- OpenFuture, on 10/11/2007, -0/+129They fed them Cheetos, omg that was hilarious.
- Wonkanobi, on 10/11/2007, -12/+103It's great how the parents all thought it was hilarious. That's what happens when you have actual experience with something that's relatively harmless. I hate how all these old conservative blowhards blindly criticize something they have no real knowledge about.

"I love how all these young liberal hippies think it's ok to ***** with somebody else's life without consequence."
I REALLY ***** doubt that a 14 yr old kid is a 'liberal', as you so put it.
***** with somebody else's life?!?! For gods sake man, its just a ***** pot brownie!
This all took place in Santa Cruz, you obviously have no clue about that area and for sure have never been there.
The mayor of Santa Cruz stood on the steps of city hall a few years ago handing out vials of hash oil.
Remember...Minds are like parachutes...they only work when open. - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -2/+58"we asked officers to show us the evidence, but it was all gone"..... LOL. Santa Cruz, anyone surprised. I can imagine that principle going and hitting the bong in his office after the interview.
- golga, on 10/11/2007, -0/+48 In my experience Pot = eating Doritos, Oreos and Soda pop
- xabstract, on 10/11/2007, -1/+48Dugg for the smile of that cop saying "they tested positive"
- bslade, on 10/11/2007, -3/+39It becomes very clear that marijuana laws are a joke, when a bunch of middle schoolers are fed "drugs" and the cops laugh and feed them cheetos as a result.

You mean, kinda like our President? - themastersb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+25I think I'm dieing. Everything is moving really slow.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -11/+35The irony is, the junk food in most of those kid's lunch bags was waaaaay worse for the children than pot.
Pot = "bad"
Doritos, Oreos and Soda pop = "good" - ChrisWickenscom, on 10/11/2007, -15/+37That kid is my ***** hero.
- cr4ft, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19Was that officer being interviewed high as well?
- Crosshare, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20That was the coolest sheriff I've ever seen. "We've calmed them down, gave them cheetos" Glad to see someone still has a sense of humor these days, Boston I'm looking at you.
- lukas88, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19That looks like the most laid back town, I want to go there!
"We fed them cheetos!" - robmarcer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18I get so used to seeing conservatives on the US's news that I forget that some of you are normal.
The copper cracked me up. - thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21People seem to be forgetting what would have happened to the teacher and driver if they happened to come up for drug screening not long after this incident.
Firing for drug use != harmless
Despite your personal OPINIONS on the drug, it is ILLEGAL and can cause the adults involved some serious trouble. - NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17It's good to hear they have SOME humor about the situation...
But still... calling Being High, being "sick"... is moronic in itself... -_-
Zero tolerance policies do absolutely nothing to help people... - box254lid, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18Never trust any government that illegalizes plants.
- DiggzDE, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18Please. When you are fed a pot brownie. You will know that you have within the 45 minute time period of digestion. The high is just that obvious. If you think that giving it to other people could "harm them" or "ruin their lives" then you are just plain stupid.
Someone on here mentioned drug testing as part of teaching. That usually only occurs upon initial hiring and after that teachers are not subject to drug screening unless suspected of participating in the activity. Additionally, since the teacher would have known that they had ingested THC from the obvious side effects of eating a "pot" brownie, they would of course notify the proper administrative people.
While what the kid did was funny and stupid, it was in no way physically harmful. The kid was an idiot in thinking he might not get in trouble because of it but I honestly think expulsion is a little beyond the scope of an appropriate punishment.
For anyone who actually thinks this was harmful, I challenge you to give me an irrefutable reason as to why it was.
The report of students becoming "sick" is not correct. It is a terrible reference to the effects of eating THC. You cannot physically become sick off of it. Period. Again, I can say this from experience while many reporting or refuting my statement probably have no experience what-so-ever and simply are relying on incorrect and bias information. - Authustian, on 10/11/2007, -11/+24@cawpin
"Would you still be saying it was harmless if the kid would have given one to his bus driver?"
