I first saw him on Fear Factor. I thought, eh, very forgettable guy.
Next, I learned that he did stand-up. Some of his stuff was alright. He wasn't a comedic genius, but he wasn't a thief, either. (And I personally know how difficult it is to be funny, in my horrible attempts at making a webcomic.)
Then, I learned that he was a color commentator for the UFC. He is surprisingly knowledgeable, and he doesn't suck up to the UFC. He isn't afraid to mention great fighters from other organizations. I started to really respect the guy.
One day, I saw a comedy clip where he rips a guy who literally believes in Noah's Ark. My respect increased all the more. Anyone willing to put fundies in their place deserves a gold star.
Once I saw Rogan totally flame a female heckler on digg, combined with his gratifying exposes of comedic frauds like Dane Cook and Mencia, though, I totally loved the guy. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+22Mencia is a fictional comedian. Joe Rogan actaully called Dennis Leary out long ago on him stealing from Bill Hicks; who is also a brilliant comedian who changed the way that, at least I, listen to comedy.
