- Black0ps, on 06/01/2008, -14/+164Um the rice guy has a gun as well, how do you think he got the rice in the first place.

- inactive, on 06/01/2008, -61/+137Would only be more true if the arms dealer was American. :(
- oldhick, on 06/01/2008, -11/+84Yeah, I always forget how we flooded the gun markets in third world countries with American made AK47's and ammo.
- ndnspongebob, on 06/01/2008, -13/+75mehh, i would have just ate the AK
- svensko, on 06/02/2008, -5/+53Any chance I can use that rice to power my SUV?
- dehemke, on 06/02/2008, -4/+47Just reject all the PC crap.
The pejorative nature of the term "Third World" came about due to stigmatization of what those described countries are - poor, corrupt, and underdeveloped. The term originally simply indicated the states neither aligned with the First World (Western/Liberal Democratic/Capitalist) nor Second World (Communist).
You could have called them the Rainbow League, but eventually Rainbow League would have had the same negative connotations, because what you really don't like isn't the name, but the characteristics of the countries grouped under that label. - oldcrows40, on 06/02/2008, -4/+46dude, the AK store owner is the smartest salesman ever
- manstein01, on 06/02/2008, -6/+47I cannot believe you are being dugg up. Please, please, please show me pictures of third world armed gangs using M-16's.
- sgtpppr, on 06/02/2008, -8/+41It's just 'in' to hate on America at the moment. If we go into a country, we're sticking our nose where it doesn't belong. If we don't go into a country, we're ignoring a humanitarian crisis. It just goes with the territory.
- crazyjake, on 06/01/2008, -1/+31hold on now.... can i get directions? $25 is an awesome deal!! need to stock up for when the zombies attack.
- lordenlil, on 06/01/2008, -8/+33That's absurd. If the Chinese stopped, someone else would fill their place. If there is a demand, someone will be capable of providing the supply. Also- even if small arms munition sales would cease, the violence would continue with sticks and stones. Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
- plr4ever, on 06/02/2008, -0/+24finish your bullets too kids. I don't want to see one brass casing on your plate!
- sockpuppets, on 06/02/2008, -2/+25That people in the middle east look a lot like cartoons.
- manitoba98xp, on 06/02/2008, -0/+22"who would want to be known primarily for some food in their diet[?]"
Vegetarians. - PeppermintPig, on 06/02/2008, -1/+23Well, the intended message seems to be that when guns are cheap and food is expensive, people will use force and violence to grab the latter.
It sort of dodges the question of incentive to provide food and the good sense to protect valuables, whatever they may be. Some people will resort to theft and violence no matter how 'nice' the economy is, so long as the majority of non-violent individuals are unable to protect themselves. - bitterbug, on 06/02/2008, -0/+19In their language "Eskimo" means "eater of raw meat". They acceptable term in their language is "Inuit", which means "The people".
Which makes sense, as who would want to be known primarily for some food in their diet.
Americans would then be called "BigMacites" or "Whopperians" - pidgas, on 06/02/2008, -2/+20i'm sure this is somehow America's fault rather than the Hobbesian state of nature prevailing when a society's institutions are too weak or too corrupt to protect the rights to private property and bodily integrity.
- googenheim, on 06/02/2008, -1/+17I couldn't agree more...best comment I've read on Digg today
- dasdef, on 06/02/2008, -0/+15yeah well it makes it a helluva lot easier
- inactive, on 06/02/2008, -0/+15It is not sarcasm and it doesn't fail. AK-47's are made in Russia and China and supplied along with more powerful weapons to terrorists and thugs all over the world.
- sockpuppets, on 06/02/2008, -1/+15Emo.
- stretch611, on 06/02/2008, -1/+15Bender: Say, buddy, why's this Grand Cigar so pricey? ($10,000)
Clerk: Well, as you can see, its wrapper is a piece of the original US Constitution. It was hand-rolled by Queen Elizabeth during her wild years and was buried with George Burns until graverobbing space mushrooms-- Uh, well you know the rest.
Bender: Give you 300 bucks for it.
Clerk: No can do.
Bender: Oh, alright, I'll just take these $300 burglars tools then.
Clerk: Very good, sir.
Bender: So, uh, what time do you close tonight? - ParanoydAndroid, on 06/02/2008, -1/+14a .22? Who the hell stops zombies with a .22? It's been scientifically proven that the only effective ways to stop zombies are with a shotgun blast to the head, or a chainsaw. Jeez do your research man ...
