RealPlayer: Buffering [PIC]
i32.tinypic.com — Buffering the technology that provides you with slow digital entertainment.
- 3600 diggs
- digg it
- GJempire11, on 03/14/2008, -2/+764How do they stay in business. They have to be the all time worst media player ever!
- GuerillaC, on 03/14/2008, -3/+175I don't think it's that...buffering....buffering.........
- zephyr42, on 03/14/2008, -38/+6I would have been a little more direct with a sign that said something like "HORSE *****"
- JesseRuth89, on 03/14/2008, -0/+44But Horse ***** still serves a purpose
- Mahstah, on 03/14/2008, -2/+32Think RealPlayer's bad? Try loading a Digg page with Firefox. CPU=100% for 10s every time. No power system here, but should be better. P4 2.8 1.5GB RAM.
- isewise, on 03/15/2008, -1/+22Yea, I hate when I open a digg story page that has like 500+ comments. Slows down Firefox like molasses in the winter.
- therightclique, on 03/15/2008, -1/+16when thousands of comment systems and forums have been able to manage the same thing almost instantly for years.
- GawtMilk, on 03/15/2008, -0/+5Opening three or more pages from "My Comments" crashes FireFox instantly. I'm on my Photoshop workstation, too. Four gigabytes of RAM, 2GHz Core 2 Duo, Vista Ultimate. It doesn't make sense, the only time I *EVER* have a system meltdown is when I'm browsing Digg.
- Verdanic, on 03/15/2008, -6/+2Thennn do it on OS X. If it's molasses in winter on Windows, it's just a boulder on OS X.
- PullingTeeth, on 03/15/2008, -2/+4Please take your trolling and gtfo
- Verdanic, on 03/15/2008, -1/+3How the ***** is that trolling? Everybody is being accused of that now with no reason. I was pointing out that it's even worse on Firefox for OS X. I don't see where the ***** trolling aspect comes in.
Look at my past comments if you think I'm a troll, okay? - TomFrost, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1I'm here for ya', Verdanic. I absolutely love my macs, but Firefox on them is a joke in an of itself compared to WebKit. Loading a popular Digg story or two with it grinds it to a halt every time. I'm sticking with WebKit!
- funkyjunk3, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1I've found K-melon is at least stable. K-Melon is based of the same Gecko rendering engine as firefox, however it is MUCH leaner, without the memory hogging annoyance of Firefox. Digg comments still load slow, but it doesnt crash.
- DarkSamus, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1thought you were talking about the chief architect there
- elnerdo, on 03/15/2008, -0/+4Don't blame Firefox. Digg is just an awfully coded website.
- isewise, on 03/15/2008, -1/+22Yea, I hate when I open a digg story page that has like 500+ comments. Slows down Firefox like molasses in the winter.
- qwerter, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1That would have been unfunny, and not made the front page of Digg. I think they made the right choice.
- gotacalc, on 03/14/2008, -3/+31This just proves that Real life sucks.
- roadtripper, on 03/14/2008, -1/+110no kidding. no offense to any Real Player employees, but whenever i see *any* site that uses or requires Real Player to watch a video/listen to music, i can't jump URLs quick enough. i'm amazed people/sites still continue to use Real Player.
- JAGUART, on 03/14/2008, -0/+91With offense to Real Player employees and executives, your company is *****.
- nitesoulja, on 03/14/2008, -8/+6alot of asian sites use .ram >
- thecheatah, on 03/15/2008, -17/+2Just to let you know why sites use realplayer. One song can be stored at about 1mb at a quality that none can complain about. Saves the server lots of BW
- Frustian, on 03/15/2008, -0/+17I can and will complain about it. Both the low bitrate files they have, and that they are using realplayer.
- therightclique, on 03/15/2008, -0/+15that would have been an acceptable description of real player in 1998, but not now.
- HydrogenOxide, on 03/14/2008, -87/+3I think VLC is pretty bad
- ThinkBox, on 03/14/2008, -0/+42Lemme guess, you are on your lunch break from REAL HQ....
