- joshmcconaha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+48This is where I wish Digg had an edit feature. I screwed up...it's not from the 80's. The URL makes that sort of obvious... http://www.donsguns.com/
but damn if it doesn't look like it's from the 80s - randersontt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37...i wouldn't feel very comfortable turning my back on Don...

A recent study showed that most people who mention recent studies should provide links to them. - CraigJ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Too weird. My dad bought me my first gun there - a .22 rifle. He also bought his SW .357 there. We would buy ammo there on the way to the range. Don was a local character and had a reputation for being somewhat eccentric... Cool store though. They had a huge block of some sort of clear plastic that had been shot with different caliber bullets.

2. http://digg.com/tech_news/The_100_oldest_com_Domains_currently_registered_2 - bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Yes every one was freaking out because he rents guns. But it really isn't that weird to let people rent guns to shoot at a range a lot of people like to shoot guns but a lot of wives don't want guns in the house perfect solution go down to the range with your buddies rent a gun and buy some ammo and shoot till your heart is content. then give guns back and un used ammo and go home to the wife.
Also this was a superbowl commercial this year. one of the local ones that channels get to sell not a national one like the bud wiser ads or godady. lots of talk about it earlyer - parent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13requirements to rent a gun

"These are the only requirements to rent guns to shoot on our indoor range:" - popltree2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12OMG! Colonel Sanders has lost it!
- EvilFerret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"I don't want to make any money folks" ... Seriously, who thought up that line? Did they think people would say "OMFG This guy doesn't want my money, let's go over there and give him money!"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
also, he is renting for use in their indoor shooting range. - themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The colonel Sanders of guns
- zephc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8When I was young, my dad and I used to go to a gun store just south of the Silicon Valley (Markley's in Scotts Valley, for the curious). They had a huge stuffed polar bear in there which is endlessly fascinating when you're 8. And of course they had a stuffed 'jackalope' (no gun store is complete without one!)
- adashiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The ad may not be 20 years old, but that guy has been making commercials like this one for at least that long. His better known slogan is "I don't want to make any money, folks. I just love to *sell* guns.", always with that half-crazy laugh. He's based out of Indianapolis.
- treyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@generaleoff
Remember, it's always less somewhere else when they don't have it.
DON'S HAS IT!
(A quote from the website) - cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9@prelude - That's ***** and you know it. I'm from an hour north of Indy. I've been there. It ain't that kind of store. They have a pretty good selection, but WAAAAAY to overpriced.

Great Idea Dad !!! - slhilbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Going to college in Central Indiana I was blessed with getting to see this commercial all the time during Jay Leno. Years 1998-2002. A few years ago NPR interviewed the guy in the commercial about the Brady Bill elapsing. And since I care here is the link to the interview http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=3905028
I couldn't believe it was the same guy. - FlashingLights, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Oh god, as soon as he said "I don't want to make any money folks...I just love renting guns", things just turned creepy.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2please read the first comment.
- BleedingHeadKen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's a great laugh, but it's not maniacal. It's more of a deranged chuckle.
- misconfig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm born and raised here in Indiana, Don's Gun's has been around since I was born, Don has countless commercials just like it, he's know for his signature hand-gun gesture with the maniac laugh.
- sherlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He still does commercials but not for his store which I think went out of business. He's making cameos in other local commercials now doing his trademark finger gun and flashing of the big white teeth.
"I don't want to make any money folks...I just love to sell mattresses. heh heh heh." - cvrefugee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Se rentan armas"
I guess they're expanding their clientèle. - cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's it right there. I remember those commercials along with the Bob Rohrman commercials with the Tax Man. Gotta love it.
- Duke218, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I live about an hour west of Indy. I remember coming home after elementary school and watching cartoons. And seeing these commercials during Woody Woodpecker. This is a newer add. The ones from the 80's were real bad. Almost as bad as Sammy Terry.
- diggdong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The gun range/shop were I have a membership has pink colored bathrooms ...guess why? Not that I think renting guns for in-use purposes are wrong - I just go to the range in the morning time.
- saintdesy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From the dude's website:
"Yes! Machine Guns & Silencers are legal and the following are in stock. Don's has been class 3 for 35 years. The only difference in you buying a Machine Gun or Silencer is:
1. If you qualify for a Pistol and you are a U.S. Citizen, you qualify for a Machine Gun or Silencer."
Haven't machine guns been banned since the 30's?! And I thought silencers were always a no-no! - VVCephei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg for the laugh in the end
- Lilbrittle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1haha that laugh will getcha just look at him
- jpope, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Big Don's got a great record: http://www.wthr.com/Global/story.asp?S=4942752
- DrJackson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@prelude
If i recall correctly, many guns sold from his store were used in murders, but only because they were bought and resold illegally in northern Indiana and the Chicago area. This is not a problem exclusively with Dons guns, but with many Indiana gun stores. - ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I wish it were from the 80's. That was the only comforting thing I found about it. "at least it's from 20 years ago. wouldn't happen these days" I thought...then i read your comment.
- generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0He doesn't mean you can rent the gun and take it off site people. He means rent it to fire it on his firing range. Nearly all gun shops with an on site firing range have a gun rental service.
- mikearney, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0creepiest...laugh...ever
- bobchicken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It only got really scary when he started laughing maniacally.
- manti5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"I hear there's robbers in the area tonight, better rent a gun"
- gentlewhisper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2OK... that laugh at the end... what is that?
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -17/+15I didnt know there were already websites in the 80's..
