- theexitwound, on 10/11/2007, -8/+73As much as I hate Michael Moore, SiCKO is a good film. And to be bumped by Paris on Larry King isn't surprising, though it is disappointing to see the media caring about one spoiled brat over the nation's needs.
- vango, on 10/11/2007, -5/+58@ all the Michael Moore haters
its fascinating how many right wingers expose themselves as being idiots for hating Moore.
* Roger & Me - he rallied against US automakers outsourcing US auto production jobs overseas
* Bowling for Collumbine - rallied against gun control laws so that not another Collumbine would happen - hello Virginia
* F 9/11 - explained how BushCo lied about 9/11 to get us to enter into a war in Iraq
* Sicko - shows how the US gives better health care to actual terrorists in Gitmo than to actual 9/11 rescue workers
so yeah his agenda is 1) jobs for Americans 2) safety from guns in schools 3) truth from our elected officials 4) not accepting crappy health care for Americans who actually have health insurance
moore is a hero, but because he doesnt run around giving tax breaks to the rich and sending our kids to war hes demonized. heck of a job, righties. - slickriven, on 10/11/2007, -2/+34What the FVCK is this nation's OBSESSION with that whore?!?! Sorry for the profanity, but come on people. She's not all that attractive (and yes I've seen at least one of her numerous sex tapes), she's got a brain the size of a pea, yet the stupid media can't get enough of her. Only thing I can figure is she's great White Trash news, but seriously aren't we all simply sick of hearing about her?
- Rikkochet, on 10/11/2007, -5/+34The phrase we are seeking is "lose-lose situation"
- reconbot, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23I think we should look at our health care system before we look at Paris Hilton. In fact I just told Larry King that.
Tell him yourself.
http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form5.html?12 - compgeek, on 10/11/2007, -8/+26Good Lord what is this world coming to? They care more about one spoiled brat who got caught driving drunk than about someone who is trying to get the word out and make the world better through his films. I find it absolutely appalling that they would bump Mr. Moore for Ms. Hilton as she has no claim to fame other than being an heiress to a fortune. Moore on the other hand has made blockbuster movies and movies that were designed to teach a message or show the background to a story. I hope someone caught hell for bumping him and good on the daily show for having him on
- Waterispoison, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Why did you put a V instead of a U? That makes no sense.
- lichme5000, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Larry King is the biggest ***** on the planet. God, just retire already.
- Hikimbi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Oh noes! Communism!
- SuperCUBE, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Wow, talk about a change of priority.
- Battlecry, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I don't know what is considered a long wait in Canada, but when I had a kidney stone I had to wait in the waiting room for hours.
One time I sliced my foot open and went to the emergency room and bled all over their floor. The nurse wrapped about 4 pounds of gauze around my foot so I wouldn't bleed to death while I waited to be seen. And that gauze? They charged my insurance company $75.
Even your non-utopian health care system is a huge step forward for the majority of people in the United States. - HerbSolo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6well audpicc - THAT'S HIS ***** POINT!! - he's saying health care shouldn't be private business.
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11How can he lie about the people who tell their own stories? Unless you are suggesting these people are actors or liars. The only lie I saw in the film was the bit about Cuba. This shouldn't even have made it into the film. The points he illustarted there were already made elsewhere in the film. He knowingly misleads the audience as to the quality of health care in Cuba. Cuba's hospitals have a shortage of the very basic medical supplies. Moore never mentioned that. To watch the film youd think a Cuban hospital was on par with a US or any other western hospital. I also happen to be a Cuban-American and have gone to Cuba many times to visit relatives there. The Cuban medical system does not compare to the US medical system even with it's flaws. There is a reason why Fidel needed to import a doctor to treat him. I felt he exploited the 911 volunteers situation to make his own misguided Pro Cuba political statement.
- soulknowledge, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8What are we in the 1950's? Everyone's scared of communism. Socialized medicine does not equal communism... Hate Moore all you want but at least this topic is relevant... who amongst us doesn't think that good health care should be provided to everyone?
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10Usually I'd agree but Sicko is the first mostly honest film of his I have seen. The fact that you let your hatred of the man overshadow your concern for our country's medial system is pretty enlightening.
- Helois, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Here in england everything is free no questions asked. It works out just fine.
- Otto, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowling_for_Columbine#Specific_criticisms
- adgallant, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Moore wants to provoke change and have honest polical/social debate, Paris Hilton is a distraction. CNN is making a big statement by doing this.
- Fractl, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11Fat loud mouthed opinionated idiot < Skinny loud mouthed opinionated idiot
I think I got it!
At least Moore was sober when he drove to Cuba... - gdgi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@ tsaylor - do you not live in the US? the medical 'system' is beyond completely broken
- TenebrousX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The comment about the Fire department really struck me
- nukem996, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4In reply to Bowling for Columbine you obviously havn't seen it Moore himself is a member of the NRA he isn't asking for guns to be illegal just for controls to be on them so kids and people with mental health problems have a harder time to access them. That would have prevented Columbine and VT.