VLC is awesome. - TomFrost, on 03/14/2008, -0/+26Bury the troll, block the troll.. just don't feed it.
- melonhedd, on 03/14/2008, -3/+19Why does VLC use a progress bar as a volume control? Why doesn't the seek control work right?
- therightclique, on 03/15/2008, -0/+19VLC's interface is pure garbage, but its feature set and capabilities are amazing. and they don't have ads everywhere and it just ***** works. if it had a media player classic like interface, it'd be my only media player.
- etherreal, on 03/15/2008, -6/+1Kind of. I have had the worst luck with VLC.
- Verdanic, on 03/15/2008, -1/+11It plays anything. ever. you could feed it a .doc and it would animate it. Brilliant.
(mind you, on OS X... not so hot.) - burkhartmj, on 03/15/2008, -0/+18.6 actually kicks ass on OSX. They improved the interface a lot and [not sure if it crashed before but] it doesn't crash very often at all now. Got my Mac friend to start using it and he's lovin it.
- therightclique, on 03/15/2008, -0/+19VLC's interface is pure garbage, but its feature set and capabilities are amazing. and they don't have ads everywhere and it just ***** works. if it had a media player classic like interface, it'd be my only media player.
- zephyr42, on 03/14/2008, -5/+13VLC will play *anything*
- filefly, on 03/15/2008, -0/+14I'm not really up on the lingo these days, but according to a younger, more hip friend of mine, "bad" now means "good." This comment now makes much more sense.
- therightclique, on 03/15/2008, -0/+10you're thinking of the early 90s, dude.
- burgermind, on 03/15/2008, -1/+8Or the 80s
- nshady, on 03/15/2008, -0/+5I have it on good authority that he's actually thinking of the 1740s.
- ThinkBox, on 03/14/2008, -0/+42Lemme guess, you are on your lunch break from REAL HQ....
- mateusap, on 03/14/2008, -1/+21Ad-ware, of course.
- Matt2k, on 03/14/2008, -1/+32Well, I can remember back in '95 the first time listing to a "CD quality" broadcast stream through real player and being just mesmerized by the possibilities. This was when dialup or if you were fortunate enough to have ISDN was the standard means of access.
They've sustained, and ruined themselves since with an overly aggressive marketing and sales department that brokers deals with people who don't know any better. And a sneaky website that does everything in its power to hide the free version.- Celeron, on 03/15/2008, -6/+4What are you talking about? You can obtain the free version straight from their homepage, and it's only one click. Not that I'm promoting their ***** player or anything.
- therightclique, on 03/15/2008, -0/+12to be fair, it has traditionally been very difficult to find the free version. 10 years ago, i used to make audio and video files for my website, using dial up.... real producer... it was actually good and ad-free back then. just like how everyone used to use ICQ, and now just about nobody has heard of it. it was 1337er than digg is.
- Celeron, on 03/15/2008, -6/+4What are you talking about? You can obtain the free version straight from their homepage, and it's only one click. Not that I'm promoting their ***** player or anything.
- qwkredfox, on 03/14/2008, -1/+110That "Buffering..." paper was there for 4 months because the Real Player Employees were soo used to seeing it no one noticed.
- DrywallThief, on 03/15/2008, -1/+24Nah, they noticed right away. It just took them a while to walk over to it with all that buffering per step and all.
- themoose, on 03/14/2008, -1/+12They make it so impossibly hard to uninstall that people just *have* to use it.
- KhaaL, on 03/14/2008, -1/+20I'll propably get dugg down for saying this, but real player for linux isn't *that* bad. It's way cleaner that it's windows counterpart.