Yes I would, and you would too if you actually knew how it effected most people. Pot = harmless. - heero101086, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16Violated...I'd be like, thanks for the freebies...
- growlzor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15In other news, the kids popularity has soared 2000%
- DiggzDE, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14@thcobbs: Show me a known case of allergy to cannabis. Doesn't exit. where do you pick out your facts? Your ass?
Whole concept is: How would you know how "bad" the side effects are if you haven't experienced it before.
btw: I loved the part with the cop. He put it perfectly. Everyone checked out fine medically, besides their large ingestion of cheetos. hahaha. - georgefromneb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10What the kid did was trick people into taking a drug they did not want. Whether you believe it is harmful or not it is wrong. The people who think this is funny and nothing is wrong with it are probably the same people who are active about making smoking tobacco illegal in all public places. Yes smoking should be limited to places because the act of smoking forces other around to inhale the smoke. If forcing others to inhale tobacco smoke is wrong shouldn't tricking someone into taking a drug against their will also not be wrong? Another analogy-- I am sure there are some vegetarians in here-- what if someone were to disguise some meat food as say a veggie burger and feed it to you? Yeah you would probably know after the first bite-- but would it be a harmless prank? In the pranksters eye and many not vegetarians eyes yes-- in the victims eyes it would not be harmless at all.
This prank was not harmless because it forced (by trickery) people into consuming a drug they did not want. - viviwanu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11For those kids who felt "violated", the big pharma and the government have been screwing you and your mother since you popped out of her! A piece of pot brownie is probably the healthiest thing you can put in your mouth.
- falstaff, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11The worst kind of blogspam. Submitter linking to his own blog full of old, recycled content, embedded on a page with ads and affiliate links.
- dn11, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8and I'll add to that: despite our diversity we unfortunately have only 2 viable political parties - maybe one of our biggest downfalls
- falstaff, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8This is from early October, 2001.
Can't blame the kid for trying to bring a little mellowness to the world. - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The US is a very diverse country - we have more diverse viewpoints and lifestyles than any other 10 countries combined - I just wish more people who have never been here could understand that before trying to blanket us all under one stereotype.
- Iamnotwhoiam, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7I'll bet he makes the most popular list in his middle school rather quickly
- randomm, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I don't know what the big deal is and why the police needed to be involved. Weed is all but legal in Santa Cruz. Hell, I know a kid who got pulled over for a busted tail light and was obviously high with a bong and plenty of marijuana smoke IN the car and the cop just told him to find a place to chill for a while. People need to relax. Marijuana is not physically addictive so its not like these "unsuspecting" kids are in any danger of addiction. I do believe that the kid should be at least suspended. It is not O.K. to ***** with anyone's food. But other than that, they were all just fine - diagnosed, cleared and fed on the spot. LOL
- feebie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Although I think it's silly that people would get uptight about the pot, I don't think that's necessarily the issue.
I don't think I would enjoy becoming high unknowingly, and I agree that giving out pot-laced brownies without mentioning they had pot in them was a violation to the people who ate them. It might be harmless, but some people just don't like getting high, especially when they don't expect it to happen. You're forcing them into an uncomfortable situation that could have other consequences. What if the teacher was also an athlete, competing or trying out for the Olympics? They do drug testing, and she would fail, and she wouldn't be able to do anything about that. Many other walks in life also require similar tests. - scottykempf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4No one should ever be forced or tricked into doing something that they do not want to do or believe in. This is all about personal freedoms. Regardless whether marijuana is legal or illegal, no one else should make the decision for me whether I ingest it into my body or not. That is my decision and my decision alone.
- saintdesy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6@thcobbs
Any adult might get in trouble for smoking pot in most places, but not in Santa Cruz. I have smoked weed in view of cops there before at least three times and I have a friend who was obviously in possession when he was pulled over by a cop and the cop wrote him a ticket for speeding and ignored the weed.
