redefine what Christianity just to have a good PR campaign. - banderbe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7You idiots need to get a history lesson.
Mao, Pol Pot, Stalin, etc., etc. History is over-flowing with examples of atheist regimes slaughtering hundreds of millions of people. - Mimmiroo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You tube is such a inter-bitch! It wont load it Dx
Whats up with all these anti-religious clips anyways? -