/s - kelmaster1, on 06/01/2008, -11/+24More like, world bank causes mass inflation in food prices in third world countries which causes this to happen.
- sgtpppr, on 06/02/2008, -0/+12The worst part is he most likely works for local militia who stole the rice from UN trucks and is now selling it to the population putting local farmers out of business which increases the size of UN shipments until the entire food supply is based off 'free' relief which unintentionally props up military governments financially. See also Somalia, Myanmar, North Korea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Haiti....
- MegaMonkie, on 06/02/2008, -0/+12Caution: Pretending to know about economics does not mean you know anything about economics.
- jecruzs, on 06/02/2008, -1/+12But the guns certainly help.
- manova, on 06/02/2008, -0/+11What the hell are you talking about? The link you provided gave 18 countries that produce AK-47s and the US was not on that list.
- oldhick, on 06/02/2008, -1/+12Just an FYI, that was sarcasm for those whose who may not be passionate about weapons. There are NO real AK47's made in America. Now there are lots of boutique weapons builders who have built some knock-offs but they cost far too much to end up in the hands of third world nations.
AK47's were made by the millions if not billions (if you include the variants). Millions were distributed by the communists regimes of Russia and China throughout Asia, the middle east, and Central America.
This isn't to say that the US has done its fair share of providing funds and arms. We have, but the cold war unfortunately led to the distribution of weapons by both sides and singling out the US is a bit contextually inaccurate. - madfrogurt, on 06/02/2008, -1/+12Remember how we stopped using "Elderly" and started using "Senior Citizen"? Did that revolutionize the way we treated our elders? All a name change does is make a small group of people happy before the connotations of a name catch up and yet another name change is made necessary.
- MarsSentinel, on 06/02/2008, -0/+11uFcking ESKIMO is a slam now?!?! Where the hell have I been?
- viveknarain, on 06/02/2008, -1/+11Clearly he didn't listen to Ice Cube's "It was a Good Day" because he had to pull out his AK
- inactive, on 06/02/2008, -1/+101 million people+ were hacked to death with machetes in the congo in the space of 3 years. I'd say that's efficient enough without guns. They did have guns but bullets were too precious to waste on harmless civilians, so hacking and chopping up was more money saving.
- tmyprod, on 06/01/2008, -2/+11Haven't your read the survival guide? Kalashnikov's are terrible for killing zombies, get a .22 rifle w/ a good scope.
- crazyjake, on 06/01/2008, -0/+9i have, but for the price tag of $25 it can't hurt to arm your own zombie defense force!
- baylat, on 06/01/2008, -6/+15Man, that's just plain sad.
- crazyjake, on 06/01/2008, -1/+10dugg for poor english!
- Stochio, on 06/02/2008, -0/+8I think the message is that the guy buying rice should have bought a gun for $30, then sold his rice for $130.
- magic6435, on 06/02/2008, -1/+9When the hell did Eskimo become a bad word? i must have missed the memo.
- bitterbug, on 06/02/2008, -1/+9Touche. :) I should have narrowed that down by referring to the use of it for cultural/nationality issues.
You wouldn't say, "He's Canadian, she's American, they're European, and he's a Vegetarian."
Now Vegans on the other hand... they're just alien as it gets :P - crazyjake, on 06/01/2008, -16/+24if the arms dealer was american, there would be a next panel with the thief shot to death and the arms dealer taking both the rice and the gun!
- oldhick, on 06/02/2008, -0/+8I certainly wouldn't argue that American money has funded militants, but so has Russian and Chinese. Lets point the finger at all the players while we play this little game.
- oldcrows40, on 06/02/2008, -3/+11/s
- kb29, on 06/02/2008, -1/+8Are you sure this is accurate? Gun prices would skyrocket due to demand!
- inactive, on 06/02/2008, -1/+8Clearly the message is that there are no categorization of products for sale in open air markets.
- seraph582, on 06/02/2008, -2/+9you're not doing your view much good presenting it like you had a stroke just before you typed it
- thecurebr, on 06/02/2008, -1/+7They forgot to put the drug dealing in that market chain, if I am not all mistaken, it's just before having the $ 25 bucks to buy the gun.
- Smooooth, on 06/01/2008, -1/+7Dude...you are awesome.