But it still can't beat mplayer and VLC.- JosephStalin, on 03/15/2008, -1/+11Yep. On Linux and OS X Real Player is actually a decent player. Has a clean interface, doesn't start itself on boot, doesn't steal file extensions, etc. The Windows version, on the other hand, deserves all of the hatred it gets. It's an system hijacking piece of *****. Still, I don't use it on Linux or OS X. Whatever VLC doesn't play Mplayer does, so I don't see the point in installing it.
- aiten, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2Yep, Realplayer for Linux is clean, slick, and very fast. There are no ads - I think that's the real difference!
Of course I too use VLC by default.
- JosephStalin, on 03/15/2008, -1/+11Yep. On Linux and OS X Real Player is actually a decent player. - mrASSMAN, on 03/15/2008, -14/+8WMP isn't much better.
- Frustian, on 03/15/2008, -2/+9Actually it is, it's less bloated and doesn't have adware and spyware.
WMP is still very bloated, uses bad codecs, and is nearly impossible to uninstall though.- mrASSMAN, on 03/15/2008, -2/+2sure, it's just crapware.
- wolfboyZ, on 03/15/2008, -0/+0That's what WMP Classic is for.
- gommle, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2MPC, not WMPC
- Frustian, on 03/15/2008, -2/+9Actually it is, it's less bloated and doesn't have adware and spyware.
- univerio, on 03/15/2008, -6/+16I'll probably get dugg down, but hear me out. RealPlayer is not that bad. Streaming might be slow, but the RealMedia format is really efficient. Comparing rmvb and divx files there is a huge difference in size (about 400MB for a decent movie vs. 600~700MB). This is a very popular format in Asia because of the high quality-size ratio.
- theAlice, on 03/15/2008, -2/+8That's a good point. Too bad other players can play those files. :D
- se1zure, on 03/15/2008, -10/+5I actually qui....buffering....te enjoy real player!
- chrispix, on 03/15/2008, -1/+11I hate realplayer, at work there are training programs that have been purchased from 3rd parties that show the video portions in realplayer ONLY. While being a 100% windows (digg me down, what ever) shop, realplayer sucks the big fat one. With their free version installing all kinds of other crap, trying to find the free version on their website is hard enough. Back in the day they had a superior product (pretty much the only one that could do live streaming). Now their sound quality is like a phone call, it just sucks. The highs and lows are all muted together, it just sucks quality wise.
I would also like to add my frustration with QuickTime. Both of these two formats can go to hell in a handbasket for all I care. You know the one good thing about windows media player? It does not get packaged with spy/crap ware (unless you consider windows crapware of course!). I for one digg media player classic.- burgermind, on 03/15/2008, -3/+6Yeah, quicktime sucks... At least it does on windows.
- aiten, on 03/15/2008, -2/+2No it just sucks.
OH NO! YOU CAN'T FULLSCREEN IT, BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT!
What a load of ... buffering ... 2% ...
- aiten, on 03/15/2008, -2/+2No it just sucks.
- burgermind, on 03/15/2008, -3/+6Yeah, quicktime sucks... At least it does on windows.
- NoMercy, on 03/15/2008, -4/+6umm have u ever watched porn....for some reason the porn industry loves them
- MasterThief117, on 03/15/2008, -3/+7Should be called 'RealSlowPlayer'.
- bmwboy2844, on 03/15/2008, -1/+4Rhapsody. Rhapsody is pretty nice, decently priced, and really convenient when you just want to be able to stream music hasslefree.
- desqjockey, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2BBC radio one makes me keep a copy on my machine to listen. The alternative player always screws up.
- C3RV4NTE5, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1LOL, Didn't know this crap was still around.
- kaelyiesta, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1Rhapsody, rolling stone, real arcade, real music store... they have plenty of teams besides the real player team that help keep the business in business.
- TGMD, on 03/14/2008, -55/+11I remember when real player was actually good... I used to have real player and real jukebox... ahh those were good times...
Then they got stupid... well stupider.. I moved around but WMP 11 is a great media player I just hope MS doesn't screw it up... well any more that is.- thenativeraver, on 03/14/2008, -12/+78VLC>all other media players=True!
