- Foo667, on 10/12/2007, -9/+42Parkinsons doesn't make you do stuff like this. You're perhaps thinking of alzheimers.
- creamy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17'Fox has also written an autobiographical book, called Lucky Man, about his experience of young-onset Parkinson's disease, with which he was diagnosed in 1991 (although he did not go public with the information until 1998).' (source: Wikipedia)
Though, I don't think Parkinson's disease made MJF shout 'Doooc!' It's just an mistake. He shouted 'Doc' a LOT in the trilogy. - aresef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15He was actually diagnosed while making Doc Hollywood. He never made it public until many years later.
- racketboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I love BTTF and I could understand why he would have "Doc" permently engraved on his mind.
It probably became second nature to him :) - coderifous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I don't personally know the actor, but I'm pretty sure nothing about this article qualifies that statement. Many public figures keep the details of their personal health private, precisely because of the undue ramifications it may have on their career, or even because it's "nunnyas".
How does that make him "narcistic"? (for those looking for the definition of "narcistic", you'll probably fare better by searching on "narcissistic", and if you do, you'll find that it hardly comes close to applying to even the most casual inspection of Michael J. Fox)
What's really sad is the ego of a person that thrives on the disparagement of others. - firemcd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"sad, the narcistic ego of the hollywood actor"
If SOMEONE had a CLUE about MJF and had an inkling what type of giving, decent dude he is, he would not be throwing words around he does not understand. - Stizzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Dugg because I'm a huge fan of the trilogy and the man. Nothing but respect for MJF!
- crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Dugg. Fox has always been a great comedic actor. I liked the BttF trilogy and the frighteners, which was directed by LotR famed Peter Jackson (who made a cameo in it). Guess Fox was hoping for a sequel to the BttF movies...
- Foo667, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That is somewhat true. My dad's got parkinsons and he sometimes struggles to find the word he's looking for. But he never picks out the wrong word, rather stammers until he finds the right one.
I guess I'm coming at it from a single experience, but from what I've seen MJF's bloopers here aren't related. - AcidBath, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Parkinsons causes shakes, imbalance, etc. It has nothing to do with memory:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&defl=en&q=define:Parkinson%27s+Disease&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title - kublerross, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5from emedicine.com - "Other initial symptoms include regional pain, variously described as coldness, tingling, cramping, or aching; depression or anhedonia; slowness in thinking and speaking; a general feeling of weakness, malaise, or lassitude; and a number of dysautonomic symptoms, including constipation."
While it may not directly effect memory like Alzheimer's, it definitely does have an effect on cognition. - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+5Aw, I miss MJF. The guy had so much charm to him. BTTF is easily my favourite trilogy! (Lethal Weapon had 4 movies :)
- duniyadnd, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10@foo667: Parkinsons does lead to communication problems as well. Think about it, your body is starting to twitch all day, and its starting to bother you, you can't do anything about it, you can't control it, and it gets frustrating and you say the wrong words... Just because it is primarily physical symptoms doesn't mean it can't lead to mental lapses.
More info: http://www.umm.edu/parkinsons/effects.html - geekdreams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Also, both films had a lot of blue screen/special effects work, so the environment probably reminded him of the earlier films.
- geekdreams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3WTF is your problem? Sand in the vagina?
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I dunno why you guys modded me down... my grandfather has parkinsons - and in the early stages before he got diagnosed, he'd often use the wrong word - or call his wife by the wrong name.
My comment wasn't a digg at MJF, not by any means - I know what he's going through. - RubeGoldberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great stuff! MJF truly is a fantastic actor, and the fact he dealt with all the Parkinsons stuff on set whilst not making a big deal out of it get him a lot of respect in my books.
- dayquil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ANY malady, especially those of the neurological persuasion, can have significant effects on memory and cognition. It isn't considered a product of the disease itself necessarily, but pretty bad stuff happens to the brain under significant stress, which is certainly brought on by symptoms and diagnosis of any significant disorder.
Cognitive issues are very common with patients of pretty much anything bad. - Skylander74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think it has anything to do with his illness. Alot of actors make this goof, calling a character by the wrong name. Funny goof tho. lol
- StephenChow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2lol, Doc Hollywood, is that why they called it that?
- m0nk, on 10/12/2007, -11/+7Just because he hadn't been diagnosed doesn't mean the disease wasn't there. And it wasn't movies plural, this clip is just from The Frighteners.
- 4889, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0This Just In!: YTMND servers shuddered to a halt yesterday as all "SHOE ON HEAD" sites were reportedly replaced with videos of Michael J. Fox shouting "DOC" over and over again followed by people laughing at him, sources say.
- creamy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Btw, 'Micheal' ? :| Woops! Must be Parkinson's...
- fixyourthinking, on 10/12/2007, -16/+6He hadn't been diagnosed yet with Parkinsons and had no symptoms at the time of these movies
- elroy, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1OMG THIS IS SO GOOD, 1,000 DIGGS IF I COULD GIVE IT!!!! THANK YOU SUBMITTER!!!!!!!!!
*****. - r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -42/+13I dunno, not too funny considering we found out that this was the beginning symptoms of his parkinson's disease.
Cute video though - creamy, on 10/12/2007, -35/+2Was it?
- bashnu, on 10/12/2007, -35/+1sad, the narcistic ego of the hollywood actor
