- canewediggit, on 10/13/2007, -13/+954and we all got a nice reality check that even in the colbert audience, barely anybody got the joke :-(
- k1down, on 10/20/2007, -6/+678Yeah, it didn't come across as much of a shoutout last night when I was watching...
Seemed more like he was calling us all pussies, and rightfully so.
MARCH ON WASHINGTON! ->click here - Premonition, on 10/17/2007, -27/+646This wasn't a shout out, it was him calling us out. He is calling this generation of youths in America pussies because they're too scared to do anything about the problems of their own country. At this point it is YOU that is guilty, the American population, for not taking action against an abusive government.
No longer can you fall back on "yeah well I never voted for them" logic. It was YOU in the beginning that was not educated enough to force the right answers to be asked to avoid these problems and now its YOUR fault for not taking any action when the reality of the situation is slapping you in the face on a daily basis. What do we get out of blogging about these problems? So in the end we can say "I told you so"? I guess when your country is in ruins you can be the only person on the block with a smile on their face because at least you knew it was going to happen ahead of time!
It seems like you guys are just sitting around waiting for entertainers to tell you what to do. How long are you going to blog "our country is already passed the tipping point" BEFORE YOU ***** DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?
/end rant - kevinrose, on 11/04/2007, -13/+460Hey, for me it's an honor just to be mentioned on the show. Obviously their staff uses the site for content - very cool.
- Godlike, on 10/13/2007, -9/+258Biggest threat to America: Americans.
- killerofkiller, on 10/20/2007, -6/+203Kevin, you need to go on the Colbert report... that would be amazing
- danielrh9, on 10/10/2007, -4/+160Wow. Stephen is dead on here. We really are a bunch of pussies.
- SilentJay74, on 10/10/2007, -8/+158Even though I made a joke about our fellow Digger Premonition he has a very valid point. IT IS OUR OWN FAULT! WTF have we done besides bitch about it?
- rach, on 10/10/2007, -4/+139+digg!
...wait a second. - AndrewMHagan, on 10/10/2007, -8/+142I almost made a comment to the affect of "just because you troll digg and write comments doesn't actually mean they are honoring you by mentioning the site." ...
Then I realized who posted the comment, and promptly felt like ass. I'll stop talking now. - Hetman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+135I saw this last night. I was waiting for it to be posted. It is kind of funny because he is really just making fun of everyone on digg. I didnt even realize how bored those kids looked as the other kid was getting tasered. That is priceless.
- Jaynix, on 10/20/2007, -3/+83I think Colbert's point was that people are writing blogs and submitting articles to Digg, when they could be out protesting or doing something much more influential. I don't really get how that would be an honor to you. Not that Digg isn't great, but the context he used it in, wasn't exactly flattering.
- RadicalEdward, on 10/10/2007, -12/+91So basically you just proved his point, instead of getting a group of peers organized to actually do anything, you sat there and bitched about other people not doing anything. On digg no less, where your not exactly going to be inspiring the vast digg audience.
- DjOverEZ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+77Even though Colbert's rant was partially a joke, it made a lot of sense and really hit home for me. Anybody else feel this way?
- drmobutu, on 11/12/2007, -4/+78Big Deal...a couple of months ago, Colbert gave me a PERSONAL shout-out...I won't be sending you any more emails from Nigeria, Mr. Colbert, I promise.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ubugme Mobutu - zombiedepot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+71Criticize each other's grammar and spelling, most importantly repeat stupid jokes involving blenders, cats, and Soviet Russia.
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -7/+76i didn't even notice it was "digg" instead of "dig" at the time. i was on my laptop at the time (yes digg) and didn't look up since i didn't hear anyone laugh.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+65That clip pissed me AND my imaginary girlfriend off.
- wisam, on 10/10/2007, -2/+62Are you aware that "digg" is not an English word. The words "dig" and "digging" are.
- jayunsplanet, on 10/10/2007, -1/+60Did Colbert say that Digg was just like masturbation?
- pugofwar, on 10/17/2007, -3/+60That would be epic
- warcrackhead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+58It was both flattering and an indictment at the same time. He basically was saying: Diggers, you know what to do. WHY AREN'T YOU DOING IT? Time to stand up and make a difference, or this country will keep heading in the same direction. Is that what we want?
- goblindegook, on 10/10/2007, -2/+42While what you say about Colbert the character is true, you misread him here. He's definitely criticizing Digg, blogs, and the internet in general for helping foster this culture of terminal apathy we seem to live in. But he is doing it ironically, and so he praises it much like a conservative pundit would, since apathy gives politicians carte blanche to abuse the people.

