One bumper at a time. - Pentagonian, on 10/12/2007, -6/+66bumper cars.... just get out of the way we're trying to liberate you!
- Tenlow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+49They already have bumper activated IED's, they're called the ford pinto.
ZING! - JClassy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49Well.. While I understand why they have to do this, it really illustrates the problem of trying to get the support of the population.
I can't imagine I'd be too happy if I got my car knocked into intentionally (broken tail lights etc..). After a while I'd stop being understanding. - DurkaMcDurk, on 10/12/2007, -40/+81personally this looks like a couple of ***** douchebags that think the world has to move out of their way.
and briantech... 1 mile from work? ride a ***** bike. - Paul, on 10/12/2007, -15/+51no wonder they hate us
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39My first (even knee jerk) reaction is.. no wonder we are hated etc etc. Then I stopped and thought about it. Every car that slows in front of you or blocks your path could be setting you up to be blown to bits. This style of driving is (unfortunately) absolutely necessary. It's a survival tactic.
- palutke, on 10/12/2007, -7/+33Wow, that's exactly how I prefer to drive in Atlanta. It's a little harder in a Mustang, though.
- SIRBERUS, on 10/12/2007, -15/+38It makes me sick to my stomach when I see soldiers abusing their powers... however, in this case I do not see that.
Iraqi civilians, from what I have heard and been told by people over there, are told to clear the road when a military vehicle is coming behind them--especially when they are honking like this.
It's no different than when an ambulance or firetruck or any other police vehicle is coming down a street with its sirens on, you know you need to go to the side.
In this case, however, its whenever its a military vehicle due to risks of car bombings, ambushing, etc.
I'm not saying "bumping" is protocol (it maybe, or it may not be), but, I personally, in the same position, would bump the car if they knew they should move out of the way, and if there was a risk of being ambushed, shot, or car bombed. - jadacyrus, on 10/12/2007, -17/+39I'm mostly against this war however its pretty obvious that the reason why they are bumping people out of their way is because they have to keep moving. The threat is if they are stopped for too long it gives "terrorists" too much of an open window for an attack. If it were my ass on the line, you can bet I would be driving right through those bastards.. Lookin out for #1.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22You are missing the point. The passengers of that vehicle are scared. They are trying to insure their own safety. Every time they slow to a stop they risk annihilation. They have watched countless other Humvees slow down or wait for a pedestrian just before being struck by a Rocket Propelled Grenade. When the stakes are that high a bumper tap is the equivalent of a friendly horn honk. And I am a pull the troops, No War, pacifist.
- atlex2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18wouldn't this make people want to blow you up?
- xobecide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Am I the only one that sees the similarity between the reactions of the other drivers and the reactions programmed into other drivers in GTA?
I was hoping there'd be little green auras with rotating stacks of money when pedestrians ran into the street.
Edit: Texidomasx saw it, too. - arsenal72, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17At first look it seems terrible, but they have more than enough reasons not to want to get stuck in traffic.

Iraqi's don't seem to like occupation. - ninzoris, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19I am not American and I do not support the war. But I couldn't help feeling nervous just watching that.
Every ride for these guys is constant ultra high stress. There is a very real chance that any of the parked cars, or cars driving on the read could blow up at the exact time they are closest to it. They could get blocked by the traffic and get ambushed at any time.
Keeping that in mind, I think them bumping a few vehicles of drivers stupid enough not get out of the way of a honking military Humvee is alright with me. - FriedGeek, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17I understand why it's needed but that can't be good for the image. A few points
* He's honking the whole time to let people know he's coming
* He gives people time to see he's there and get out of the way
* Most of the time it's a pretty gentle bump
* I don't know that I would be that gentle if I knew that at any second someone could pull out in front of you and blow themselves up. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Between Iraq and a hard place!
- JClassy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12If you think about it in a "we are at war" context, the siren doesn't really make sense (good target). The pb is that the US is somewhere in no man's land between war and civil unrest.
- AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -16/+26Not that there were bullets flying in this video, but I imagine it would be good to get people in the habit out getting out of a speeding humvees way. A lot of cars in this video seemed to know they were going to get bumped if they didn't move quickly enough.
I'm not saying it's the best public relations idea out there, just a necessary one. - hellalazy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10i cant wait for the guys who made this video to post " driving in traffic with a tank"
- bobcrotch, on 10/12/2007, -29/+38When you have to worry about suicide bombers and IEDs on the way to work you can bitch and complain about them being 'unfair' in their driving tactics.
Go watch An Inconvenient Truth again. - andydumi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12You could hear the horn honking throughout and no one got out of the way. A siren would be just as useful.
- FriedGeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11A lot of people don't like to think about it but war is, well, war. It's not nice. It's not pretty. It's not fun. It's not a 9-5 job. If this was a video of a cop driving like this in, say London for you, that would be disgusting. These are soldiers who live every day knowing they could just as easily be killed in their sleep as someone tossing a suitcase full of C4 under their Humvee if they stop for a red light.
