No, and no one else would either. If Jesus had only died, everything he had said would have been proven false immediately. It's his resurrection that people follow him for. Basically, if you're invincible, you can't be killed but you can die of old age; if you're immortal, you can't die of old age but you can be killed by, say, a guy beheading you.
