- johnnyzero, on 02/07/2009, -0/+40The problem isn't that they are afraid of smart people, it is that they think they are the smart ones.
- paulwind, on 02/08/2009, -0/+37Perfect timing. I woke up this morning and thought "I sure hope I read a slapped-together, poorly informed list written by someone who has only seen 12 movies in their life!"
- ARTLUKM, on 02/07/2009, -0/+33Aren't movies generally full of all types of archetypes? Of course there are bound to be geek ones.
- spookyttws, on 02/08/2009, -2/+28Really ***** slideshow. I'm kind of offended that 'The Jerk' is included, that's not a trait of tech/intelligent people in fact I find less logical more emotional people to be jerks (or more accurately jackasses). And if your going to reference the "Jerk" you've got to point to Steve Martin in "The Jerk" (http://cellfish.com/video/99777/HE-HATES-THESE-CAN ... most other clips have been taken down by NBC).
I think the best character referenced is "The Professor" from Gilligan's Island. He may not have referenced any real technology, but in a film world filled with thick glasses, acne, being antisocial and squeaky voices he was a good looking, logical man who showed that intelligence isn't something that makes you weird, but instead allows for the creation of coconut radios and bike powered washing machines (yet, oddly he still couldn't patch a boat). I actually really looked up to the character growing up in the 80's (watching reruns on daytime TV). - nomadofthehills, on 02/08/2009, -0/+23That was lame.
- acklefutz, on 02/08/2009, -1/+17Websites this crappy shouldn't make it to digg
- saranagati, on 02/08/2009, -1/+17if you're saying that was your first time watching office space, i'm going to have to kindly ask you to leave digg.
- CanceledCzech, on 02/08/2009, -0/+14Sometimes I think the world is afraid of smart people.
- Mesimeris, on 02/08/2009, -0/+13Reading that was actually physically painful.
- airmann90, on 02/07/2009, -1/+12They make a killing off people who relate their lives to the lives of characters in movies and TV shows. Anyone with enough sense knows life is nothing like the stupid crap you see in shows like "The Hills"... I mean, come on. It isn't... right?
- mycoplasma, on 02/08/2009, -0/+8Where's Boris from Goldeneye?
I AM INVINCIBLE! - cosmicr, on 02/08/2009, -0/+7what a terrible article!
- manova, on 02/08/2009, -0/+6That was the beginning of a good article that miserably failed.
- coyote1284, on 02/08/2009, -1/+6I, for one, welcome my new smart overlords... that is, if I were not already brilliant and will rule you all one day.

the world. - scuba7183, on 02/08/2009, -0/+5can we take over the world already?
- starcasm, on 02/08/2009, -0/+5Hollywood is trying to appeal to people who are afraid of smart people. And it works.
- themisanthrope, on 02/08/2009, -0/+4Proud to be a geek who doesn't read that piece of garbage called Baseline. Another useless pile of Ziff Davis dreck.
- Evolve, on 02/08/2009, -0/+3Dugg for MacGyver the ultimate life hacker of them all.
- falstaff, on 02/09/2009, -0/+2Perhaps I'm missing something by not reading the comics, but I never got the impression that Obadiah Stane was supposed to be a Geek/Nerd/Techie type. Less, even, than Tony Stark. Where's the 'superhero' stereotype?
- xerocint, on 02/08/2009, -0/+2... *facepalm*
- bearcat8543, on 02/08/2009, -1/+3its pepsuber
- Jashobeam5, on 05/06/2009, -0/+1I wish mine had been.
- cactus476, on 02/08/2009, -0/+1I've never really liked Baseline and this is just one more justification for not renewing their 'free' ad-ridden publication.
- Jashobeam5, on 05/06/2009, -0/+1So true.
- inactive, on 02/08/2009, -0/+1No Superbad?!?! Mclovin come on, Hollywood loves the slightly deformed teenage geek being chastised in movies.
- DigaPony4, on 02/09/2009, -0/+0Heroes...
- GoldenGateJen, on 02/09/2009, -0/+0When will they figure out, as Jeff from TRS said "Nerd is the new cool!"
- ratface, on 02/08/2009, -1/+1my 4th grade science fair project was way better than that website.

- mishabear, on 02/08/2009, -1/+1What about the Gil Grissoms, Timothy McGees, Spencer Reids, Penelope Garcias, and Abby Sciutos of the world? Damn, those are MY geeks!
- AmyVernon, on 02/08/2009, -5/+4Never really thought of MacGyver as a geek. MacGruber, yes. MacGyver ... not so much.
- 911InsideJoke, on 02/08/2009, -3/+0Alex Jones is funny and right about our liberty!!!