Hell, they even passed an law last year that pretty much makes it so the city police don't enforce pot laws on people over 18. - DiggzDE, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I agree with you on this aspect of it. Unknowingly forcing someone to ingest a substance like THC is wrong. That is one reason why I said that what the kid did was stupid. But I would put the stupidity and inappropriateness more toward that of an immature teenager who doesn't think through all consequences of his actions then that of a person bent on purposely hurting and causing discomfort toward his classmates and teacher.
Expulsion is for someone who is seriously contemplating causing harm or problems toward others or the school with malicious intent.
Suspension is for someone who in a lack of judgment (like many teenagers) does something stupid that they thought would be cool or fun and gets in trouble for it.
In this case, the kid obviously knew it would be obvious who gave the brownies and resulted in them being high. He just didn't think through what might happen as a result of his actions that he thought would be fun and games. He should be considered for a temporary suspension, not a full expulsion. Especially since no one was physically hurt from his actions as well. - prinzrob, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4@ masterchi
If someone BAKED a brownie with blood infected with "AID's" and you ate it, the most dangerous thing you have to worry about would be all the sugar. If you are so worried about what is being put in your food then I recommend staying away from milk and beef instead. - STARTSOMETHING, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3by the looks of the interview everyone in cal smokes pot
- DiggzDE, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Mixing chemicals with cannabis does happen but is rare. It is not the same as cocaine or some powdered substance. It is hard to get away with tainting cannabis with a chemical substance. As it is, any chemical additions would most likely burn off in the process of transfering the THC from the cannabis substance into the butter or whatever was used as the needed fatty substance to bind with the extracted THC.
Unlike how it is often referred to, Pot Brownies, if made correctly will physically contain no weed. Simply, it is extracted THC that is contained in the brownie and is what gets the user high.
Oh and again at thccobs: You have a very skewed perspective on legality. As a person going into Law, I have to tell you that just because something is illegal, it doesn't mean that it IS wrong. Think about it and stop using prior-hypothesis bias. - ackza, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2CNN shouldn't portray the city of Santa Cruz where I live to be some sort of druggy town. I guess it knows everyone here is too smart to use CNN as their primary source for news.
"...in a community where drug use for grownups is permitted" (paraphrase) Yeah it is permitted here, in fact Marijuana is lower legally on the police priority list than J walking like it SHOULD be, and I remember voting for this and I smiled so much when I saw it on the ballot. - elitexero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"They have tested positive!" *grin*
Yeah... no wonder there's no evidence :p - godisdead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2BEST. FEILD. TRIP. EVA!
- Tool0317, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Messing with peoples food without them knowing is not cool. The kid should be punished for that. Other then that it was a harmless prank and should be treated accordingly.
Go Santa Cruz for easy herb laws! :D - tektalk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2moral of the story: give pot to the willing participants.
- Wonkanobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I feel I should clarify my original statement. I am in no way condoning what the kid did. Yes it was stupid, irresponsible, and possibly illegal. All I'm saying is that I appreciate the non-overreaction by the parents who are obviously familiar with marijuana and its effects. It's much better to have a rational, educated discourse about something that's so widespread than to ignorantly villify something that is considered "bad" by the status quo of our Judeo-Christian society.
P.S. @ capwin
"I love how all these young liberal hippies think it's ok to ***** with somebody else's life without consequence...Don't generalize and you won't look like a fool"
Isn't "all these young liberal hippies" a glaring generalization? - saintdesy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Aww man, I miss living in Santa Cruz. Pot flowed like water there. REALLY laid back town.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2iz true!
- theNazz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Pot is a gateway drug... for Cheetos!
For Christ's sake, think about the Cheetos... I mean, children! - mailboxhead85, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This actually happened at my high school. This one class had a day where students got to bring in baked goods and someone brought special brownies. A lot of students ate them with no idea. The student wouldn't keep his mouth shut so he was expelled. Some students jsut complained that they got stomach aches.
- pillfred, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Maybe you've read this but that kids not the only one with brownies. "I think were dying"
