- pstroll, on 11/03/2009, -16/+321User: “How do I get Sleep 3 to run in Linux?”
Zealot: “Oh that’s easy! If you have Redhat, you have to download sleep_3_rh_8_i686_010203_glibc.bin, then do chmod +x on the file. Then you have to su to root, make sure you type export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 but ONLY if you have that latest libc6 installed. If you don’t, don’t set that environment variable or the installer will dump core. Before you run the installer, make sure you have the GL drivers for X installed. Get them at [some obscure web address], chmod +x the binary, then run it, but make sure you have at least 10MB free in /tmp or the installer will dump core. After the installer is done, edit /etc/X11/XF86Config and add a section called “GL” and put “driver nv” in it. Make sure you have the latest version of X and Linux kernel 2.6 or else X will segfault when you start. OK, run the Sleep 3 installer and make sure you set the proper group and setuid permissions on sleep3.bin. If you want sound, look here [link to another obscure web site], which is a short HOWTO on how to get sound in Sleep 3. That’s all there is to it!”
User: “How do I get Sleep 3 to run in Windows?”
Zealot: “Oh God, I had to install Sleep 3 in Windoze for some lamer friend of mine! God, what a ***** mess! I put in the CD and it took about 3 minutes to copy everything, and then I had to reboot the ***** computer! Jesus Christ! What a retarded operating system!” - ccpearce5, on 11/02/2009, -15/+225Running Windows... which is how the the phrase "It's late - I'm going to crash now" came from.

- dvsbastard, on 11/03/2009, -3/+181True computer geeks don't sleep at night... That's what daylight is for!
- OmNomNomBACON, on 11/03/2009, -2/+142Wouldn't you have to install the program before you could use it?

doctor: I'm sorry ma'am, he's in a coma. - TexMexRex, on 11/03/2009, -3/+97Nope, just regular retarded.
- XPpro, on 11/03/2009, -4/+80So you get nightmares when you open an infected Sleep.exe file?
- Xordiem, on 11/03/2009, -10/+86sudo apt-get install sleep3
- directedition, on 11/03/2009, -0/+57How is he running sleep while it's still downloading?
- PhillyOC, on 11/03/2009, -2/+59Bravo.
- Xordiem, on 11/03/2009, -2/+53because a 'computer geek' uses IE.. uhhuh
- trogdoor, on 11/03/2009, -1/+48A programmer started to cuss
Because getting to sleep was a fuss
As he lay there in bed
Looping 'round in his head
was: while(!asleep()) sheep++; - BoomShake007, on 11/03/2009, -2/+44Not really the best metaphor. I mean, what real computer geek would redownload sleep.exe every night? File indexing or defragmenting would have been better
- Scr4tchFury, on 11/03/2009, -3/+29I can't sleep! I have a dependency error!
- Terwa, on 11/03/2009, -2/+25Everybody knows you never go ***** retarded.
- vibr8, on 11/03/2009, -1/+23I think your spell-check crashed
- pstroll, on 11/03/2009, -1/+21Thank you. I did the s/Quake/Sleep/g; all by myself.
- FLarsen, on 11/03/2009, -0/+19Well, yours won't be.
- PhillyOC, on 11/03/2009, -0/+19Thank you for making me laugh after a really rough day.
- UniversalGuy, on 11/03/2009, -1/+17@Alpha, I use my PC daily, many hours a day, in fact I never even turn it off.

Abort? Fail? Continue? - hhmmmm, on 11/03/2009, -1/+15How do you manage to spell 'the' wrong twice in the same sentence in which you're trying to insult someone for their alleged illiteracy?

- k3rfuffl3, on 11/03/2009, -0/+11The OP thing is what needs to be done after using apt-get
- raydeen, on 11/03/2009, -0/+11Maybe you dream in rem sleep. I just sit in the corner and lose my religion.
- Scr4tchFury, on 11/03/2009, -3/+14Actually he is, but he hasn't opened the port on his pants, so it just ends up making a mess.
- RocketGib, on 11/03/2009, -1/+11A real geek doesn't download in their sleep, they compile source code.
- ZigZagZilla, on 11/03/2009, -0/+10for (sleep=0;sleep<28800000;sleep++) {
dream(sleep);
} - DocHoliday22, on 11/03/2009, -1/+11... full ***** retarded..
- alpha88, on 11/03/2009, -3/+13"HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of people use Windows every day with zero problems."
So you've talked to all of them then? And none have had any problems? Seems odd that Vista got such a bad rap if only ccpearce5 was having issues. - carbonfilament, on 11/03/2009, -0/+10bloatware....
- dvsbastard, on 11/03/2009, -1/+11Those dialog buttons make no sense... Scratch that, the whole damn thing doesn't make sense!
- GenericNumber1, on 11/03/2009, -1/+10This would be about 10 hours of sleep assuming the download speed is constant. I can't generalize about all computer geeks, but if this is going to try to speak for the archetype, the writer might want to knock that down to "1 hour left"...
I should probably just shut up and enjoy the cartoon. - DubSnipe, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9A problem has been detected and your sleep has been shut down to prevent damage to your brain.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure that any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced setup options, and then select Safe Mode.

- sourc3, on 11/03/2009, -2/+10If only... for me, sleep.exe never finishes downloading before it's interrupted by some lame ass alert from explorer.exe, telling me action is required on my part in order to prevent all system processes from failing catastrophically.
- DivisibleByZero, on 11/03/2009, -0/+8um,
1) if he's still downloading it, wouldn't he be awake?
2) wtf. is that the ie6 file download dialog? What self respecting geek uses any version of IE? especially 6? - clinko, on 11/03/2009, -0/+8~10hrs total.
You're Welcome. - inactive, on 11/03/2009, -1/+8So Sleep.exe finishes downloading and he wakes up? Shouldn't running Sleep.exe (instead of just downloading it) induce a sleep state?
- PrometheusBorn, on 11/03/2009, -0/+7I'll ignore the points everyone else has made that indicate you're a moron, so I can make this point:
How the hell did the original poster come off as "thinking he's better than everyone else" by posting a common complaint about windows? I'd like to honestly know this because there does seem to be this psychological reaction that people have that you also demonstrated. The whole "if you don't use what I use, then you must think you're better then me so YOU ARE AN ARROGANT PRICK"-mentality [ie, see any mac vs. pc thread. - masterstghm, on 11/03/2009, -0/+7I would compare sleeping with defragging a hard drive or a collection of maintenance tasks more than downloading a file.
- glberns, on 11/03/2009, -0/+610.526315789 to be a little more exact
- pklall, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6Inaccurate, we dream while in rem sleep. Not to mention that polymorphism of a sleep stage class would be superior to a chain of if statements (assuming we could use oop).
- raydeen, on 11/03/2009, -1/+7void sleep(){
____for (sheep=0:sheep < 100000:sheep++){
________if sheep<=100 then rem();
________else dream();
____}
}
edit: I just realized that if then statement is in BASIC. Old habits die hard. -