In Reply to Sicko, I guess your not an American because ours really sucks. I have insurance through my school and I am home for the summer. I needed to goto the doctor for a checkup(university requires it) My insurance denied me because I am over 100 miles from my university. I know plenty of people who have suffered because of the ***** health care system in the US. While the UK is not a system we should model its much better then what we have here. We should model our system like France or Canada who get it right and have good health care because of it. Unfortunately it will never happen the companies have the power in this country and all they want is to make money, which is part of the reason why there needs to be a revolution in this country. - bigtimer2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4would you want some company making a profit off of your mothers death becuase she was denied medical treatment!? How would you feel about it then?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Agree, it is sad, but then again, like any other business, they'll fill whatever there's more demand for.
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Anyone else see this as the Media taking advantage of paris' situation, in order to cover up Michael Moore movie?
- Battlecry, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Just out of curiousity, has any disease been cured since Polio? The Polio vaccine wasn't made by some huge pharmaceutical company. As a matter of fact, what profit-motivated cures have come around at all? All that viagra spam you get in your email is because of profit. The reason why we in America pay hundreds of dollars for medication as opposed to pennies for the rest of the world is because of profit. It's disgusting.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The idea of the documentaries is more to raise awareness and promote discussion on the topic than it is to solve all the problems during filming.
He does stunts like that to make it more entertaining to watch, bassically - SuperCUBE, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4That comment was intellectual.
- itsmattadams, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5At least I now know I'm not the only one that hates Paris Hilton and all that media coverage.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Police in the UK still have an armed response unit that is sent when guns are going to be there, they are also usually armed at airports and places like that. Shootings do still occur, but go dig up the numbers and compare it to the American rate of gun crime/shootings, you'll be amazed.
- Darkstarfinn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah Canada!!!!!!
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The wall to wall Paris hilton coverage was amazing and sad. With all the ***** hitting the fan type stuff going on all over the world they felt the american public viewed this trash and more important. If this is in fact the truth then god help us!
- cailie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Your comment is meaningless.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"per the waiting list problems that show up in any country with socialized medicine"
Yeah, all those people queuing up for care who previously couldn't get any sure do cause lines. I'll still happily stand behind them in the queue rather than have them go home and die. - dathrilla, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6Can someone tell me why people here hate Michael Moore so much? thanks.
- Otto, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4It's never worthwhile to hear Moore say anything. The man is willing to blatantly lie in order to justify his political positions, and I have no respect for that. When he's able to back up his opinion without distorting the truth or flat out lying, as he does repeatedly in all his films, then I'll consider listening to him.
Yes, I've seen Sicko. It's obvious crap. Anybody who falls for the nonsense shown in that film needs to have their head examined, as they're being overly gullible. - Battlecry, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4What I dislike most about Moore is how he goes about making his 'documentaries'. For instance, in Bowling for Columbine, he goes to the Wal-Mart and reams the poor cashier there about selling ammunition. Or, he stands out front of some big corporation with a bullhorn and berates them. How does that solve anything? It's just sensationalism.
On the other hand, I think Sicko was awesome and am going to get as many people as I can to go see it. - Hikimbi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's really just all about ratings, I really doubt anyone at CNN really gives a crap about spreading the word of the wonders of socialized health care.
Also, someone like Paris Hilton really draws in the teenage whores and self-proclaimed diva demographics. - hagbard72, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6The Canadian system is no utopia, long waiting lists, long waits in emergency rooms, and the system is hardly "free", we pay premiums in most provinces and the rest we pay in our higher taxes. Seems to me the best solution would be a medical professional run insurance system, like many places in Canada once had before the gov't stepped in.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2What the hell guys? He said take note from Canada. There are dozens of other nations with free national health care too. Choose any one of their systems as a solution.
- shortarabguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Notice how he made an entire movie about possible solutions
- sidd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1goddamn, /every/ comment i make gets posted twice. Why isn't this happening to everyone else?
- sidd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Actually, when you make a documentary, you ain't letting people "tell their own story", you are necessarily telling it for them. It was a long time ago now, but I seem to remember people debating the accuracy of the "free gun with bank account" part, and the part involving a charlton heston speech, as well as criticism of the way the columbine student were exploited into being part of Moore's tirade, despite having conflicting opinions regarding the films message.
I personally don't have anything against Moore, in fact I agree with him on many policy issues. I just don't think he is a very good journalist or film maker. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3While I do agree to a certain extent - but this information wasn't hidden. The Larry King people announced this when they did it. Tired of people thinking everything is a "conspiracy" to hide "the truth".

They were used by the Bush administration who called them heroes, lied to them about the toxicity of the air at Ground Zero, then refused to accept responsibility for their health care. You should be ashamed that they had to go to Cuba to get treated, believe me, they would rather get that treatment in th U.S.
- sidd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I don't think it is fair to say Larry King was neglecting health care issues because he had Paris Hilton on instead of Michael Moore. Both of them are public figures, Moore is promoting his film, Hilton is promoting her... well I never worked that out... but you get my point. I don't see how having one over the other on television show is morally wrong. All King has to do is put on whoever more people will want to see.
- emer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It doesn't matter what kind of system you have, there are going to be wait times. The difference with universal health care is that
a)you don't have to make ridiculous decisions like (should i keep my house or my finger) and
b) everyone gets taken care of no matter what their financial situation is, which believe or not is better for the country as a whole. (i.e. cuts down on the domino effect) - bigtimer2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1wow
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Truer words could not have been said...