- TGMD, on 03/14/2008, -24/+4VLC is great but if you have a massive video/audio library WMP 11 is great...
- slippiefist, on 03/14/2008, -1/+6WMP doesn't read the tags on my mp3s most of the time. I use mp3tag and make sure all tags are complete, but WMP still sees unknown artist/unknown album most of the time. foobar2000 is my music player of choice, and GOM Player for movies. VLC is too temperamental, it keeps crashing when I change skins or when I play certain movie files that GOM can play without a problem.
- Verdanic, on 03/15/2008, -1/+2GOM is beautiful.
- sarixe, on 03/14/2008, -6/+3itunes pwns wmp11... and itunes SUCKS
- Napalmhaze, on 03/14/2008, -2/+9iTunes makes for a great library when you have a large collection. Exactly why does itunes suck? Its no amarok thats for sure but its a long way from suck!
- ZeroDreams, on 03/15/2008, -1/+1iTunes sucks because it is a memory hog. and mac or PC itunes just works wrong, sure its great if you have an ipod, but seriously on my computer at home it takes 3 minutes to load a library list... how is that good? if you actually buy songs from iTunes the quality is crappy and includes DRM. yay! VLC pretty much plays most things decently, it does not like subtitles at all...
- Napalmhaze, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1It aint perfect, but so what, its a little slow to load up! Big deal! Tehre are lots of little features including the store u can turn on and off. It keeps all yr music neatly organised, you can even customise the way its organised and the what information is shown about each track. As for it hogging memory, it might do but not to the point its noticeable. Wanna see a memory hog? Look at firefox, and then look at how many people love that, Fact is our computers can handle it so why not!
Oh and until Amarok gets ported to windows or songbird becomes a stable decent prog, itunes is the best player/library software there is. Oh and as for f00bar and vlc, they have their uses, and are great tools to have on yr pc, but they aint all that they people make them out to be, theyre just lightweight players, no big deal! I dunno, do people just think its cool to say they use these programs or what?
- slippiefist, on 03/14/2008, -1/+6WMP doesn't read the tags on my mp3s most of the time. - sarixe, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1gstreamer > mplayer
- oneoverzero, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2xine>gstreamer
i prefer vlc and mplayer to it though.
- oneoverzero, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2xine>gstreamer
- sarixe, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1gstreamer > mplayer
- TGMD, on 03/14/2008, -24/+4VLC is great but if you have a massive video/audio library WMP 11 is great...
- longbow486, on 03/14/2008, -1/+36WinAmp (before they got bought by AOL)
- blindmonkey, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3Before they got bought by AOL, yes, now, I'd go with foobar2k.
- etherreal, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1foobar for Vista and QCD for XP.
- Verdanic, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1It's just fine for me, only using the Media Library tab and turning off everything else I can - it has great sound output. It urks me a little bit to see the AOL logo every now and then when i have to download a new version or whatever, but that's about it. I'm not giving any money to AOL and I don't have to see any advertising.
- blindmonkey, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3Before they got bought by AOL, yes, now, I'd go with foobar2k.
- mradules, on 03/14/2008, -15/+10Media Player Classic with K-lite codec pack. Nuff said.
- xsquirrel378x, on 03/14/2008, -12/+3codec packs suck tit. get the codecs you NEED and install them yourself
- Patori, on 03/14/2008, -7/+5Again... why get codecs? VLC exists.
- xsquirrel378x, on 03/15/2008, -1/+1probably because VLC is only used for decoding and also not everyone uses it
- saisumimen, on 03/15/2008, -1/+7CCCP.
- Maver1c, on 03/15/2008, -2/+3I completely disagree with the other replies to your comment mradules. It sounds to me like they are vlc fanboys who have never tried mpc or at least havent fully looked through it, not too mention that the k-lite codec pack is wonderful. I use VLC for many things, and it DOES play almost anything. That being said, I prefer MPC for most video file types because its toolbar options are much more indepth, and shows more statistics that i need when working on videos of my own. One other thing I have noticed about VLC is that the colors in any video I play seem to be slightly desaturated compared to videos i play in MPC and other media players. I've tested it on two computers, but I am not sure if it has something to do with my computers alone. Either way, that's one more reason to view my media in MPC.
