" The gas is gone...Somebody go check" - SLP1111, on 10/12/2007, -3/+158Damn it I was expecting to see one of those massive propane tanks from a grill get tossed into a fire. What a let down..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+122It looked liike they had some plastic patio furniture to shield them from shrapnel, so they're probably all right...
- dbalaski, on 10/12/2007, -10/+111damm lucky they didn't get hurt....
Can you say shrapnel ??? - retral, on 10/12/2007, -5/+92That was about a minute longer than it needed to be.
- Yashar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+85Wow, just imagine if they threw a BBQ sized one into that fire.
- radicaldementia, on 10/12/2007, -6/+82good thing he didn't go over and check on it or he'd be in pieces
- dzelika, on 10/12/2007, -18/+93Makes you wonder if the humanity would be better off if they were removed from the genetic pool. This is outright DUMB!
- dono169, on 10/12/2007, -4/+66that is a small propane tank. kids these days need to step up the evolutionary process
- PatrickFisher, on 10/12/2007, -16/+77Good thing? At least our gene pool would be better off if he HAD gone over to check it...
- clide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+59I was disappointed too, so here are some bigger propane tanks

- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+53I think what you're looking for is this:
(Some guys hang a full BBQ sized tank to a rope at an abandoned missile silo site, tie a flare to the handle, step back, and shoot it with a shot gun.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0u-dgueN8k - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -5/+53The fact that kids will try to blow ***** up is as certain as the fact that adults will tell them not to...
It's kid's job to do stupid *****, and it's adults job to tell them it's stupid... No legislation is going to (or should) change that... - CraigJ, on 10/12/2007, -16/+56evolution in action...

- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -7/+43"The neighbors are mad." So wait they ***** did this in a regular suburban backyard? Holy ***** that would scare me to death if i heard an explosion like that next door.
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29That's not a "propane tank," that's a fricken camping container. Whatever you call those things. When I think "propane tank," I... ah, whatever. It was a cool explosion.
- psylence, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22aposter: You're a riot at parties I bet.
- jazzman251, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21I'd say leave the big propane tank to the mythbusters...
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24You mean chemistry?
- DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Awwwww... little bit closer and he could have been a Darwin Award recipient.
- Genius16, on 10/12/2007, -14/+32a propane bottle of that size wont cause shrapnel without another charge to set it off. tossing the can in the fire is just gonna expose the weak point of the can and the end result, kinds covered in a bit of dirt/grass and fire wood and a small propane tank with a torn off side. (METAL EIN FURER!) this is not always the case, so do not try this at home:)
also propane burns fast, so the grass around it didnt have much time to catch on fire. thats why it didnt get set ablze. you learn this stuff in like arson college or drug school somewhere... dert. - PatrickFisher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Or, better yet, click the little blue button just to the right of asleep2's name...
- BadassCheese, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20No, no, no...
It's funny until someone gets hurt, then it's hilarious. - JimV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14My buddies and I used to do this at the beach. We'd build a large bonfire, let it get nice and hot, and then toss one of those camping propane canisters into it. First the top of the canister would melt or pop out and would shoot flames out the top, and after a minute of that, the thing would explode. Not much flame, but a pretty big boom. As for shrapnel, the canisters never fragmented, they just split open like a banana..
So in my opinion, no too dangerous, but a whole lot of fun. - phenix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17my favorite part was:
"is it liquid in there"?
"no, it's gas"
"then it must be all gone!"
Glad they passed physics. :-) - mitrovarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Someone needs to set up a national endowment to get tripods for the crazy people on YouTube who do this kind of stuff. Accidental self-immolation is too important to be subject to the whims of a cameraman!
- Caleb83, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I know! It says "FULL PROPANE TANK" but neglects to say in real small writing "that fits on a camping stove." Cool explosion, but not big enough.
- thiagoleon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Cool, but what are beavis and butthead doing in the 3rd video?
- raabco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Err...
The average kid and average adult are both of average intelligence. - orangemarmalade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10@berkana:

"yea it's definately not propane, it'd be a much bigger tank and those ***** would be good n dead."
Um, clearly you have no idea... There are alot of portable camping stoves and stuff that run off small cans of propane or butane (most countries use butane, but America seems obsessed with propane). The difference between a can and a tank is purely qualitative, so yes, it can be called a propane tank.
Sure it's not a huge 25 litre (roughly six galon) tank that looks like it's made from cast iron or the like, but it's a tank-like object containing liquid propane.
Also I doubt it was full, either that or propane has a much smaller effect than butane. A fun trick I used to do for stuff like new years was fill a row of balloons with butane, and then using a sparlker strapped to a broom stick, burst each of them, causing a reasonable sized fireball from each, but was essentially harmless (unless you are caught inside the fireball, and you'd have to be pretty stupid to stand close enough to a balloon filled with butane while someone is poking it with a lit sparkler.)
[edit: I just watched it again, it's rather impessive.] - Gravedigger2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@ Berkana
Hooollllyyyy ***** that video was much better. - EmailAddress, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Someone go check" ... "okay" ....... "oh *****!!! he's burning alive"
- aposter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yep. In my day we would have used a 40 pound cylinder from somebodies camper, not a pissy 8 or 12 ounce toy.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You're thinking way too rationally.
- MMilitia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Wow that guy in the third video has an irritating laugh.
- jamessavik, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11This is what makes America great: our teenagers can figure out a way to blow the living ***** out of most anything. We're just twisted that way.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Wow.. these kids are ***** retarded. Then again everyone I know is like this at my school. At least one of them wasn't a total moron: "trust me, if there's no explosion it hasn't gone off - it's ***** propane".
Anyways, I was hoping to see a full-sized propane tank tossed in a fire. - Gizza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7too bad the average just happens to be dumb.
- InfamousX241, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Guys, "the pop topped off!"
- MMilitia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I doubt you'd get any shrapnel as the tank will most likely fail at it's weakest point - the base. Basically the base will just pop out and all the propane will ignite at once creating the nice 'pooofy' explosion we see in the video.
- omgitscolin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It's all fun and games until some jackass starts quoting Hot Topic t-shirts.
- freezervv, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Good thing he didn't think to pour gasoline on his pants first! (for those watching the front page earlier)
- cam0man, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"It's all fun and games til someone loses an eye, then it's just a game....'Find The Eye' "
- halfamazing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6part of me really wishes one of them went to check on it. idiots...
- dlw0193, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yeah - and I was expecting a bonfire. That's a camp fire at best.
- skammer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I, for one, think these kids are awesome (and I am an adult professional in my 30s.)
This is the exact kind of ***** I did as a kid, and I turned out fine. Look -- they hid behind plastic chairs, which is pretty safety-conscious in *****-adolescent terms.
(and the "go check" line was obviously a joke. Blowing ***** up rocks. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.) -
