- Hawky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I’m currently a Gunny in the Australian Army (RAA) we did some research into this footage because they always show it at the start of presentations. the guys in the footage are doing ceremonial drill with the gun, thats why he was standing directly behind the breach block when he loaded it. the two guys standing either side of him would not be standing there like statues if they weren't doing a drill movement. the way he loaded it was perfectly safe except they loaded a faulty round.
Pureeviljester: if the round goes off inside the barrel it’s called a bore prem, this happened a few years ago in Australia amazingly no one was killed but the gun was errr ***** up pretty bad, it to was caused by am ammunition fault but not a maker one - xyqxyq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Or the fourth law.....

... - Catharsys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15When you load the round the breach closes and fires if i remember correctly. He also loads with his fingers out which will be cut off. You stand to the side, fist the shell into the chamber so the recoil doesn't knock you back 10 feet.

- dasvoldus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7mortars typically fire shells automatically when dropped in not howitzers. Howitzers *are* breach loaded but are fire by activating a firing mechanism. In the clip it looked like the guy slammed round into the breach causing the cap to go off. If you watch closely you'll see that he inserts the round, it doesn't go in properly and he then tries again but does so by pulling it out a bit then slamming it in.....