- Napalmhaze, on 03/14/2008, -19/+11Why dig a guy down cos he says he likes WMP? Oh yes, this is digg and WMP is a microsoft product so cant possibly be any good in a diggers eyes?
The guy is right! WMP is a great media player. I dont choose it all the time for everything I want to play but I dont dislike to use it either, for its not broken. WMP11 with its library thing is pretty good. And the guy with the problems with his tags, thats probably the way his tags are formatted cos I've never seen this problem before.
But it is true that real player completely sucks!- slippiefist, on 03/14/2008, -1/+4Tags are formatted as APEv2 (ID3v1, ID3v2.3, APEv2), and some are FLAC. foobar never has a problem reading them.
- Napalmhaze, on 03/14/2008, -0/+4Its an odd problem I've never encountered. All my mp3s are tagged the same way and I've no trouble displaying them with WMP neither does it have any problems with the artwork imbeded in the tag. I Personally use powerdvd, GOM and WMP for video and Itunes amarok and winamp for music, all depending on what computer im using, my mood and time of the month. But theres really nothing wrong with WMP and i'd be well miffed if MS suddenly stopped including it with windows.
- slippiefist, on 03/14/2008, -3/+2I think WMP is a very good movie player because it does fullscreen mode right. Other players put the fullscreen controls in odd places or the movie jumps/resizes when the fullscreen controls are shown/hidden. And you can make the WMP fullscreen controls fully transparent on Vista. See JRiver Media Center for an example of fullscreen done wrong.
- Verdanic, on 03/15/2008, -1/+3GOM player does fullscreen perfectly. If that's the only thing WMP does well, it doesn't come close to a decent player.
- slippiefist, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1@Verdanic:
GOM is my movie player of choice as I mentioned above, but it only does fullscreen ALMOST perfectly. Fullscreen controls can't be made 100% transparent in GOM. Other than that it's perfect.
- slippiefist, on 03/14/2008, -3/+2I think WMP is a very good movie player because it does fullscreen mode right. Other players put the fullscreen controls in odd places or the movie jumps/resizes when the fullscreen controls are shown/hidden. - ghank, on 03/14/2008, -6/+18Wrong. VLC player FTW. Windows, Linux, Mac compatible. Never had a codec issue with it.
- PleaseJustDie, on 03/14/2008, -6/+5I prefer XBMC connecting to my linux file server with samba so I can watch my video's while kicked back on the couch, myself.
But if I'm not at home then VLC is FTW.- fuzed, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1Yup, I'm hard pressed to find a hardware solution better than XBMC for displaying a plethora of different media types. it's only flaw is that its not powerful enough to play 1080p content. Outside of that its an awesome solution.
- SmilinBob82, on 03/14/2008, -1/+5media player classic, with CCCP is the way to go
- SpogZallagi, on 03/15/2008, -1/+1I use VLC for vids because all I have to do is change the little extension thing on the file (i.e. Beavis and Butthead Do America.wmv becomes Beavis and Butthead Do America.avi) and it'll play. VLC plays about anything which is really funny. WMP I use for music, I used to use...I can't remember the name, I think it was Jukebox something rather, that I gave up for WMP. I don't like Itunes and I HATE Real Player.
- therodersabides, on 03/14/2008, -7/+257While this picture is as old as the internets, it still makes me smile every time.

- tas08, on 03/14/2008, -6/+20Reading thought the comments, I was just waiting for someone to stupidly reply to to a comment without using the reply button so I could tell them they were a stupid ass. However you've been dugg up which confounds me... oh well.
You stupid ass!