http://www.ifilm.com/episode/18037?startsWith=2896 ... - ontain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+32he's totally right. for all the good that the internet gives us. it will never change the world unless we act in the real world. that's something this myspace generation doesn't understand or care about. heck i'm just a little older than that generation and I'm pretty lazy when it comes to civil action as well.
- thenativeraver, on 10/10/2007, -1/+32Go lay down, it's past your nap time.
- BarbaraKolbe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30enjoyed how the audience did not get the joke at all.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26Those damn funions.
- BESTenemy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+27Here on Digg united we sit.
- aydoubleyou, on 10/10/2007, -0/+25"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Viacom International Inc."
***** you Viacom. - KidVicious, on 10/10/2007, -2/+25Well we'll all be waiting to see what happens at 5 o'clock.
- theone3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+25Heh. Do you seriously think they'd have a leg to stand on? Can you imagine the counterclaim?
- omnithought, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24"Punching the Clock" FTW.
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24I feel like taking to the streets in protest... but I'd feel stupid doing it alone...
- nublet, on 10/10/2007, -7/+29mirror: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Z07xZ2bZK4
- RadicalEdward, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25Isn't that what your doing right now?
- dunderballer, on 11/12/2007, -3/+25POSER! WE DONT HAVE LOWERCASE LETTERS IN NIGERIA! YOU ARE NOT DR MOBUTU
- cozmicone37, on 10/10/2007, -11/+33Did anyone else notice the lack of applause or laughter about the digg reference? I would guess that the majority of the studio audience that night have never heard of digg.
- rossnyc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21Good work Sherlock.
- jayadelson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20For me, this is a major moment... I'm such a huge fan of his... Obviously he's aware of the community and how passionate we are, jokes aside.
- Netrilix, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21Easy way to implement it that doesn't affect the page: give positive diggs as a mouseover for the up finger, and negative diggs as a mouseover for the down finger.
- modifiedbears, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19“In a Democracy, people get the kind of government they deserve.”
Winston Churchill - mt066, on 10/20/2007, -3/+22I'm tired of everyone calling themselves pussies. Have some self confidence, for chrissakes. Every generation scoffs at the generation after them. When Baby Boomers were our age, their parents were doing it to. It doesn't mean anything.
Info on protests of the Iraq War: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protests_against_the_ ...
Also, the largest anti war rally in the history of the world. When did that happen? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_15%2C_2003_a ... - BESTenemy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19 That is joiner mentality, my friend. We don't have a cause. We don't feel strongly about anything. We're spoiled. We don't know the meaning of true discomfort. We've got too much to loose and too much to sacrifice. We're lazy. Wealth does it to people. Wealth does it to countries. They get to the point where citizens can't see further than their noses. They can be told something, feel passionate about it, without ever finding out for themselves whether the claim is true or not. Getting all the information from a box hooked up to a cable. Used to be a TV. Now it's a computer. More interactive non-reality. Before you couldn't get kids to stay indoors. They wanted to play outside. Now you can't kick them out of the house with a stick. They spend too much time conducting mental masturbation, never taking any kind of action. Never really caring.
No dedication will ever come out of a 5-second attention span, and that seems to be the physical limit of the current generation. - awesomeface, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Or, the nerds love him because of he rips on people who deserve it.
- JlmAWP, on 10/10/2007, -19/+37@ Premonition:
You can preach all of that you want, but if you live here in America, it doesn't matter what you say or where you say it anymore. If you are saying something that the media/government doesn't want the public to hear, you are muted/avoided/ignored. As great of a concept as is to be able to blame the American people, this is FAR from solely our fault.
The internet/Digg are the people you should not be yelling at. At least we are informed. At least we don't believe all of the ***** that is shoveled to us on Fox. We can't stop the media (and I mean every news channel) from prioritizing Paris Hilton and OJ Simpson "circus events" over the ever-present disappearing of individual rights and true free speech.
We're not waiting for entertainers to tell us what to do. We know what to do. We're waiting for them to give us a fighting chance via airtime and influence, since we don't get that anymore. - KidVicious, on 10/10/2007, -6/+23Wow, making a rant on Digg about people who rant on Digg. I'm willing to be you're sitting in a glass house while throwing those stones. Have you done anything to improve society and end injustice, or are you just a hypocrite?
- bajesus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18Mainly that a large section of Digg watched Colbert last night
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21He's not your slave. He's got a right to be on his own site if he wants to.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17I can't believe what a bunch of nerds we are. We're looking up "riot" in the dictionary.

What is Digg?