Whenever you see videos from Iraq keep that in mind. It's war. Personally I wish they didn't have to even think of driving like that but I'd rather they bump and scratch a few cars, stay alive, maybe even live to save the lives of some of the Iraqis who hate them. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9lol, I see most of you guys had the pleasure of spending some time in Iraq. These guys were actually nice.
- afortaleza, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Man, what a humiliation ! No matter the circumstances this is so humiliating for the population...I'm sorry for the people of Baghdad man, they suffer humiliation from attitudes like that (justified or not, it's a humiliation) and they are killed by the dozens everyday by the extremists.
One would wonder when will it end... - jlewicki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9maybe if you watched a few of these clips you'd understand why they are driving through traffic as fast as possible. slow targets are easy targets.
http://www.liveleak.com/browse?tag=ied - FriedGeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I don't know about you but if I see a cop in my rear view at all I will get over to let him pass if I could. Now if I see a Humvee come up behind me and honking, I'm getting out of the way too. It's that they just sat there that boggled my mind. Hell any Humvee on the street is a Kick Me sign with wheels in Iraq. If I was Iraqi I wouldn't want to be anywhere near one on the streets. Think about it. No really... stop and think.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Try watching your boys get blown up by an IED set up on the side of a road just waiting for the next HUMVEE to stop...Then tell us if you would be freaked out about stopping as well.
I wont stoop to your ridiculously low level and tell you what i think about the lobsterbacks. - unfinite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Those torque converters sure are whiny. That would be annoying to drive.
- bigteebo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8As a GTA player, the whole "pull over if you get tapped" method seems to be in full force here. The "move into the opposite lane when there's traffic ahead" is a tactic I use quite often in GTA on missions. Weird to see it all in real life.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9And you would die quickly.
- tuxidomasx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10lol. awesome.
reminds me of GTA
they even bumped a bus.
*wonders what would happen if a guy on a bike was in the way* - CamoChris, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I can see the point of them not wanting to stop because that leaves them open to attack. But if I were a citizen out driving my car and got rear ended by a hummer, I'd be a pretty pissed.
- FriedGeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"It's not a war with the Innocent citizens for god sakes."
Picking up the GTA analogy here because you know the Innocent citizens' cars from the insurgents right? Every Humvee has a little round map in the corner that has a red dot showing all the insurgents near by. Oh and insurgents only drive 1994, four door, dark blue, Toyotas. And insurgents never pick their noses either so you know that that guy at the end was an innocent citizen.
*sigh* - zweben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"A lot of people don't like to think about it but war is, well, war. It's not nice. It's not pretty. It's not fun. It's not a 9-5 job. I dunno about you, but if there were a cop behind me honking his horn like crazy, i'd pull the hell over, especially if I saw him approaching my bumper. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They are, try driving 500 miles in one.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8your ignorance is simply astounding
- BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@ninzoris
It is called an ambush. They just watch main roads or routes known that Americans take so they set up ahead of the path, spot them as they come up and try to make their move. So the troops try to keep moving so as to give as little time as possible for a car or whatever to get close. - angrycat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6*squish*
- advancedOption, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Jesus dude... who ripped out your soul? Empathy is a bitch but you should try it sometime.
U.S soldiers are put in a sh;t position, every car, every Iraqi is a potential threat... I can kinda understand them being a bit angry towards Iraqis. But you don't!
Iraqis are put in a sh;t position, most of them are just people like us, they have simple goals... people above complaining about getting to work... imagine what it's like for a regular Iraqi trying to get to work. They have insurgents and US troops to worry about. - zadadka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@gottatufa
Whilst a chunk of me agrees with your sentiment, the reality is that you simply can't sit behind stationary traffic like an invitation, just waiting for someone to ruin your day.
Yes, they acted as though this happened every day, because it does, and the citizens knew it...when they heard the Hummers' (woeful) horn, or more likely when they saw them in the rear-view, they shifted, sharpish...they knew the drill.
And they only needed a tap to be reminded, or if they weren't concentrating.
Same with going against the oncoming...everyone's seen it before...and if they haven't, those around them soon gave a clue. - rewen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3BlackKnight6, I think the comment you replied to was a reply to the comment above, not the whole threat situation. He's saying that the random cars being bumped aren't the ones that are going to blow up. Because the guy above him said that this was going to make more people want to blow them up.
Bleh forget it. We need to be able to reply to subcomments :p - matts0344, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"And we wonder"...
You can say that about anything.
***Hummer gets attacked in the streets of Iraq****
And you wonder why they drive like that. - Claw787, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10Just imagine what goes on *when the cameras are not present*
- dinkola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If your in a place where it dangerous to walk down the street (when it wasnt before you showed up), you'd think it may be a sign that you should sort out your mess and leave.
- MaxwellTD, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6move plz, k thnx
- cantimolto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5So this is where the people recruited from Massachusetts end up.
- supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Damn if I drove like that here in Toronto, someone would put a bomb under my car too. Maybe they got it backwards, maybe if they stop driving like that they wont get attacked!
Wow. - umdmatto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Winning the war on terror one fender bender at a time
