The resemblance to the man who left her years before grows with each passing day and he has now become a daily reminder of her abandonment by his father. A few hours before the photo, the mother lashes out at the tormented son once again in a drunken fit. However, caught up in the gluttonous joy of tormenting the boy, she lets slip the secret that has been straining to escape for 13 years. The secret that turned the boy's world upside down and now burned in his mind.
He realized that it all made sense now as he looked upon his mother and sister as they posed together for the camera. He could not hide the confused and contorted grimace on this face as he watched from the distance but it made no difference. He was invisible in a room full of family and close family friends who were little more than strangers to him and even if they did notice the odd little scowling boy in the corner, they would never have suspected that the cheap bouquet of long stem roses hid within them a sawed off shotgun with the letters "M.G." which the boy had carved into the stock with a dull pen knife just hours earlier.