- EuphoricAgony, on 03/14/2008, -19/+14Buried for being as old as the Internet. I remember when I had dial-up and I had to wait 30 second to see this slightly amusing picture.
- SpogZallagi, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1HA! I'm still USING dial up. I just happen to live in the rusty old non internet country portion of Maine. Yeah internet land is actually four miles away in the next town >:( But noooooo, I can't possibly get highspeed because I'm so rural.
- cokaine, on 03/14/2008, -24/+15This is the 4th time this has been dug up!!!! BURY IT!!
- HyperJack, on 03/14/2008, -5/+8Well i didn't see it the first three times round, so shut the ***** up and stop moaning. Just because you've seen it, it doesn't mean everyone else has! Arrogant wanker!
- davidwasman, on 03/14/2008, -9/+4No, YOU f*ck off you newb
people like you are ruining digg and making re-run f*cking central.- Verdanic, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2How the ***** often are you on here to catch only 'reruns'?

- historicity, on 03/14/2008, -7/+1Don't you mean Khazakstan?
- daedalous, on 03/14/2008, -0/+43My school does for some unknown reason. Then again, my computer teacher is an old man who thinks irfanview can completely replace Photoshop. /sob
- grumpyrain, on 03/14/2008, -1/+17Irfanview FTW
... but no, it can not replace photoshop. - Mike89, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2For some reason, a few of the labs at my school are full of PCs that try to install Realplayer Gold every time you open a new tab in IE7. I guess they practically included malware in the software image.
- grumpyrain, on 03/14/2008, -1/+17Irfanview FTW
- fxu1989, on 03/14/2008, -0/+8I don't use the player, but I still watch rm/rmvb here and there .. when I don't give a ***** about quality ..... Thank God they invented Real Alternative.
- Atomic05, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3Actually, isn't Real Alternative just one of the older versions of Windows Media Player with a few tweaks?
- therightclique, on 03/15/2008, -0/+4no, sir, it is not. real alternative is a codec. it INCLUDES media player classic, but it is not media player classic in and of itself.
- solidus636, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3VLC needs to start supporting rmvb and rm files.
- fxu1989, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3I think it has something to do with the rm/rmvb codecs being patented/copyright/trademark (by real player)... w/e .... After a certain amount of years of being "private," it becomes public/free ... I don't really know how long, but in a couple of years.
- Mike89, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1It's like 70, for copyright..

- bxblox, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3CBS used it recently for its on demand services online. I believe they have recently switched to a buggy no frills player that doesn't let you seek. You know, that player thats used to watch cam movies on those link sites.
- kreneskyp, on 03/14/2008, -4/+3ALOT of people do, they just don't know it. Anyone with verizon vcast is using realplayer. Alot of people with cellphones get it preinstalled.
- bunkka, on 03/14/2008, -0/+4BBC radio uses it
- falafelkiosken, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3complete ***** morons

- Branchex, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3miro does it
- mcnic, on 03/15/2008, -1/+2My uncle was for a while, until I came over and showed him WMP11. He hasn't gone back. I despise Real player.

actually, i have not watched SNL in years and don't know if they still have those clips anymore- zzzpoohzzz, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2are you retarded? that was "real audio" as in "actual audio"... not RealPlayer Audio... wow

- Ellrick, on 03/14/2008, -6/+145This picture is no less than 7 years old, no kidding. I still have it backed up a on cd.
- redfox2600, on 03/14/2008, -1/+117Backed up on a CD? I have it backed up on my magnetic drum.
- zephc, on 03/14/2008, -1/+128An engraving of it was brought to the New World on the Mayflower
- Xondar, on 03/14/2008, -0/+93It was depicted in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics in Tutankhamen's tomb.
- JorgeGT, on 03/14/2008, -1/+89Obviously copied from prehistoric paintings in caves...
- intekra, on 03/14/2008, -22/+5I seriously just spit out my soda* when I read that.
