- MrDoug, on 11/17/2009, -11/+403Brilliant...
fake as hell, but brilliant. - dopelogic, on 11/17/2009, -9/+231Completely fake. I am a store manager with cockbuster and this isn't even our letterhead. A customer would never receive a personal letter from the store manager regarding non-returned movies. That would be all we did all day, composing letter after letter after letter. All collection forms are automated by the system, printed on generic postcards then mailed from a national distribution center. If a fee isn't paid after 90 days its sold to a collection agency. End of story.
- ThinkIcouldburn, on 11/17/2009, -19/+219Fake.
As a past employee I know for a fact that the store will charge your credit card for the full price of the DVDs after two weeks of not being returned. Thus making angry people storm into the store yelling about being sold the movies that some other jackass at the store forgot to check back in. - fxu1989, on 11/17/2009, -1/+120http://www.27bslash6.com/overdue.html
- drek, on 11/17/2009, -1/+105I don't have a credit card. I've never had a credit card. I've had a Blockbuster card for at least 10 years.
- Sublimin4L, on 11/17/2009, -0/+96You are from Jersey. The .au email address would suggest an Australian Blockbuster. Another country. Perhaps they have different policies in other countries. Just a thought.
- reelskamachine, on 11/17/2009, -3/+94this is hilarious. Its almost as good as the spider e-mail one. Someone should find that
- ravedigger, on 11/16/2009, -5/+88You win!
- Frostek, on 11/17/2009, -0/+77They probably wanted to rent them next.
- elliotys, on 11/17/2009, -24/+93Moderately amusing, but David needs to get over himself. He's not that witty.
- MikeyMoose, on 11/17/2009, -2/+69Who invited "Mr. No Fun Guy"?
- binaryloop, on 11/17/2009, -2/+61Back in the late 80's a friend of mine had a few Blockbuster movies that were over a month late. I was visiting one Friday night and there was loud knock at the door. Two cops were standing there and asked about the stolen movies. My friend promptly handed over the movies and they left. (Yes, they were real cops. They had badges and guns and were looking pretty pissed off.)
It was bizarre. I've never seen cops doing "movie enforcement" before or since then. - Solkre, on 11/17/2009, -1/+58Not all credit cards are active.
- tnoy, on 11/17/2009, -2/+55Why are people surprised by this? Often its the only rental place in their area.
Netflix is the best alternative for most, but I know a lot of people that like to wander through the isles when they have no idea what they want to watch that night. - Ne007, on 11/17/2009, -1/+46This has to be a fake.
Blockbuster is never that cool. - snootywaiter, on 11/17/2009, -1/+43Funny. I chuckled a bit throughout reading this.
However, and not to sound like a dick here, but having worked at a video store for the past 2 and a half years, I can tell you that these people are *****. Don't be a dick and give me ***** about a late fee because you forgot to return it on time, *****.
I'm quitting that goddamn job. I hate it. - calicheese23, on 11/17/2009, -0/+41***** Blockbuster.
I returned Far Cry 2 on its due date and then about a week later I was charged for it. It automatically charged me $60 to my debit card, causing me overdraft fees. I went into the store and they told me they had found the game but they couldn't stop the charge because they don't charge the card at the store location. So I had to take the charge and the overdraft fees for more than a week while I went to work and school with no money. It took blockbuster a week to reverse the charge and credit my account. After they did that I got my fees reversed by my bank. So it all worked out in the end but they screwed me over for 2 weeks pretty much.
Netflix FTW - ozroy, on 11/17/2009, -0/+37This is from a guy named David Thorne, an Australian man who also tried to pay a bill with a drawing of a 7 legged spider.
He claims nothing on his site is fake as it would be boring otherwise.
Here is an interview with him
http://www.news.com.au/technology/story/0,28348,24 ... - tdogg241, on 11/17/2009, -8/+44I started typing this out before I read the whole thing, which in itself turned out to be pretty funny, but I plan to finish my thought anyway....
As a former Blockbuster employee, I have to say that there's no way you returned 4 movies at the same time, none of which were checked in at the same time. So you are either:
A. lying.
B. someone who returns movies to a different store and thinks that means they'll be checked in without any problems.
I could see how B can happen. We live in an age driven by computers. But Blockbuster is using software that is entirely archaic. At least, they still were as of 6 years ago when I quit working there and they had long-since been losing money on a year-over-year basis prior to that. So the idea that they upgraded all stores' computers and/or software is ludicrous at best.
However, in the years that I worked there (and local video stores as well), 90% of the ***** I dealt with fell under A. We could see when your movies were scanned. If there were a bunch of erratic timestamps, sure, there was probably a mistake made. But if you returned Pluto Nash on 8/12 at 12:10pm and three other movies on 8/25 at 2:15pm (+/- a few minutes), you were a ***** liar and you knew it, but that ***** wouldn't stop you from arguing with me until you were red in the face.
