The National Lampoon, Mad Magazine (so ground-breaking in the Kurtzman days), SNL guys like Bill Murray and Chevy Chase, Matt Groening, etc. Maybe you could include some of Robert Crumb's stuff.
If you compare it to British parody and ironic humor, it's less absurd and crazy, less concerned with class, but more pessimistic and depressing. Though the British like to say the Americans don't do irony, really it is purer irony than say Monty Python.
