- BestJaxx, on 03/21/2008, -2/+26First gifs, now this. Digg is devolving, and I'm loving it.
- nottanner, on 03/21/2008, -5/+29Sweet, can't wait to transfer those files to my new 16 MB iPhone!
- anthonymaitz, on 03/21/2008, -1/+19Thank God! I've thousands of unlabeled floppies full of MIDI.
- PrettyMuchBryce, on 03/21/2008, -1/+17think about your dad
- Lanlost, on 03/21/2008, -2/+17Wow, this is.. really well done. Every detail of usage of computer programs from back in the day is, while obviously exaggerated a bit, pretty damn accurate.
And also, MIDI is great. It's flaw is the fact that it's simply a format to store music.. but not the instrument waveforms so you have some computers which have great soundcards and thus sound great.. and lots that have onboard sound or ***** sound cards that sound pretty bad. Pretty bad? Yeah. If you didn't live through the FM Synthesis days you don't know 'bad.'
Songs that were specifically made to use FM Synthesis can sound amazing in their own right. There are a few Genesis soundtracks that come to mind. If you are going for what people would consider the broad definition of 'MIDI', really just synthesized sound instead of MIDI format in particular, on consoles the NES is more pleasing than the Genesis sound and the Super Nintendos soundtracks tend to sound great, even the bad ones, compared to the Genesis. Sorry for the misuse of commas. - inactive, on 03/21/2008, -2/+16MIDI's and elevator music make me happy
- yeskia, on 03/21/2008, -4/+17Buried this video because *shock horror* there are countries outside of the US!

- inactive, on 03/21/2008, -5/+13Guess you haven't been in a recording studio in 8 years. Sucks for you.
- dolvlo, on 03/21/2008, -1/+9Seriously, Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job is one of the best shows to come out of cartoon network. Everything they do is a commentary on the weirdness of our culture.
- dbxz, on 03/21/2008, -0/+7i dont know... but it will sort them ;)
- SteveIsTheDude, on 03/21/2008, -0/+7You must be a poser, 'cause there ain't no dash in 8088. You just got SERVED!

- Wilson, on 03/21/2008, -0/+6Doo doo doo doo!
- sexybobo, on 03/21/2008, -0/+6I had no idea the clip couldn't be seen by people out side the US and i doubt the submitter new it either. If any one is to blame it would be cartoon netwrok for having stupid rules like that.
- ophello, on 03/21/2008, -2/+7***** off
- BigLLamasHouse, on 03/21/2008, -3/+8u know wayyy too much about midi's

- 3vno, on 03/21/2008, -0/+4mpc 2000 FTW!!!!
- Afrotronics, on 03/21/2008, -0/+4I got my first sound blaster card when I was 10 years old on Christmas Day. Sound Blaster 16 ISA.
SET BLASTER A:220 D:1 I:5
I hated setting the dang parameters up in autoexec.bat. Some times I'd have to set I to 7. Don't even get me started on Sound Blaster 16 with its damn H: parameter. The dang high interrupt (or DMA was it? it's been 11 years) was a make or break in whether or not you got sound effects in certain games like Jill of the Jungle. Then you had to set your MIDI port up (I think it was 330). If you got all of the parameters right you got PURE mf'in GOLD. I miss the good old days of Adlib Synthesis. The sucky part was if you added new hardware you would get DMA or IRQ conflicts. If it wasn't for my Sound Blaster I probably would have never had an interest in computer science. Thank you Interrupt Request and Direct Memory Access conflicts. - HastyBoom, on 03/21/2008, -1/+5lol
- rmjb, on 03/21/2008, -6/+10MIDIs are on the way out. I'll wait for the MOD file organiser! Real voices in the files!
- CitizenSweeps, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3That's some Quall-ity humor.
- irvin666, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3The guy needs to install the yamaha synthesizer driver. which instruments sound like instruments. Yamaha is much superior than what you hear from microsoft's ***** roland driver.
but I still love the FM synthesis, espicially Wolfenstein 3D music levels.
If you want to know what FM sounds like, like the above commenter said, pop a genesis game. That's what it is. As for Super Nintendo, It uses the Sony sampling chip. Which a tuba will sound like a tuba.
Or if you really want to experiment, listen to a Final Fantasy 7 midi file, then compare it to a FM synthesis, Yamaha Sy-50, and the ***** Roland driver. Yamaha is by far the best and superior product.
Ok, enough of my babbling, and no, I do not work for Yamaha. - rmjb, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3Thanks
- romistrub, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3I thought that "outside the US" video was actually kinda cute.
- irvin666, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3Super Nintendo uses the sony sound chip. So what you hear sound like actual instruments, like the yamaha synthesizer for windows.
- LanEvo, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3got a mod organizer?
- samssf, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3My Commodore 64 feels left out :'(
- Step1Mark, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3jerk... wasn't even a link. did i just rick roll my self because i copied and pasted the link?
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3Yeah, it's not like these sites have big bold " THIS LINK WILL NOT WORK FOR PEOPLE IN OTHER COUNTRIES" written somewhere. The only way to tell is trial and error, and I am sure the submitter is just as annoyed that Cartoon Network ***** up his submit. Incidentally it answers the question I had the minute the page loaded, which was why I had been on Digg for all this time and never seen Adult Swim linked to. Now I know.
- inactive, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3I only had the regular Sound Blaster, but it sure made playing Wing Commander much more enjoyable than that damn pc speaker
- acroyear2, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3Wing Commander!!
- KillerLettuce, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3my thoughts exactly