Anyway, let the record stand, you know whether or not your movies were late. Don't argue about it if you know they were, because it makes it that much more ubelieveable when other people claim they weren't. I'm no defender of Blockbuster, but I'm even less of a defender of ***** customers. - shoff88, on 11/17/2009, -2/+35http://www.27bslash6.com/overdue.html
By far his best work - drnilescrane, on 11/17/2009, -0/+33Looking closely at the letterhead, it's Blockbuster Australia. Different letterhead design, different policies - The stores operate on a franchise model.
- jpt62089, on 11/17/2009, -0/+31Oh my word!
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=665808 - mikejafo, on 11/17/2009, -1/+29Aight, I put on my robe and wizard hat
- smemily, on 11/17/2009, -0/+26That, and the writer is in Australia where there isn't any Netflix that I know of.
- i23Photography, on 11/17/2009, -2/+26Oh my god! Call 911!
- IllBeBack, on 11/17/2009, -1/+22That beeping refrigerator sounds pretty cool. I want one.
- Solkre, on 11/17/2009, -1/+22Collections doesn't work that way. They're selling the debt to someone else. They get most of their money, you get harassed, bad credit, and pay much much more.
- davidwmfc, on 11/17/2009, -8/+25I think he's a douche. Why can't he just return the damn DVDs
- FormerBabby, on 11/17/2009, -0/+17***** the RIAA?
- drex8, on 11/17/2009, -2/+19"Excuse me, is your refrigerator running? Because if it is, it probably runs like you - very homosexually."
- Peter in Family Guy, Loaded Weapons
Somehow your comment reminded me of this scene. - absolutionist, on 11/17/2009, -1/+18While I did laugh, this guy was being a complete dick to someone who was just trying to do her job. If you're going to be a selfish ***** and keep movies that other people want to rent, you should be prepared to pay a fine.
- Bakuryu, on 11/17/2009, -2/+17I currently work at blockbuster and this ***** still goes on its, true in our case for our store 90% the mistake is on the customer and when its not, we eat it like we should, even when its not our fault we still take the loss and we shouldn't. Just like you i'm not defending blockbuster either they do make stupid decisions, but so do all companys. What annoys me more is people who argue with stupid logic and get away with it thus training these morons that arguing with people will get you somewhere.
- valetudomexican, on 11/17/2009, -3/+17"In a Utopian future society she would have been hunted down and killed at thirty"
- opticwind, on 11/17/2009, -0/+14No, I think it'd be funny if it was real.
- Zippo, on 11/17/2009, -0/+14A LOT of people still use Blockbuster up in Canada... we don't have Netflix. My roommate's an assoc. manager at one. People still want to rent movies and the place is still super busy on weekends, holidays, and the day before a snowstorm.
Works great for us, as he gets 10 free rentals a week and gets to rent movies as soon as they're delivered to the store - usually a week before they hit the shelves. - drex8, on 11/17/2009, -2/+14Redbox FTW!
- Corr0sive, on 11/17/2009, -2/+14I used to work for a Blockbuster. When i worked there we were the worst store in my state. That was my first job, they had a fat stack of empty DVD cases with no DVDs. They lost alot of money cause of that store from what i heard...
- Synchro, on 11/17/2009, -2/+14Then you need to read more often.
Its funny, but not that funny. - el_jefe, on 11/17/2009, -0/+12I wonder why they had to close...
- kubedawg, on 11/17/2009, -0/+12Gah, now I have to read that whole letter again and pretend they both use an aussie accent...
- gotbannedagain, on 11/17/2009, -0/+12dugg for cockbuster
- dopelogic, on 11/17/2009, -1/+13"The customer is always right" mentality is single handedly destroying any sense of responsibility or respect we have for each other. People know that if they argue enough they can get out of that 2.00 late fee that they rightfully deserve. Cheap asses!
- Jhonka, on 11/17/2009, -1/+12libel != liable
Both legal terms so you should learn the difference.. - opticwind, on 11/17/2009, -6/+16To be honest I've seen a lot better emails like these. The person just sortof came off as a jackass, not clever.
- ozroy, on 11/17/2009, -5/+15Just curious. Do you work for Blockbuster in Australia? Because that is where this is from and may explain the different letterhead.
- penguinofspades, on 11/17/2009, -3/+13they called collections on me even after i found the movie and returned it. $20 in late fees, im hoping it cost them more 2 collect then they will ever make.
- ldkronos, on 11/17/2009, -0/+9You think it's ridiculous that someone would want to collect $500 that they are owed? Wow. just wow.
- tdogg241, on 11/17/2009, -3/+12I'm not taking my previous ***** job "too seriously." Like I said, I'm no defender of Blockbuster. They ***** me out of *thousands* of dollars in tuition reimbursement on a technicality. I will never give them a single dime of my money until they start holding bankruptcy blowout sales.
I just have zero tolerance for this ***** mantra that "the customer is always right." That is what has singlehandedly lead to the downfall in the quality of customer service in this country. - haikuFU, on 11/17/2009, -3/+12So are you one of the ***** that sent my late fees off to collection after just 3 weeks? It wasn't 90 days, it was 3 ***** weeks.
