On one of the first projects we got he decided that he didn't like using loops so he just copy/pasted a block of code about 40 times, the block of code ended up being broken.

I don't know how much I've looked over someone else's code to find that 80% of the comments are "this probably isn't the right way" or "todo: make it better". The second example is at least sort of useful, but how much longer would it take to write "This routine doesn't handle unicode well, rewrite to accomodate double-byte strings" or something that actually HELPS instead of just "oh ***** this is the best i could do"
