- adidos, on 10/12/2007, -13/+70Bury me
- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -21/+74I think it was awesome. Can't wait for the second edit with more reactions. Nothing like pissing off people and taping their responses :D
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+53I give Sony props for construction, that dude had to spend serious energy to get that thing to bust open. It may overheat easily, but damn at least I know it won't break easily if I drop it.
- Gdoubleod, on 10/12/2007, -11/+44Okay it was mildly funny but stupidly retarded on many more levels.
1. Shameless way of advertising their website
2. The guy swinging the hammer was a complete pussy if you are going to break something destroy it completely.
3. Waste of money
4. Waste of resources that went into making the console. Are they going to recycle all the components and dispose of the material properly?
5. Doing something for the sole purpose to piss people off is lame - IheartZombies, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Kind of anti-climactic.
- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26but will it blend?
- molsen311, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33so tired of this gimmick
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28Man those guys are so cool. Like its such an original idea props to them i have never heard/seen anything of this nature in my entire life very original!!!! Plus thats all the damage they could do with a sledge hammer? Quality machine :)
- monkeymad2, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22The money is donated...
- pronto, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18@DanOfDystopia,
That also happened for the smash my 360 : - thtroyer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15He swung that sledge hammer like a girl. Or at the least, a city boy.
- culbeda, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21"So people donated money to buy a PS3 - just to smash it, when instead they could have actually raised that $600 for a good cause."
A) This IS a good cause, it's just not a charitable one.
B) $600 is peanuts
C) I doubt that the $2-20 donations will have any serious impact on the sums they donate to charitable causes.
D) Put on your big girl panties and deal with it! - doczein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15reminds me of the buddhist monks that create an extremely intricate portrait out of sand particles... only to destroy it after they finish what would be considered a masterpiece.
so i guess the moral of the story is: value is not in the material. - Fetttson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Will it blend? PS3!
- adidos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13It's "wasting" more than $600 (resale value on eBay). More like "what a waste of $3000".
- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16These guys have too much money and WAY too much free time.
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Oh come on! If their message is anti consumerism, then this is about the most hypocritical way they could possible go about getting their point across.
- cakestick, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20The contrast between the greed of a product launch, and the audacity of smashing it upon receipt, is what we call art.
- Nihilanth41, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12very nice. did anybody else notice how durable the ps3 seems to be? they hit it hard a couple of times and it barely seemed to affect it.
- Lunchbox18, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12That was just retarded, although I think the craze to get a ps3 is rediculous, buying a ps3 just to smash it is stupid
- culbeda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I don't know about him, but it made MY nipples hard...
- waterdrop, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Some guy donated $13.37. All the donations from people are listed on the website:
www.smashmyps3.com - TheDrunkMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11http://www.smashmyipod.com/ (The original)
http://www.smashmyxbox.com/
http://www.smashmyps3.com/
http://www.smashmywii.com/ - turgiddahlia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9That's pretty retarded. I don't care much for the PS3 and will certainly never be buying one, but that's like, what, $500 worth of console he just destroyed on the sidewalk? In front of a couple dozen people who in reality probably don't care? So he could hock his web site and wear a stupid hat? Shows just how stupid this self-entitled present generation is, expecting everything to be laid out before them so they can treat it as they please, with no concept of value or the environment (all those petroleum byproducts and other chemicals that are now going straight to landfill). Sure the PS3 is just a mass-produced piece of ***** like any other console but I think he would have shown himself to be a better man by donating that thing to the local children's hospital - call up the local paper and tell them to meet him there. Or give it to somebody in a ***** wheelchair or something. I'm not impressed by this in the slightest, and next thing this guy will be whining about how hard it is to get an apartment in New York and why can't I get a job for Google? Buddy, it's because you're a ***** wanker.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8we're bein' GAMED oh noes
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6so the gasoline could slowly pour out of the bullet hole?
- bruinebeer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Man, i wanted to write the same thing , what a bunch of losers. If that is their definition of fun & art, they better start growing up.
What a shame, lame asses
I feel ashamed that this article gets dugg by so many people, makes me wanna quit digg.com all together. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9replytofirsttopiclookitmeimcool
Been gaming almost all my life (well since I could hold a controller) and I love games - but I'll never understand this ***** about console wars, nor will I ever. I have concluded that console bashers/fanboys cannot call themselves gamers. Destroying VGs at all, in any manner has eliminated you from the gaming genepool, die soon.
and yes, I'm buying a Wii, but if anyone wants to ship me a ps3, I got nothing against it. - dcadorniga, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8You think Best Buy or Sony really give a *****? No! They both got your money and laughed all the way to the bank. On top of that, you spent all that time in line. Total morons! Why don't you just donate that money to charity and be a productive member of society.
- waterdrop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It is built pretty solid. If you ever watched the video of the PS3 being disassembled (its been posted on Digg many times) by some guys, you'll notice how packed tight the components inside are. In general I have found most consoles to be quite durable. My PS2 has fell off my shelf 4 feet off the ground almost ten times and still works fine after 5 or so years. Heck my first gen PS1 still works. My bros Gamecube is always getting pulled off the shelf and that still works as well. 360 is getting ran over and still working. You do have to credit all three console makers for building their consoles rock solid.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14I bet you jacked off to it, right?
- irieKEN, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14I can't think of anything more American than what I just saw:)
--The wasting of resources for amusement and shock value. - MomentDEFINED, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11What a complete waste of time for everyone involved, including my own watching this crap video.
- Igor1080, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think that they are geniouses, because they do this for what $600, and then they put it on metacafe, and the whole world looks at it, and they make like a good 20 grand from publishers payoff from Metacafe. Its somewhat complex to think of, but they sit back and make money while all the Ebayers bust their ass.
- drgruney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@carve
So what? Why does it matter if that guy waited and didn't get to buy one? He should have gotten there earlier... waited 20 hours perhaps. I don't feel any sympathy for the guy who waited because that's the way the world works. If someone wants to wait in line to smash his PS3 then that's fine. - adidos, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13I posted a direct link to youtube seconds after someone else did...so I edited my comment to "bury me"...I guess that makes me a "fag". Sorry!
- LordofChaosIori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5In an experiment that X-play made of how durable last-gen's consoles were, the GameCube was the one that took the most punishment while still being able to function properly.
- tehpoutine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5GMorgan
Actually, Sony loses money on each console sale, they make money off the games. So not only did they incur a loss by buying the machine, they furthered the damage by making it so no games will be bought for that particular console. I'd say that's pretty anti-consumerism. Although I'd best describe this event as 'Attention whoring'. - Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Sell it on eBay for $1,000 clearly stating that it's smashed into 1000 pieces.
No doubt some douchebag will still buy it. - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Anti-consumerism would be like sticking with old technology rather than whoring out for new stuff then destroying it. If this is anti-consumer then they are confused. Sony still get their money.
- ionbattle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The PS3 actually seems really sturdy after seeing that.
- ondre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That was in Toronto at the Best Buy at Yonge/Dundas?
Does anyone know anyone who knows anyone who saw that? - DenTPuzz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't really care about the PS3, I don't own a console and I don't really plan to, but buying anything brand new and just smashing it for amusement value is pretty dumb. I guess they were going for shock value.
- evilelf2407, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i love how everyone in line is kinda just laughing. they don't really care
- ondre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My apologies, it was in Yonge-Dundas Square where the BestBuy is very very close by.
- rmw132, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This whole "smash my whatever" joke is SO OLD and OVERDONE
- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9"There is some guy who'd been waiting in line all night for that thing, and now he won't get it because this one was smashed right in front of him."
Sony's making more PS3s. That "guy" will get one. -
