- Snoosy, on 11/20/2008, -16/+536That sign is ***** with my depth perception.
- GoKings, on 11/21/2008, -19/+192Dude what the *****... Is that building apart of the other building? Is it just a really big sign? How can the separate buildings have the same rooftop? Is it photoshopped? This picture is ***** with my mind.
- Hayaru, on 11/21/2008, -5/+127Dugg for not having "FAIL" plastered on it.
- Lloydinator, on 11/21/2008, -12/+131My psychic powers are telling me that this will be a comment graveyard... and... wait...
My comment will be buried plenty of times... yes - mantis108, on 11/21/2008, -4/+115Sigh.. I cannot resist.
No, this is irony. Oxymoron are phrases that combine two words that are often considered contradictory, as in "Military Intelligence," "Jumbo Shrimp," or "Microsoft Works." - Altmnop, on 11/21/2008, -1/+88The sign is on an overhang. The building is behind it.
- djasshat, on 11/21/2008, -4/+76Why are you getting Dugg down? Go look at the picture again. You'd have to be on drugs NOT to get tripped out by that.
- bullsfan03, on 11/21/2008, -2/+67Dugg you up just to ***** with your mind.
- GoKings, on 11/21/2008, -0/+51Your psychic powers suck ; )
- radsprack, on 11/21/2008, -1/+50Ha Ha... Microsoft Works
- CrazyChair, on 11/21/2008, -1/+43The roof is just extending from the building to the left, like a covered area you'd find at a gas station. It just looks like it could also be the roof in the background. Trippy.
- Lst01, on 11/21/2008, -6/+43Dugg for not labeling the picture "ZOMG EPIC FAIL WTF??!!!"
- chucali, on 11/21/2008, -1/+33I herd you like roofs so we put a roof on yo roof so you can be inside while you outside.
- lolwutpear, on 11/21/2008, -7/+34...of which only one (jumbo shrimp) is really an oxymoron. The other two, while humorous, aren't oxymorons because the words aren't contradictory in definition; they're only contradictory in our minds and in culture.
EDIT: I'm still happy to see that someone uses irony correctly. - Nightrain117, on 11/21/2008, -15/+42I liked the part where the sign wasn't aligned even though it said alignment on it
- acetv, on 11/21/2008, -7/+32Are you guys seriously smoking something? It's not photoshopped. The sign is hanging on the building nearest the camera on its roof thing that hangs over the concrete. The building in the back, which is actually across the street or whatever, has nothing to do with this sign. You can even see the ends of the lights attached to this overhanging roof just below the sign.
- Llanowar, on 11/21/2008, -0/+23It has a M.C. Escher feel to it.
- Vikrane, on 11/21/2008, -4/+25From reading all the above comments I have realized that one of two things must be true: There is no hope for digg and this site will spiral down to an ebaumsworld level ( i mean ebaums not any chan site) or most everyone here is baked out of their minds.
- Homerr, on 11/21/2008, -0/+18Here ya go: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/117785/fail.jpg
- Pinkshisno, on 11/21/2008, -1/+18Beware the ides of March.
- djasshat, on 11/21/2008, -3/+17you're an oxymoron
- Brododium, on 11/21/2008, -0/+14High-School Education.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -3/+17Most mechanics are Chaotic-Neutral
- Sornos, on 11/21/2008, -2/+15That's not ironic.
- Azerael, on 11/21/2008, -1/+14That's an amusing coincidence, but not irony.
- ChstrCopperpot, on 11/21/2008, -1/+13This suit is black not
- fuzzy889, on 11/21/2008, -2/+13***** you, two of my friends died aligning tires.
- kinggimped, on 11/21/2008, -0/+11Sorry to be the grammar nerd, but an oxymoron is only when 2 words are placed together. Like "harmonious discord", "deafening silence", "black light", or whatever.
Any other time you get two things going together that are contradictory (e.g. Sarah Palin and a master's degree), that's a paradox.
This sign is neither. It just about qualifies as irony. - NomortaL1, on 11/21/2008, -1/+12It's like an oxymoron.
- chrisaug18, on 11/21/2008, -0/+10Yes! Finally it makes sense in my mind, the smog express building is across the parking lot and is not attached at all to the shop in the foreground.
- DemDude, on 11/21/2008, -1/+10I would expect that a company that advertises with the simple word "Alignment" would make sure their sign is aligned properly. The sign being crooked is something that contradicts said expectation in a humorous manner.
That is irony.
I hate that people alway say "yeah well that's not irony, duh", to ANYTHING that claims to be. It doesn't make you look smart, it doesn't make you cool, it just makes you look smug. And dumb, at the same time, if you're wrong. - acetv, on 11/21/2008, -1/+10No.
No it isn't.
It would be ironic if the sign posted about the missing child somehow caused the child to go missing. What you saw was a coincidence. - Suruxia, on 11/21/2008, -1/+10There is no oxymoron.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+9Alignment: 88.8% Guaranteed.
- Calibur, on 11/21/2008, -0/+8Up you go.
- FredFredrickson, on 11/21/2008, -1/+8Depth perception... on a flat computer monitor?
- bknoll22, on 11/21/2008, -1/+8@YouFail: Your name sir, is the definition of irony.
- gaqua, on 11/21/2008, -0/+7you don't align tires, you align wheels.
- HappyDonut, on 11/21/2008, -8/+15it's* like an* oxymoron
- Leviathan433, on 11/21/2008, -0/+7Sex Panther Cologne. 60% of the time, it works every time.
- RealmDown, on 11/21/2008, -0/+7oxymoran
- ASfinkterSezWut, on 11/21/2008, -3/+9Woman Driver
- AaronCo, on 11/21/2008, -1/+7I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that...
- d1a1s1, on 11/21/2008, -1/+7Ok...this joke was old months ago...we get it...now get some new material
- zeyad, on 11/21/2008, -2/+8who is an oxymoron.
- 3Y3CON, on 11/21/2008, -0/+6it appears you were spared
- Harabeck, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5Nope, Jumbo Shrimp is an oxymoron. Its true that in context the definition of "shrimp" is a type of seafood, but the other definition (something small) does exist, so is still considered an oxymoron. In fact, it is the most common example used by texts.
But keep in mind, as lolwutpear pointed out, connotations should not be used in defining an oxymoron. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -7/+12me fail english? that's umpossible.
- JohnnyMi25, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5I see someones read the comedy writing hand book by Helitzer
- s1ade, on 11/21/2008, -2/+7I can't believe it took this long for the Irony Police to show up.