*Manufactured by independent bottlers under the authority of PepsiCo Inc.- kcap122, on 03/15/2008, -1/+13i've never understood why people feel compelled to report the expulsion of their coffee/soda/apple juice whenever someone posts something mildly funny.
- therightclique, on 03/15/2008, -0/+6especially when it isn't remotely true. if you spit out your soda* because of something you read on the internet, you are legally retarded.
- highPhone, on 03/14/2008, -3/+37God was pasting it when he decided he had better things to do so he created the universe
- quomen, on 03/14/2008, -1/+42Xenu forged the picture from his own hands.

- wellyuk, on 03/14/2008, -1/+14That was the best comment on digg I've read in a long time. Apart from my comments, obviously.
- screensnot, on 03/14/2008, -2/+11This picture was reconstructed by analyzing cosmic radiation. The original was lost in the Big Bang.
- zephc, on 03/14/2008, -1/+128An engraving of it was brought to the New World on the Mayflower
- Schmich, on 03/15/2008, -2/+8And after 7years it's still not finished buffering! I even think the buffer has gone backwards o_O
- bryceman111, on 03/15/2008, -0/+5WTF is a CD?
- blackjack75, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3It's like a 72rpm vinyl I guess.

- elislider, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2last modified date i have is 2004, but i have an older computer that i originally downloaded it on. agreed this is a very old picture. one of the few first funny pictures i saved to my computer
- bbandito, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1Dugg for Anniversary value, the 7 year itch from too much buffering
- blackjack75, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3What's funny is that RealPlayer got this 'buffering' reputation because it was basically the only player at a time when connections where much much slower. Anything would be buffering 7 years ago. How fast was your connection in 2001?
Today Realplayer sucks because of the ads, the intentional impossibility to find the free version and the bad UI. But buffering? Not more than quicktime, flash, windows media player, or VLC.
- redfox2600, on 03/14/2008, -1/+117Backed up on a CD? I have it backed up on my magnetic drum.

- cr4wl3r, on 03/15/2008, -1/+1QuickTime FTW!
- studdenfadden, on 03/14/2008, -1/+12The only good thing about the new version of Real player is that it makes it easy to save video from sites that don't want you to. Even if the file plays in an embedded flash player in the web browser, a tiny "download video" button appears at the top.
Would never use it for anything else tho.- epadafunk, on 03/14/2008, -0/+6http://www.downloadhelper.net/
if you want to stop using real player you could use that.- studdenfadden, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3I have never used Realplayer to watch a video, it can save ANY video watched in any embedded or streaming video player you use.
- Frustian, on 03/15/2008, -1/+3Firefox by itself can save any embedded video, and there are many plugins to save streaming video.
- studdenfadden, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3I have never used Realplayer to watch a video, it can save ANY video watched in any embedded or streaming video player you use.

- seiha, on 03/14/2008, -21/+1Realplayer has come a long way since then, it's pretty respectable now. Stable and clean interface, with no nags if you know how to disable them in preferences, but I still install RealPlayer Alternative
- Xondar, on 03/14/2008, -0/+11How much they paying you?
- slippiefist, on 03/14/2008, -1/+10"no nags" except you have to make a group policy forbidding realsched.exe from running, or else it will keep putting itself back in startup EVERYTIME YOU OPEN REAL PLAYER.
- seiha, on 03/15/2008, -1/+1i use mediaplayer classic assholes, i'm just saying realplayer has really cleaned up their act since the late 90's, its not that much of a piece of ***** anymore. flash is the king of streamable content, so of course realplayer sucks now.
- slippiefist, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1Hey, relax guy.

- ShoggothDreams, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3*Sniff* I feel so vindicated. Every time I see a site or file directory that still uses this format I get so confused. How can such garbage *still* be around??? They never *get* it and improve, or take a hint and fade away. If it were a store in your local community, you'd assume it must be a drug-front.
- therightclique, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3this company IS in my local community. i get high with them all the time.... Fronties. Not a front since 1973.
